I've been to many AYCE sushi places & this one holds up. My favourite part is a cute little buffet section included in the price for desserts, soups & wok stir frys which is very convenient (although the stir frys section was made to order instead on weekdays). Unique offerings include torched sashimi, ssamjang sauce wings, & fried calamari rings (yum). They have the standard fare, with some great hits (sushi is rlly good) but also misses which aren't too important (some of the side dishes). The place itself may feel slightly dated, but it's still pleasant to sit in. Overall, I would go again, & this place really does deserve a higher rating!
& bring cash!
Presently my favorite open sushi restaurant! Amazing taste & quality of sushi with friendly & fast service! 5 stars!
Our visit to Koyo turned out very dissapointing! Overpriced for the quality of food we received.. 100$ for two people was not worth it at all.
The sushi was not the greatest, especially the dragon eye maki which is fried was cold! The pad thai tasted more like ginger than anything else & the chow mein noodles were very salty!
As for dumplings, they had one choice & that was the peanut butter dumplings.. Service was ok, waiters were friendly! Atmosphere was ok as well but it was cold in there, i had to keep my jacket on!
Unfortunately, left dissapointed & will not be returning! Best of luck!
Absolutely terrible experience: so many hidden fees & the service was extremely slow. They falsely advertised the amount of food in each dish on the screen which showed 3 big pieces of beef however I got 4 slivers of beef thin as paper. The'Chinese' buffet was a joke. Everything was extremely greasy to the Pad THAI(which is Thai not Chinese) to the soggy sausages that looked like fingers. Total was 110 dollars with tip included that's they add automatically for 2 people(teens I might add). Food was mediocre at best & we had so much leftover food that they just threw out because they charge an outrageous price of 1:50 per sushi to take home. Never coming back here again.
Koyo Sushi was fantastic. The sushi was super fresh, beautifully prepared, & honestly some of the best I've had in a while. Every dish tasted like it was made with real care.
Shoutout to our server Dre, who made the whole experience even better. Great recommendations, super friendly, & somehow always showed up right when we needed something - almost like sushi-serving magic.
Amazing food, great service, & definitely a place I'll be coming back to. Thanks Dre!
Deeply disappointing. Would not recommend.
This was hands down one of the worst sushi experiences I've had. The food was unbelievably bland - no balance, no seasoning, no depth of flavor. Everything tasted flat & lifeless, like it was assembled with zero care or understanding of sushi.
The fish was especially bad. It did not taste fresh at all, & the texture was off, which completely killed any chance of enjoying the meal. Sushi lives & dies by freshness, & this missed the mark entirely.
For the price they charge, this place is honestly insulting. I kept waiting for something to redeem the experience, but every bite just made me regret ordering more. If you're craving sushi, do yourself a favor & go literally anywhere else.
Never coming back
Sushi fresh & big portions. New bar for soups, fruits, ice cream! Nice place!
Koyo has done more than just changing its name. Food is fresh & tasty, variety ir great & everyone is nice. I am big portion person so I don't think there's a place a prefer to eat sushi. But even if you're not someone that eats a lot I would give it try bringing friends or family.
I'm filing a formal complaint... against my own lack of self-control.
I honestly came here just for a quick bite on Décarie, but Koyo Sushi clearly had other plans for me. I am currently writing this while suffering from a severe food coma, & I have zero regrets.
Let's talk about the Sashimi (see my photos if you don't believe me).
Usually, when you order salmon at mid-range spots, you get these sad, paper-thin slices that look like they've been on a diet. But here? Look at that orange color. That is high-definition fish. The slices were so thick they should honestly charge rent. The fat marbling was perfect-it literally just dissolved on my tongue. I almost ordered a second round, but I needed to save room for the rolls, which was a dangerous decision.
The Rolls:
I don't know what kind of engineering degree the chef has, but the structural integrity of these rolls is impressive considering how much topping they piled on.
The Spicy Crab & Tobiko one: It's a mountain of crab meat. A literal mountain. The popping texture of the fish eggs mixed with the creamy crab? Unfairly good.
The Crispy Onion one: This was the MVP. The crunch from the onions vs. the soft rice & spicy mayo... it's a texture bomb. It's messy, it's saucy, & it's exactly what sushi should be. None of that dry, boring stuff.
The Vibe & Service:
The place was buzzing, which is usually a good sign (never trust an empty sushi restaurant, right?). The staff were running around like ninjas making sure everyone got fed. They didn't hover over me, which I appreciate because I prefer to inhale my food in peace.
Verdict:
If you are on a diet, do not come here. You will fail.
If you like eating generous portions of fresh fish until you can't walk straight, this is your spot.
I'm definitely coming back, but I might need to wear stretchier pants next time. 10/10 would recommend.
Honestly, the best all you can eat sushi in the area.
The service is great & for an all you can eat restaurant the quality food is amazingly good!!!
Dissapointed!! Not worth to spend your time & money!
sometimes outright terrible food. We paid $100 for two people on a Sunday evening, which was completely unjustified.
The buffet was extremely disappointing: French fries, rice, soups, noodles (absolutely awful & possibly spoiled), plus some vegetables & fruit. Nothing special, nothing worth the price.
The place was dirty, & the atmosphere felt cheap & unpleasant. Some sushi & sashimi were so cold that my sensitive teeth were in shock - I ended up suffering from tooth pain for the rest of the evening after this visit.
Do not waste your time or money here. Montreal has plenty of much better places at the same price point.
Food was bad & the hot food bar was cold & flavourless. For the price which is like 116 for 2 people you get supermarket sushi & calamari that make u question whats really in them.
What used to be called Kanda, or Canda Sushi, is now rebranded as Koyo Sushi. Comparing the old management to the new one, Koyo is definitely an improvement. The sushi tasted better, felt fresher, & there was more variety. Prices are about the same as before.
The only downside is the limited parking space. They also offer a small open buffet that's included in the all you can eat price per person, which is a nice touch. I'd probably come back to try it again.
Too much variation & food choices & none were perfectly made, have all kind of Chinese food & dim sum... But none of quality
The only good dish we really like are the beef skewers... A bit disappointed for the price.
Exceptional service but below average food
The sushi fish are kind fresh but tasteless
