Had the Jeyuk Dolsot - excellent with the right amount of heat (not super spicy). Glad I ordered the Agedashi Tofu as well, as the sweetness of that sauce helped balance out the heat of the dolsot.
(Friend ordered the Bulgogi Dolsot.)
Tteokkochi too much sauce, not spicy enough, overstimulating-Ly sweet.
Jako is a small, cozy Korean restaurant with a decent variety of dishes. I tried two of their dolsot (stone bowl) options:
• Bulgogi Dolsot - 9/10 A solid dish with a good portion of beef & a soft egg. Flavor was nice, though not as rich or memorable as I expected.
• Spicy Squid Dolsot - 7.5/10 A decent pick if you like spicy food, but the squid was a bit underwhelming (the thin small cuts felt more like a side than the main feature)
The place has a warm atmosphere, but I found it a bit too dark during dinner, it was honestly hard to see what I was eating.
Overall, Jako is a nice spot & worth checking out. It delivers on expectations & justifies its good ratings, though it didn't quite impress me personally.
This is an authentic Korean restaurant, & we've been there a few times-every dish has been great & never disappointing. The cheese katsu is the best ever, & other Korean dishes like the spicy pork & soft tofu soup were also really good. One thing to note is that they're always busy, so you'll need a reservation in advance.
Went back after a few years & the portions seem to have shrunk a bit. I got the spicy pork bibimbap. The flavor was there & it was delicious, but there wasn't a lot of rice so it was a bit too salty & greasy.
A tasty korean restaurant in the neighborhood! Great variety of dishes & drinks, plus they are delicious & portions are just perfect. All ingredients felt fresh & tasty.
If you're looking for a delicious cozy option, this is it. The karaage mayo donburi had an amazing sauce & the chicken texture was just perfect. The creamy seafood yaki udon was crazy good, the sauce was spicy & tasty, while the shrimps & the mushrooms were cookd perfectly.
The atmosphere could change a little bit, by having more light.
Really good but spicy. Everything was savoury & service was good as well. Will return for sure
Easily one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious we were 2 & we ordered so much because we wanted to try everything. & every. Single. Plate. Delivered. The flavour & textures were flawless. We almost licked our plates. Even when we were full it was so good we kept eating! We told ourselves we were definitely going back to try more plates on the amazing menu. I'm not a big spicy eater so they even accommodated me for one of the appetizers by putting the spicy sauce on the side. Not only is the food to die for, the service was great! Every single person working there was so sweet & had beautiful smiles. 100% recommend!!
** The reviews DOESN'T lie! ** It's honestly one of the best korean food that I've ate in Montreal. The appetizer rice cake was good...cripsy outside & chewy inside, sweet&salty & a little bit spicy at the same time. The Dak Galbi Dolsot bowl was flavourful, it came very hot too. The only''bad'' thing that I have to say is about the size of the restaurant: it's very small, cannot take a lot of people at the same time so if you don't reserve your place, you won't be able to enter or maybe you'll wait for a long time. Overall, I strongly recommend it!
The karaage was great with the sweet & spicy sauce, very tender. Seafood udon was delicious, lots of shrimp & mussels. The beef udon soup wasn't anything special. Did not like that they make you pour the ingredients into the broth & not the other way around. This causes more splashing & most restaurants don't do this.
Good food with decent prices, although the portions seem to have gotten smaller recently. My boyfriend & I usually go for the creamy chicken Katsu & the Sake Don (salmon Donburi); we enjoy it every time. I also tried the creamy Yaki Udon with seafood, which was spicy but nonetheless, super yummy. The staff is very nice & courteous. The place seems to be very busy every time we go, so a reservation would be recommended if you don't want to wait in line.
Tried the chicken sandwich for lunch & seafood sundubu, the sundubu was a bit too spicy for my taste but the chicken sando was excellent!
