We were excited to come to Cage to watch the World Cup final & planned to spend the afternoon there, ordering food & drinks. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing.
When we arrived, the only available space was in the corner of the restaurant, where there were just two seats. There were three of us, so we figured one person could simply share a seat while we watched. We weren't blocking anyone's view or taking up extra space, especially since there was plenty of room to stand nearby.
Mind you; there were empty seats around that the manager didn't even want to give it to us.
Instead of trying to find a reasonable solution, the manager immediately told us to leave. There was no effort to accommodate us, no empathy, & no customer service. His attitude came across as dismissive & arrogant, as though there was no room for discussion.
Rather than giving Cage our business, we chose to leave & spend our money elsewhere. It's disappointing that on one of the biggest sporting events of the year, customer service was handled this way.
A little flexibility & kindness would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, this experience ensured we won't be returning.
The atmosphere & our server were good, but unfortunately the overall experience was disappointing.
My salmon was served dried, & after mentioning it, the response was that it was supposed to be that way… that wasn't the experience I expected.
What made things worse was that two heavily intoxicated customers sitting nearby were disruptive throughout the evening. They spilled drinks on the floor, repeatedly touched the waitress while trying to get more service, & created an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone around them. Despite the obvious discomfort, the situation wasn't addressed.
Good service from the waitress, but dried salmon & poor management of disruptive guests mean I won't be returning.
Services en plein festival de jazz vraiment bien , super bon drink, malheureusement incapable de satisfaire les clients qui brulent au soleil malgré des pares soleil pour justement Filtrée le soleil .... Nous avons quitté pour aller ailleurs.
I LOVE this place. Of course, it's the perfect spot to watch any sports game (hockey, baseball, soccer, etc...), but, really, this is my go-to venue for any occasion. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about it.
Atmosphere: I have been to many La Cage locations, but this one is truly the best. Nice layout, huge screens, & so many TVs all around that you always have a great view.
Food & drinks: So tasty. My favorites: chicken wings, burgers, pizzas, nachos, & the tuna tataki bowl, just to name a few. They also have a nice selection of beer-always fresh.
Staff: The best part & the main reason why I love this place. I have never had a negative experience with any of them. In fact, they make our time here so much better. Simon is the best; he makes sure we have an amazing time every single visit. & kudos to Vince, Sara, Margarita, Alex, & all the others whose names I can't remember (sorry!).
They also have nice specials almost every day, plus a great point system & perks on their app.
For those visiting Montreal, the location can't be better. Right at the festival site (Quartier des Spectacles) on Sainte-Catherine street.
Went to La Cage to watch the game & honestly had one of the worst restaurant experiences ever.
The waiter kept coming to our table every few minutes trying to take away our plates & drinks even when we were clearly not finished. Sometimes he would already take things away & then immediately ask if we wanted to order more. We ended up ordering extra food & even dessert, but the whole time we felt rushed & pressured instead of being able to relax & enjoy the game.
At one point they even took away our water bottle while we were still sitting there. By the end, we were so annoyed that we didn't even want to stay & finish watching the game anymore.
What makes this more frustrating is that their website clearly says customers can stay until the end of the game. I've watched games at many other restaurants before & never experienced this kind of treatment.
When we finally asked for the bill, we still had to wait around 30 minutes before getting it. Despite the bad experience, we still left a tip, but honestly we regretted coming here at all.
Definitely would not go back.
Went on a very busy Friday night.Place was jammed packed , of course , everybody was watching the hockey game.
No, wait time to get seats at the bar.Drinks & food service was very fast & the servers & hostess were extremely friendly , much appreciated.
The beers were cold. The nachos were absolutely delicious. Had a great time with highly recommend for any occasion.
Stopped in for a quick drink, service was so good that decided to stay for dinner, glad we did. Enjoyed the place.
I think reading the reviews people are confused about what La Cage is about. It's not about the best meal you'll ever eat. It's about an amazing atmosphere to watch a sporting event. Great service, great atmosphere, decent food & drinks. If this is your understanding & expectation it is 5 stars all the way. If your focus is quality of food & drink then there are many better option. Personally we loved our experience watching the Canadiens kick butt & we would definitely return.
I was in town for a work conference. Food was great. Drinks were amazing. Great prices as well.
I'm writing this review to advise others about how confusing game nights can be at this location. I live nearby, so it's usually my go-to place when I feel like watching a game.
In the past, I was told that there are no reservations for the bar section & that it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of that, I came early specifically to request a booth so I could secure the table I wanted. However, when I arrived, I was told I couldn't have the booth because it was reserved - which contradicts what I had previously been told about not being able to reserve those tables.
The hostess then said she could gladly give me another table. I mentioned that I was there to watch the game, which is why I wanted that specific seating area. I ordered my drink, only to find out afterward that I would have to leave by 6:30 because they needed the table.
The manager came over & explained there had been a misunderstanding, but that I still needed to leave because the table was reserved. As a result, I had to quickly finish my drink & leave.
I place the responsibility for this situation on the manager & the hostess. The waiter, however, was very nice, polite, & even excused himself for the situation - kudos to him.
Unfortunately, this experience left me with a bittersweet feeling about this location.
