Review Summary

Reviews for La Carreta frequently crown the pupusas as the best in Montreal, with many calling them the best in the world and praising generous fillings and flavorful sauces. The menu blends authentic Salvadoran staples with familiar Mexican picks, and drinks such as horchata are described as excellent. Service is often warm and friendly and the atmosphere welcoming and well put together, though a few notes mention long waits on busy nights and the interior sometimes feeling cold or the volume being a bit loud and some feel it has become more expensive than before. Prices are generally seen as fair for the quality, reservations are advised to minimize waits, and the place remains a top destination in Montreal for pupusas, with reviews also highlighting chicharron, tamales, and consistently good food.

Man, have I missed this place & their perfect pupusas! The food was terrific - my steak was exactly medium-rare & the pork that accompanied it was a welcome addition. Excellent portions.

We primarily went to try their pupusas-thick, handmade corn tortillas filled with various delicious ingredients, such as cheese, beans, pork, or loroco (an edible flower bud). Delectable fillings, golden-brown, crispy exteriors that give way to warm, gooey centers bursting with flavor & a symphony of textures & tastes that are both comforting & satisfying. They were served with curtido, a pickled cabbage slaw, & a side of tomato salsa, adding a zesty & tangy contrast to the rich & hearty pupusa. A versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or main course. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, or cheese enthusiast, there's a pupusa filling for everyone to enjoy. We also enjoyed a wonderful tamale, a warming beef soup, some excellent & colourful cocktails, & yes, even a poutine with yucca fries (we had to). A must-try for anyone looking to experience the joy of authentic Central American food. So, if you haven't had the pleasure of trying pupusas yet, we recommend this. You won't be disappointed!

This is a cute & cozy little place that I enjoyed for my birthday dinner with a friend. It was very crowded when we arrived & was a tight squeeze for people to get around. I love the pupusa with pork & cheese & the yuca fries. They have really great drinks! I did not like where our table was next to the kitchen & in front of the bar...lots of traffic & felt in the middle of everything. The women's bathroom is falling apart & really needs a major revamp. Bar area is really impressive with the neon lights & set up. Lastly on the website it said that there is a dj on Saturday nights but there wasn't so this was disappointing & one of the reasons I chose to go to this spot. All in all not a bad place if you want to try pupusas.

The pupusas here are outstanding & the fried yuca & pork was amazing however the other menu items we ordered weren’t that great. We ordered tamales as an entree which came cold & we had to ask them to reheat them for us which kind of sucked because we knew they were just being popped in the microwave for a few minutes.
