We can understand the hype. Service was friendly & the food was over the top in the best way. The oysters, lettuces with apple dressing, & lobster pasta were real highlights!
An unforgettable evening at Joe Beef!
We had dinner at Joe Beef on July 3, & it absolutely lived up to its legendary reputation. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed into an atmosphere that was warm, eclectic, lively, & full of personality. The restaurant has a charm that's impossible to fake-it's energetic without feeling rushed & makes you feel like you're part of something special.
A huge thank you to Simon, our server, who made the evening exceptional. He struck the perfect balance between professionalism & fun, making us feel genuinely welcome while expertly guiding us through the menu. His wine recommendations paired beautifully with our meal, & his enthusiasm for the food & the restaurant was remarkable.
Every dish was outstanding, but the escargot was absolutely phenomenal-rich, flavorful, & perfectly prepared. The tomato salad was surprisingly one of the highlights of the evening, showcasing incredibly fresh ingredients with simple, flawless execution.
Simon also steered us toward fantastic wine selections that complemented every course, & he saved room for dessert with recommendations that were the perfect ending to an already incredible meal. Every bite was memorable.
Joe Beef isn't just a restaurant-it's an experience. Outstanding food, incredible hospitality, a unique atmosphere, & service that goes above & beyond. Simon helped make our visit one we'll be talking about for a long time.
By far the best restaurant in Montreal. Great food , good options , service is fun & the ambiance also. It s not a snob place you have a great time while eating great food at a reasonable price.
I thought it was a possibility that Joe Beef could be an overhyped'Montreal Institution'... I was very pleased that Joe Beef is not overhyped at all & deserves all of their accolades!
From the service to the atmosphere & of course to the food... everything was excellent. We were greeted by an extremely friendly & welcoming hostess. We were served by two wonderful servers, Leo & Mixi (i think, sp?). We received attentive service with personality & great recommendations. We truly felt welcomed & treated so well! The wine suggestion was incredible. & all of the food was top tier! I will excitedly recommend Joe Beef to anyone going to Montreal!
Cavier, escargot, rabbit & pork sausage, & crispy fowl! 2 desserts because we were celebrating & having a great time.
Bourdain chasing on our group's Quebec trip. Had high hopes but ended up a bit underwhelmed. Our group had oysters, steak tartare, escargot, lobster spaghetti, & Guinea hen bouillabaisse.
Everything other than the lobster spaghetti was perfect. Steak tartare perfectly seasoned, escargot was herby & garlicky, & the bird was amazing. I'm personally not a fan of cream sauces but this one blew me away, not to mention the mushroom medley around it was peak as well. However, the lobster spaghetti was underseasoned, almost as if they forgot to salt the pasta water? I could definitely taste the powdered lobster shell in the sauce, but the lack of salt made everything a bit muted, which is unfortunate considering the price.
The bread was standard, butter was above average. Mashed potatoes also good. The layer cake was also good, tasted like chocolate hazelnut cake, but the ganache layer made it special (who doesn't like ganache?)
Not sure if I'll be back.
What an amazing meal! Our group ended up running pretty late to our reservation, but the staff was incredibly accommodating & never made us feel rushed, even though it was getting close to the end of the night. We asked our server to choose some of their favorite dishes for us, & they absolutely nailed it-everything was outstanding. Some of the biggest standouts were the white fish &, of course, the beef. We also loved the escargot & the bone marrow, & the bread served with the bone marrow was incredible. It was a memorable dining experience from start to finish, & we would definitely recommend it.
Easily the best meal in Montreal among many. Great sevice, great food, & great company. Lobster spaghetti is a must! The sear on the Halibut was just as amazing.
So glad we were able to make the trip to Joe Beef! Food & service were fantastic. We had the escargot, terrine, oeuf en gelée, croquettes, lobster pasta, halibut, & for dessert got their 24 layer cake, ice cream sundae, & choux pastry strawberry cream. For 4 of us this was a great amount of food. I also had an amazing Caesar mocktail drink. Unfortunately I did not get pictures of everything as we wanted to eat as soon as the food was brought out. Highly recommend but make sure you secure a reservation well in advance!
