Review Summary

Reviews of La Louisiane describe a lively, welcoming spot where bold Cajun flavors like gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp, crab cakes and hush puppies frequently delight, though a few visits note overcooked chicken, a heavy tomato base in seafood jambalaya, and occasional inconsistency in quality. Starters such as spinach and artichoke dip and the bread pudding and pecan pie get praise alongside menu items that diners want to try again. The service is repeatedly praised as excellent and attentive, with friendly staff, an engaging atmosphere, and a bar vibe that many find appealing. Ambiance and music contribute to a distinctly New Orleans feel, with many calling it a favorite place to return to; the decor and overall mood are often highlighted as a highlight. Some guests feel the menu changes or timing affect the experience, citing longer waits or dishes that fall short of previous standards, yet others reiterate that certain dishes and sauces remain outstanding. Overall La Louisiane is viewed as a place with signature dishes and a strong sense of place that keeps many patrons coming back, despite the occasional hiccup.

Incredible food & great service. We had the spinach & artichoke dip, crab cakes, & coconut shrimp to start, & then the seafood jambalaya & chicken paneed. Every dish was 10/10.

we discover this restaurent in the 90s my wife & I used to go a few times a year it was always amazing but the last few times we had dinner there we where not impress with the foods at all,we keep coming back because it was so amazing back then but now the menu change, the blacken chicken was over cook & dry,the shrimps in my wife pasta was also over cook, the crab cakes are ok,the hushpuppy are very good i think its because of the dipping sauce that amazing,i would say the last 3 times we visited we where not happy with the food,i think we are done for good this time.

Hush puppies & crab cakes were over cooked in old oil. We had Blackened Chicken & it was not spicy enough & not blacked enough. Usually Cajun blacked protein have a black spicy crisp side. The Cajun limonade was very good so was the double chocolate pecan pie

We walked in without a reservation & were able to get a table on the patio. Very friendly service. For drinks, we had the hurricane, Cajun lemonade, & the sangria. They were all delicious, & the lemonade was very zesty. Our apps were the crab cakes & the cornbread. The crab cakes were delicious (make sure to squeeze the lemon onto them it makes them even better) though maybe ask for extra sauce on the side if you like a lot of sauce. The cornbread was delightful, perfect sweetness & wonderful texture & it was grilled which added an amazing flavour. For mains we got the blackened chicken & the Voodoo pasta. The chicken was juicy & the spices were delicious, but the excellent garlic mash nearly stole the show. My favourite dish was the Voodoo pasta. It was spicy & creamy, & the sausage was delicious. I could eat that everyday & be very happy. Finally we ended with the bananas Foster & it was AMAZING. The only thing is if you like a lot of ice cream with your dessert, maybe ask for an extra scoop.

Looking for comfort food & lively place? Check out the folks at La Louisiane! YUM. YUM. YUM!!! So happy I was introduced me to this fantastic restaurant!! I recommend getting there early (5:30pm) because it gets packed later. Single stall washrooms with no labels is the most euphoric experience ever - BRAVO 👏 Hip playlist that had me pulling out Shazam every tune 🎵 Had me singing & dancing in my seat 🕺 corn bread was grilled SO good I've never had it like that before! Fried chicken, chef vegetables, Dino ribs & banana foster w/ Lemonade that had a cellulose straw 🤯 I even tried to eat the straw 😂 Everything was SO good I can't wait to go back! Other dishes I wanted to try like the mussels & fries, blackened fish, crab cakes looked good as I watched other people get their food! They do have gluten free pasta & jambalaya I wish I could have sat there & feasted all day 😊 The mural on the wall was lovely as well. I dig the vibe of this rad place 🤙🏻Service was attentive & everyone was so friendly & welcoming. I felt like I was hanging out with friends & was super at ease 🫶🏻

Hadn’t been here in while (probably just before COVID lockdowns) had always enjoyed previously so decided to give a try. To sum it up average to disappointing. They seem to have lost their mojo. We were 2 couples, we all had crab cakes for app I had the famous fried chicken, 2 people had the shrimp & 1 had the firecracker shrimp (nice of them to make it, it’s no longer on the menu) & we finished with bread pudding. We all ate talked & did the normal supper stuff. Thanked the staff , paid & left the restaurant. As we are walking down Sherbrooke street the person who always raves about La Louisiane says, how did you like your meal? She starts off with I was disappointed, the group all agree. Not sure what it is exactly, but something was lacking in terms of freshness & flavour. Unlike prior visits, everything was average at best. Even the bread pudding which is usually a crowd pleaser was ok to bad (way too much chocolate drizzle). Nothing to complain about on service side. I don’t think it was just us, it was a Saturday night & the place was not packed. It’s too bad, because this place used to be really good. Here is to hoping they get their mojo back.

I was having a terrible day & the staff here took care of me so well! I had the crab cakes, the paneed chicken & some kind of awesome chocolate pecan thing for dessert. The food was phenomenal & the people that work here went above & beyond, truly. Vibrant atmosphere, cozy comfort food done fancy. Highly, highly recommend for any occasion or just because :)

My wife & I came to this restaurant expecting something different. We both love Louisiana creole style food & figure this would be the place that would best represent. There's not many restaurants of its kind in the greater Montreal area so we gave it a shot.

I ordered jambalaya ($18) & my wife ordered the dinosaur ribs ($28). We also had a crab cake appetizer ($11).

The service was slow to begin with however the single waitress had her hands full & she did do a good job. The servers however were annoying, constantly cleaning our table that didn't need cleaning & taking away our plates without asking us. We had sweet potato fries remaining & he just took them away assuming we were done. He went so fast I didn't even have a chance to tell him.

As for the food. The crab cake app was good however way overpriced. It was 5 very small meatball size crab cake balls on a plate for $11?!

When our mains came I was a bit disappointed. My jambalaya was not really a jambalaya. Usually they are served in a bowl & just a mixed mess. They decided to separate everything neatly which made it look like a completely different dish. I had to ask the waitress if my plate was in fact what I ordered. Aside from that, the chicken was incredibly dry, I barely tasted any andouille sausage & the overall taste was not that of a jambalaya.

The dinosaur ribs my wife ordered consisted of 5 big bones with a bit of meat stuck on them. Honestly it looks impressive until you start seeing how little meat there is on these monster sized bones. The flavor was there but nothing special. For $28 you would expect more & not leave hungry.

My overall impression of this place was disappointing & I find the prices a rip off for what you get.
