Amazing find for vegetarians! Service was so friendly & recommended us to get substitutions. We decided on getting the tofu red curry & veggie spring rolls & it did not disappoint! Can't wait to come back & try some of the other options.
The food here tastes good. Excellent value for the poutine based on market rates per pound of food. I appreciate the selection that included the fried nugget pieces. Merci
I went to La Banquise for several years & always had a very good experience. But I went yesterday & they changed for a smaller portion, lack of sauce & changed the fries. I was so desappointed. It seems like they changed the owner.
La Banquise is the best poutine spot in all of North America. There's just nothing quite like it. There's a wide selection of different poutine's to try, but just the original classic poutine on its own is SO GOOD. It may even concert a poutine hater to a poutine lover. Now I know what you're thinking, "It's just fries with cheese & gravy on top. How good could it be?" Well it's pretty darn good because we have kept coming back time after time on our visits to Montreal & we're from Toronto. I've attached pictures & videos of our visit on two separate occasions, one year apart. Here's something you have to know: you will have to wait & it will be crowded. There are so many people that want to try this poutine & come back because it is quite literally world famous so there's always a line out front. Also, once you get inside, it is a pretty small restaurant, but there are many tables that are very closely placed together so you might feel a little bit cramped. However, the service is quick because they need to be to accommodate all the people constantly coming in & out, & they're pretty helpful at helping you choose what you might like. We recommend the classic poutine & La Royale. We also heard that a lot of locals prefer the poutine across the street at La Poule Mouillée but we realized they only serve one type of poutine there so we chose to try a well-known & widely popular restaurant instead, & we're glad that we did. It lives up to the hype & you have to try it the next time you're in Montreal.
One of the most popular poutine spots in Montreal. We tried the classique poutine, but found the gravy a bit too salty & the overall dish wasn't anything special-it felt a bit overrated. We went on Christmas Eve morning, & the atmosphere was warm & cozy. The restaurant is on a charming street, & the service was great-everyone was friendly. I wouldn't recommend coming just for the poutine (the menu is quite diverse, so it's worth trying other dishes & enjoying the small-town vibe.
Excellent poutine! They have a variety of toppings. I was expecting more fries than toppings, but it was the opposite! I had the pulled pork with bacon & apples. It was loaded with gravy & curds throughout the dish. Absolutely delicious!
Everything was good. The waitress was friendly & helpful. The doors came quickly & was delicious.
I'm not personally a poutine fan, but as I was visiting the city, I thought I should try this place thanks to the recommendations. The poutine was delicious & loaded with meat, fries & cheese curds. It was really busy the day when I went, so called in placed an order & went to collect it. There was a lineup to collect the food when my group went there & the place was filled to the brim. I'll surely recommend this place to anyone who visits Montreal & have any of their offerings. The quantity is generous.
I visited this restaurant today after a recommendation from a friend. I experienced very strange behaviour from the server. While I was paying the bill, she forcefully asked me to tip them 15%, which eventually she added in the bill. I was completely shocked it seems like she was begging for tip ; she even explained that she didn't get paid enough , tip is her's pay. Not acceptable behaviour.
Some of the best poutine in Montreal. Plates are heavy & the toppings are PILED on! We tried to wait in line on a Friday night but it was too long so we came again on Sunday around 9:30pm & there was no line thankfully. Between 9pm-6am you do have to pre pay. Our server was also very friendly & very patient as we could not choose which one to get! Soo many options! Our second time here, first time dining in & we cannot wait to come back!
