amazing food. Cheapest prices out there. Best bang for your buck. It's our goto place for indian food.
My wife and I came to this restaurant expecting something different. We both love Louisiana creole style food and figure this would be the place that would best represent. There's not many restaurants of its kind in the greater Montreal area so we gave it a shot.
I ordered jambalaya ($18) and my wife ordered the dinosaur ribs ($28). We also had a crab cake appetizer ($11).
The service was slow to begin with however the single waitress had her hands full and she did do a good job. The servers however were annoying, constantly cleaning our table that didn't need cleaning and taking away our plates without asking us. We had sweet potato fries remaining and he just took them away assuming we were done. He went so fast I didn't even have a chance to tell him.
As for the food. The crab cake app was good however way overpriced. It was 5 very small meatball size crab cake balls on a plate for $11?!
When our mains came I was a bit disappointed. My jambalaya was not really a jambalaya. Usually they are served in a bowl and just a mixed mess. They decided to separate everything neatly which made it look like a completely different dish. I had to ask the waitress if my plate was in fact what I ordered. Aside from that, the chicken was incredibly dry, I barely tasted any andouille sausage and the overall taste was not that of a jambalaya.
The dinosaur ribs my wife ordered consisted of 5 big bones with a bit of meat stuck on them. Honestly it looks impressive until you start seeing how little meat there is on these monster sized bones. The flavor was there but nothing special. For $28 you would expect more and not leave hungry.
My overall impression of this place was disappointing and I find the prices a rip off for what you get.
This place is terrible. We both ordered the grilled chicken and beef plates. It took forever to serve us. Others were being served even though they came after us. I had to actually ask the waitress where our food was and only then it came. I think they just forgot about us because the food was not very hot when it got to us. When we got our food, the beef was though and chewy and the chicken was raw and red in the middle. Anyways I didn't want to get sick so we didn't eat it. I didn't bother telling the waitress about it because she really didn't care about us and I just wanted to get the hell out of there and did not feel like waiting for them to "correct" our issue.
This has to be one of my favorite spots. Tried tested and true. I must have gone here over two dozen times. I'm actually surprised i haven't reviewed it sooner.
Usually my fiance and I end up going for the chicken and beef combo which is really one of the best things in the world I find. I don't know how they cook that chicken and that beef flank, all I know is that it tastes amazing every time. Always tender and juicy with just the right amount of seasoning. The imperial roll they have is THE best I've ever tasted. I keep looking for places to top it and just cant, they never seem to get it like they do.
Their other dishes such as Shrimp with spicy ginger sauce are also very good.
As for entre's, I really recommend the peanut butter dumplings. They are amazing. Just the right amount of consistency with just the right amount of seasoning. Their sauce really rocks. Another one would be their salt and pepper calamari. It's really good, just wish they had more per serving!
Service wise, they were always very good to us. Always polite friendly and accommodating.
Oh and I almost for got. On top of all the goodness, this place is a mf'ing bring your own wine! Doesn't that just automatically win you over?
In the end this place can't really disappoint me. We just keep going back for a reason. Like I said tried tested and true. I can't say that for many places.
My experience was that the food was bland, the prices were much higher than most other similar places and the portions were small.
Additionally I don't really feel comfortable having the owner come and see me just to gloat about how good his food is and pushing me to go on resto montreal just to give a positive review.
Well here's my review. I hope you like it.
We ordered Chilli chicken and got some weird general tao hybrid! I've had chilli chicken before and it ain't that! Most of it was overly garnished with onions and overcooked peppers. We also had lamb kahdahi which was bland as hell and had tough pieces of lamb with lots of fat... gross... The Naan were soggy as well. Nothing really good to say about the food.
Service was almost non-existent. The girl never came to see if we were fine or refill our water. I tried to flag her down and she looked right through me.
I was really hopeful about this place when I read all the good reviews. I am sorely disappointed with it and plan to never go back!
Overall, this is an excellent restaurant. The food is some of the best I've tasted. A little on the pricey side for Indian food however the quality is definitely representative.
I went there with my fiance not knowing really what to expect other than it being a tasting menu and BYOW. I found the food overall very good and the service very adequate. The ambiance and decor is really nice. The peanut butter dumplings are to die for. The General Thai chicken is the best I have ever eaten hands down. Overall it's a very nice place to go.
