My family & I had had the tasting menu & it was great. We could tell the chefs cooked with passion & pride, & the service was more than exemplary.
Food-wise, the highlight was by far the short rib in our opinion: fall-off-the-bone tender, great flavor combinations, good variety of textures, appealing presentation. An absolute banger to wrap up the savory portion of the menu. That is not to say we didn't like the other courses-the mushroom pasta & the dessert were to die for!
Go support these folks who hail from the humble Filipino hood of CDN! Also, s/o to Oliver & Chef Lorenzo. Will come again!
It was my first time trying Filipino food, interesting to see cultures blend. Cudos to chef Lorenzo!!! The pasta was sooo good, as well as the short rib. Cocktails were interesting Ella! But the music!! oMg couldn't stop dancing the whole dinner.
& last but not least….Oliver! So much vibe ❤?
Great vibes & fun & attentive service from Oliver, Ella & Chef Lorenzo! Mushroom pasta was amazing, & the grilled octopus was delicious. Would come back for the pasta. Kudos!
A chilled vibe with a focused menu from Chef Lorenzo - loved the duck adobo! Brilliant service from Oliver & Ella, & a great playlist, would definitely recommend a visit!
Cool atmosphere with vibey music. Inventive dishes bringing Filipino traditions & flavours to a fine dining-esque presentation. Everything was rich & flavorful & service was charmingly vibrant. The beef short rib was rightly a signature dish - must have. Oliver & Ella were amazing, & kudos to chef Lorenzo for making us feel very welcomed.
The place is amazing! The atmosphere was top notch with great music as well! Olivier really knew how to make us comfortable as well as giving us a great & fast service! Chef Lorenzo made sure to give us quality food! Highly recommend!
Exactly what we hoped for a date night out. Relaxed & hip atmosphere, amazing dishes (the octopus, lime prawn & short ribs are OUT OF THIS WORLD) & incredible friendly service. Thank you Rey, Marvin, Chef Lorenzo.. everyone made us feel like family. Definitely an authentic spot & what Montreal's food scene is all about.
We had such an incredible experience here! It's Filipino cuisine with a modern twist & the chef truly outdid himself. Every dish we tried (yes, we tried almost everything on the menu) was even better than the last. The flavors were bold & creative. The cocktails were just as impressive, perfectly crafted to match the food. Service was top notch the entire team was warm & attentive & our waitress was so sweet & made us feel right at home. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a memorable dining experience!
I'm writing this review a few months later, but only because I still think about it to this day!! We ate at this restaurant to celebrate an anniversary over the summer, & the food & presentation was gorgeous. I didn't even think Filipino food could get any better, but Junjun absolutely blew our minds. They were also accommodating to my allergies & were able to modify some of the plates we ordered - which nonetheless still tasted amazing. The chef & one of the owners came to our table at the end to greet us & it also left a great impression on us. Everything was worth it. The best service & food ever!!
Me & my friend wanted to eat somewhere close by especially because it was raining. Having been to Juniors so many times, we wanted to try something different. I've always noticed Junjun since it opened officially but never had the chance to visit. Today we decided to go when it was a quiet night for them due to the rain. We were served by Rey who went out of his way to create an unforgettable dining experience & was lovely to chat with about the history of the dishes. We decided to try the $85 6 course menu. I asked if the Pandesal was included in the 6 course menu & it wasn't but Rey served it to us as a complimentary dish which was very kind of him. How could I resist bread at a restaurant? Every single course went beyond my expectations. My absolute favourites were the seared scallop on top of a leek puree & the beef carpaccio with a bone marrow sauce. There was 1 menu item that paled in comparison to the other 5. That was the ravioli filled with langoustine. I found the langoustine's natural taste was being covered by the thick ravioli itself & the overpowering sauce which consists of mushrooms & truffle oil. I let Rey know of my friend & my personal ranking of the dishes & he took our opinions very seriously. We ended up having a talk about constructive criticism & how it's good to hear the good & the bad. Rey's friendly attitude & open mindedness was a refreshing experience that complimented the food. At the end of the meal, Rey asked us if we would like to try the dessert on the house if we had room. Knowing me, I always have room for dessert so I said absolutely! Unsurprisingly, even the dessert was delicious. The fermented coconut topped a rice cake dessert along with a coconut caramel sauce. It wasn't too sweet & can be compared to the cassava cake at Juniors. However, the cassava cake will always hold a special place in my heart. Once again, I would not hesitate to visit again & the food is absolutely worth the pricing. Thank you to the chefs & to Rey.
Chef's kiss !!! Attentive staff, incredible food & great service. The interior design & atmosphere has also been curated to perfection. I was especially taken aback by the Braised Cabbage & Duck Adobo, however everything we tried was fantastic. Was my friend's birthday & the owner was especially kind to our group :). Great vegetarian options also. It's mostly tapas, we were five & this was enough for us to be full. Will definitely be returning.
What can I say? Incredible food that plays with & breaks culinary conventions that results in a new gastronomic playground. The various pop-ups also display how creative & collaborative the chefs are.
Jun Jun is a relatively newish restaurant (Jan 2024) serving an elevated level of Filipino cuisine. In partnership with the neighboring Junior on Notre Dame street, Jun Jun welcoming atmosphere does set the right tone along its narrow & deep layout, including a small bar area. A long pine green wall contrasts against an opposing white wall & dotted with bleached maple tables & black chairs...overall it works. The menu is not atypical Filipino food...more inspired by than actual dishes. For our large groups we ordered one of everything (at least...on two dishes we asked for re-orders). I will not go though every dish but call out what we found were the stand outs...NILIGASA SA MISO (a calamansi braised cabbage with miso glaze...very, very tasty. So much so we ordered in twice), KAMTENG PINAKBET (a baked sweet potato dish...also excellent & twice ordered), ARROZ CALDO (a mushroom risotto which, I am not clear on the Filipino connection, but was a big hit at the table) & the KABIBI (seared scallops...again, delicious). Furthermore, the only two desserts available were also excellent & we were hard pressed to determine which was our favorite; either thee TURON MILLE-FEUILLE or the BIBINGKA. Either way, both are great! Service was excellent. The server was extremely friendly & simultaneously professional & casual with the food (especially the appetizers) being delivered almost immediately after ordering & the food flowing seamlessly after that. Definitely a place to checkout & try. Enjoy! NOTE: With regards to the menu option...as we were leaving the young talented chef gracious met us at our table & subsequently informed us that the menu would be change in a few weeks to reflect a Spring season so I am not sure what on this Winter menu will be retained.