Clean restaurant with friendly service. Lunch time gets busy! Baby friendly
Definitely worth the hype! Been wanting to come here for many years. When me & my husband planned our trip throughout eastern Canada we knew we had to come here when in Montréal! Staff is bilingual, had no problem speaking English. Very attentive, fun vibe/atmosphere. A bit cramped for space, but I feel that just added to it. I ordered La Festival, & I've gotta say that was one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything came together perfectly, even though when you see the item on the menu, you wonder how in the heck can that taste good - trust me, it does! Fries were not soggy or too salty. Ground beef wasn't too greasy & the gravy was perfect. The cheese curds were perfection. Merci, beaucoup amour! 🩷
naadeshwari, the restaurant has a good vibe & really friendly & welcoming service
Woh woh woh, this is a great place. I live in Toronto & I visited Montreal for a couple of days & one of my friends suggested me to eat here & wow that place was so good I couldn't get it out of my head the taste the atmosphere. I started checking poutine places in Toronto, but I couldn't find any. It's really something else, A must visit if you are a fooddie of any kind in Montréal visit. Thank you for hosting us.......
The very best place to try the local poutine! You know the place is good when the place is crowded, the atmosphere was welcoming. The menu is big & vegan friendly. The poutine was delicious.
Very pleasant place to eat a great poutine my boyfriend ordered a t-rex poutine & i ordered the scooby poutine best poutine ive ever had if you like deep fried pickles i highly recommend will be coming back. Very friendly staff & very clean environment. We drove from Gatineau to try it
La Banquise is a must-visit for anyone in Montreal who has a passion for poutine. Famous for its extensive variety of this beloved Quebecois dish, I had heard a lot about it, & my first visit certainly lived up to the hype. When we arrived, I was initially intimidated by the long line stretching outside the restaurant. It was a sunny day, & we had just finished a lengthy walk through the Montreal area, so the prospect of waiting wasn't exactly thrilling. However, to my pleasant surprise, we were seated much faster than I had anticipated. Despite the crowd, the staff worked efficiently, & we were settled into our seats in no time. We ordered the'La Taquise' & the'La Classique', two of their poutine offerings. The'La Taquise' brought a delicious twist with its addition of guacamole & sour cream, while the'La Classique' stayed true to the roots with its simple, yet incredibly satisfying combination of fries, gravy, & cheese curds. The gravy was rich & savory, the fries perfectly crispy, & the cheese curds squeaked just the right amount. It's no exaggeration to say that their poutine is to die for. Every bite was indulgent, comforting, & packed with flavor. The overall experience was fantastic, & for my first visit, I'm already looking forward to many more this year. La Banquise lives up to its reputation, offering a quintessential Montreal poutine experience in a casual, lively setting. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's a spot you don't want to miss!
Went on a trip from Winnipeg to Montréal with a friend & we came here after hearing it was a well-known/liked poutine spot. However, we were extremely disappointed with the service. First, they made us pay for our food before the meal. I guess this made sense considering that it was late & people may dine & dash, but, when came the time to tip, I reflexively tipped 15%. My friend, on the other hand, did not tip because we had not been served our food yet & the waitress (Melanie) had also barely talked to us at all before she came by to hand us the machines. My friend was thinking of maybe tipping in cash depending on quality of the food & service AFTER the experience, which makes sense. However, the waitress quickly took a rude tone & said (& I quote): "It looks like you forgot to tip me. Would you like to pay for the tip separately or give it to me in change?" My friend calmly responded: "No, it's okay, we'll see". Melanie started raising her voice quite loudly at my friend & went on a long rant about how we're "expected" to tip, that the fact that she's serving us means that it's "unacceptable" for her not to receive a tip, that she "pays taxes" etc etc. This alone made me regret the tip I had given her. It ruined the whole experience for both of us &, although the poutine was good, I would not come back simply due to this experience. This is not something we've ever had happen to us anywhere else we've traveled to, or even in Winnipeg, where we've lived our entire lives.
Good Place to it the best Poutine. The fries are good. The brown sauce is excellent & the cheese on top is perfect.
In Montreal for a quick visit & had to stop by & try La Banquise. It was fantastic. From start to finish the service was amazing. The gentleman that seated us was funny & super friendly. The food came out quick & was really delicious. Even the people waiting outside were friendly & chatted as I waited for my wife & kid. All in all, it was a great experience & visit. I'll be back next time I'm in Montreal.
