Review Summary

La Carreta is described as a beloved spot for pupusas in Montreal with consistently delicious and authentic flavors, generous fillings, and a house salsa that earns high marks. The menu blends Salvadoran staples with some familiar Mexican options and is noted for good portions and fair prices for the quality. Service is repeatedly praised as friendly and attentive, and the vibe is warm and inviting with a modern touch. Some reviews mention long waits on busy nights and suggest booking ahead, while others note occasional slow service when dining with larger groups. A few comments point out that prices have become a bit steep for some items and dessert variety could be improved, but many still call it the best pupusas in Montreal. In sum, La Carreta comes across as a reliable favorite for authentic pupusas and strong hospitality, with minor caveats about wait times and pricing.

Being Salvadoran, I confirm this is 100% authentic. Food quality is consistently great. Service is really good & prices are fair for the quality you get. Fully recommended!

We primarily went to try their pupusas-thick, handmade corn tortillas filled with various delicious ingredients, such as cheese, beans, pork, or loroco (an edible flower bud). Delectable fillings, golden-brown, crispy exteriors that give way to warm, gooey centers bursting with flavor & a symphony of textures & tastes that are both comforting & satisfying. They were served with curtido, a pickled cabbage slaw, & a side of tomato salsa, adding a zesty & tangy contrast to the rich & hearty pupusa. A versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or main course. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, or cheese enthusiast, there's a pupusa filling for everyone to enjoy. We also enjoyed a wonderful tamale, a warming beef soup, some excellent & colourful cocktails, & yes, even a poutine with yucca fries (we had to). A must-try for anyone looking to experience the joy of authentic Central American food. So, if you haven't had the pleasure of trying pupusas yet, we recommend this. You won't be disappointed!

Food was really good & portion big, its authentic & felt like eating at home but the service was super slow even tho we were 3 tables, it took the waitresse over 20 mins just to bring us the horchata & water & even longer to be able to order food.

I love the food here because it tastes like home. The food is simple, healthy & very authentic. I'm not latino but whenever I have their food I just felt like it was cooked by my grandma. Absolutely love it.
