Review Summary

Reviews describe Imadake Izakaya as a lively, boisterous Japanese pub experience where the atmosphere is festive and loud, making it great for groups and celebrations but less ideal for quiet dates. The food is generally praised as tasty and varied, with standout ramen especially the kuromayu ramen and a wide range of small plates that are fun to share; some dishes are excellent while others are only average or lukewarm, and portions are often small for the price. Sake bombs and other cocktails are a recurring highlight, with many noting the ritual, the playful energy, and strong drinks. Service is described as friendly and efficient when not overwhelmed, though some visits report slow or inconsistent service during busy times and occasional billing hiccups. The decor and vibe are cozy yet noisy, with a Japanese pub feel and occasional drafts or seating concerns. The location near Atwater and the option to RSVP are frequently recommended, and many reviews commend variety of dishes such as octopus tartare, gyoza, karaage, and unique items like carbonara udon. Overall Imadake Izakaya appears to be a must for fans of vibrant nights out who want a wide menu and energetic atmosphere, while some guests wish for larger portions and quieter moments.

Back in my izakaya days 🏮, this was my favorite spot. I tried almost every izakaya in Montreal, & theirs was the best at the time.

Imadake Izakaya: A Vibrant Tapestry of Grilled Enchantment

Tucked within a leisurely stroll from the Atwater metro station, Imadake Izakaya beckons as an authentic haven of Japanese gastronomy & the convenience of abundant paid parking in close proximity ensures a seamless journey.

While a series of steps grace the entrance, it's worth noting that the absence of wheelchair accessibility is a limitation that gently underscores the spirited aura within.

As you step across the threshold, a symphony of boisterous patrons enraptured in their culinary indulgence welcomes you. The bustling energy weaves an intoxicating atmosphere that authentically embodies the izakaya experience.

Amidst this lively canvas, the establishment stands as a paragon of efficient staffing. Despite the joyful chaos, the service remains an embodiment of excellence. Our server gracefully navigated the dance of orders, ensuring our dining sojourn flowed seamlessly as we delighted in multiple rounds of exquisite fare.

The journey through flavors was nothing short of poetic. Grilled seafood & meats emerged as orchestrated symphonies of taste, each morsel perfected to achieve the zenith of succulence & flavor. The 1-liter Sapporo beer, cradled in a chilled, thick glass mug, retained its frosty allure-a small detail that speaks volumes about the meticulous care woven into every aspect.

The embrace of warm sake added an exquisite layer of comfort, a delightful elixir that kindled warmth within.

Imadake Izakaya radiates as a luminous star within Montreal's culinary constellation. It isn't just about the culinary offerings-it's an orchestration of ambiance, service, & flavors that elegantly dance together.

Every element of Imadake Izakaya is imbued with distinction, a testament to a commitment to excellence that resonates in every bite & sip. Amidst this orchestration, a reasonable price point underscores the dedication to offering an exceptional experience within easy reach.

In honor of its profound impact on both palate & spirit, Imadake Izakaya is unequivocally deserving of a well-earned five-star rating. As steadfast patrons, we eagerly anticipate the continuation of this enchanting culinary journey, savoring the vivacious experience that awaits with every visit.

Amazing food, probably my new favorite Izakaya in Montreal. Food was very fresh & tasty, we had the Okonomiyaki, ramen, takoyaki & Japanese fries. Very authentic feel to the place, the whole kitchen staff is Japanese & everyone welcomes you with a « irasshaimse » when you come in. Our waitress Min was a sweetheart & I recommend asking for her if you go 💕 restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but trust me it's worth a try. Will be back for sure!

This is the best izakaya downtown, the food is so delicious & has been consistently good since the opening! The atmosphere is also very festive.

Reminds me of Tokyo izakayas.

I read that this is one of the best izakayas in Montreal but that was not my experience at all. There wasn't anything authentic about the food & there was something off about every dish. It felt like amateur hour in the kitchen. We ordered a bunch of appetizers & ramen. The "okay" dishes were the shrimp mayo & yukke, though both lacked refinement. The shrimps were big & fried well, but the pieces of nuts were chunky & odd. The yukke was seasoned well but the strands of beef made it look like it had been put through a meat grinder without being cut properly. It was just weird to be eating long, thick stings of beef. Everything else went downhill from there. The karaage was over fried, dry & not juicy. The okonomiyaki was literally pancake batter with a few tiny pieces of tako - it tasted like a bunch of takoyaki flattened into a pancake shape. The gindara cod was cooked well, but it was such a small piece & the marinade was overly sweet with no other flavour. It felt so homecooked. The worst offender was the ramen. We waited so long for this that we weren't really hungry anymore. But this has got to be the worst ramen I've eaten in my life. The broth was so thick & heavy that it tasted more like a stew. The noodles were undercooked & tasted like spaghetti. The chashu slices did not taste fresh. Neither of us could eat more than a few bites because it was just so bad! Honestly, my experience here has scarred me from trying out other Japanese places in Montreal if this is considered one of the "best"...

A Wonderful Japanese Izakaya. Delicious food, variety of drink options, sake bombs, great atmosphere. Coat check at the front for easy sitting (chairs do not have backs but are very comfortable). All the staff are amazing. Cant wait to stop back next time I'm in town. Recommend!

My visit to Imadake Izakaya was frustratingly overshadowed by painfully slow service. Orders were taken at a snail's pace, & the wait for food was excruciating, with zero communication from the staff about the delays. Although the food was passable, the service was inexcusably sluggish, souring the entire experience. This restaurant needs to drastically improve its service speed or risk turning away more customers. I am highly disappointed & unlikely to return.

Proper izakaya, casual, efficient service. Cold beer, tasty dishes & a good playlist. Would recommend.

I'm from Japan, I know how Japanese food should taste. They have actual Japanese izakaya menu, I tried three dishes & nothing disappointed me. Servers are friendly & provide great service. Definitely recommend this place.

Great lively crowd, very fun to go in groups, & you have to try the saké bombs at least once for fun if not twice for repeat fun! Pricey markup on saké selection, but what restaurant doesn't on their wine menu nowadays... decent late night snack option if you want to do everything under the same roof, get well fed, a bit or more than a bit tipsy, & make a lot of noise in the middle of it all. There needs to be more competition with izakayas in montreal to bring down those wait lines. Guu & Zakkushi should definitely expand into Montreal to spread the love of good japanese food & hospitality.
