What a difference three years can make. This was my fourth visit to the restaurant, as it had been one of my favourites. I should have known something was up as I was able to book the same day (Friday) & there were empty tables throughout the night. The creativity of the food has really declined, making the majority tired & unimaginative- I did enjoy the beets & the final dessert with popcorn ice cream. I was honest regarding the dishes & thought it would have been nice if they had at least comped one glass of wine, considering the cost. Hopefully, the chef will review his old recipes & not try to make things so complicated with so many unnecessary ingredients that add nothing to the dish.
Edit: je suis retournée & j'ai repris le tasting végane & c'était franchement ridicule cette fois. Je suis partie en colère & affamée. Un bill de 400$ pour avoir littéralement reçu en service principal un DEMI PORTOBELLO avec de la sauce. Aucun des plats n'étaient réellement adaptables sans perdre sont intégrité. Ils n'auraient pas du accepté de faire le service végane s'ils n'ont rien a nous servir haha à ce prix la….tu cuisines quelque chose de plus je sais pas. Bref, je n'y reviendrai pas. Très déçue. J'ai du resouper en arrivant chez moi tellement que c'était peu de nourriture au final…juste des sauces & un peu de dessert presque. Aucun plats offert ou remboursement partiel. Je suis serveuse & j'aurais eu vrm honte de servir ça à leur place.

Attention : ce restaurant tente d'imposer des frais d'annulation de 35 $ par personne si vous annulez moins de 24 heures à l'avance. Or, cette politique est contraire à la loi québécoise, qui permet d'annuler jusqu'à 3 heures avant la réservation & limite les frais d'annulation à un maximum de 10 $ par personne. Informez-vous avant de réserver.
Big portions, maybe even a little too big for 7 courses. Notthe most common complaint in fine dining I must admit..
Menu based on fresh seasonal products, prepared creatively without trying too hard to look expensive. No random caviar or gold leaf. Chicken is always difficult to make interesting, they got it right.
The semi open kitchen remained surprisingly calm all evening. The chef moved around quietly, almost introverted, clearly focused on the task. Not The Bear or Gordon Ramsey.... The service was warm & casual. Wooden floors, modern metalwork on the walls & a relaxed atmosphere. Very Montréal.
The pacing was perhaps a little too relaxed at times, but overall an excellent evening.
J'ai adoré mon expérience chez l'Île flottante! Tout d'abord, le service était parfait, le personnel très gentil & à l'écoute avec une belle explication de chaque plat. On a même eu un accord cocktail & met qui était vraiment bien réalisé! J'ai aimé les plats qui ont été servis & la quantité était très bien, considérant les nombreux services. Je recommande de faire l'expérience!

Two small complaints that does not detract from this being one of the best meals you will have this year. (a) wine list is interesting but too short. (b) gin & tonic - tonic water was not premium.
I can't describe the food, it is not Fusion, it is not French, it is not Italian. I call it Elevated Montreal Tasting Menu cuisine.
Fantastic. If you haven't tried it, try it. If you have not been in years, go again. Ile Flottante is maintaining it's spot amongst Montreal's great restaurants.

The beetroot with caviar & herb foam was a total win tonight. I am usually the most interesting thing at the table anyway, so if you are a sharp guy who appreciates a good night out, you should find a way to say hello. I am worth the conversation.
