Secure broke the martini glass & splashed us. Served a plate of ghnocci without seasoning. Has to eat in shifts as food arrived staggered. Unceremonious meal.
6+ stars for service & atmosphere. We were an hour late for our reservation due a mistake but were seated without question & treated wonderfully. A bucket list item that did not disappoint. Léo & the rest of the staff are superstars
The best culinary experience I had in Montreal during the last 3 years. Food was fresh, creative, flavorful. Service was excellent, our server Felix was very attentive, helpful, & friendly.
The food took almost two hours to arrive, & even getting the bill took quite a while. The restaurant was very busy & spacious, which may have contributed to the delays. Our server was extremely kind & attentive. Although the food itself was not particularly delicious, she made an effort to improve our experience by giving each of us a complimentary dessert & replacing our original appetizer without charging us.
Overall, we had a fun time & enjoyed the good vibes, but considering the prices, the quality & experience did not fully match what we paid for.
Visited Joe Beef in early May. My food had to be sent back initially, but my wife became seriously ill from the meal. I called the restaurant multiple times while they were open to discuss what happened-no one answered.
I filed a dispute with my credit card company. The restaurant's response? They credited back only $3.25-the exact price of one oyster, when we'd ordered three. They made this specific refund without speaking to us, which means they clearly knew there was a food problem. Yet instead of properly addressing the issue, they essentially said:'We know the food made you sick, but you're still going to pay for most of it.' They fought the dispute despite this clear knowledge of the problem.
What's more troubling: they apparently cited a 72-hour window for food poisoning. If they did, they should know-or at least Google-that oyster-related illnesses can develop in as little as 30 to 60 minutes. A restaurant serving oysters should be aware of this basic food safety fact. Yet they still made us pay for a meal that made my wife seriously ill.
This restaurant had multiple opportunities to do the right thing-answer the phone, have a conversation, make it right. Instead, they admitted knowledge of the issue through a suspicious partial refund & forced us to eat the cost. I will not return, & I cannot recommend this place.
PS my wife called again 3x today while they were open before posting this review, since they said we never called.
It's called Joe beef & not Joe lobster spaghetti for a reason. The lobster pasta was over rated & lacked flavour. Everything else was great.
The entire experience was disappointing. I expected to be'wow'd' by simple things made special. They weren't. I'm rarely one to just fall for a name, but this time I did.
Come here for the wine & the starters! The escargot is spectacular-literally better than the escargot I've had in France, & easily the best of my life. Their wine list is also top-notch.
However, the mains left a bit to be desired. The steak was fairly mediocre, & the duck had a bit of a gamey odor, though the sauce helped cover it up. The pate was also just average.
