Took out katsu don with extra hire katsu for the second time.
1. Why would you even make the egg in katsu don scrambled? I was very shocked. It wasn't like that the first time so i dont know if the recipe changed or the kitchen staff was trolling.
2. The katsu sauce has too much plum flavour to the point where i couldnt eat.
So much worse than the first time. Never visiting again but the quality of the ingredient itself was good, so i will still leave 4star.

Small & cozy Japanese restaurant in a corner of China town.
Food is SO GOOD, worth the wait. Portion is generous. KATSU is must try.View more
I went for lunch since I was craving tonkatsu. I ordered the salmon salad which had large pieces of marinated salmon which were very tasty & it was a very generous portion that can easily be shared by 2 people. The rosu katsu meal was exactly what I was expecting, a large, juicy piece of pork loin that had a nice crispy exterior. I enjoyed it with the wasabi & the salt. It was delicious. Served with thinly sliced cabbage, miso soup & rice. Service was very friendly. It's a great place & I will be backView more
I finally decided to try this restaurant & my only regret was not going in sooner. The pork was tender & so tasty & the curry was really good too, not too thick not too liquid. Will definitely come back to try other things & eat more katsu.View more
Loooooved the food! Can't wait to go back for more Katsu! Arigatou gozaimasu!View more
Curry rosu katsudon was some of the best Japanese curry I've ever had! Katsu is delicious with good portions.View more
Unassuming yet refreshing Japanese restaurant serving something new (that isn't sushi nor ramen). The menu primarily revolves around their katsu; I'd recommend the Katsu Sando to truly try the pork in all its glory. Probably the thickest whilst also being the juiciest piece of pork I've had. The wasabi mayo is a nice touch. Everything tastes fresh & high quality because of the limited menu. A small nitpick would be that the rice they serve isn't short grain. Oh & they actually serve real grated wasabi!View more
The best katsu I've ever had. The mushroom soup is also very deliciousView more
The portion's very generous ! I really loved the taste & balance of the sauce that they put on the tempuras.
The spicy salmon for entree is also big serving so I recommend ordering it to share!
The katsu was not dry & the curry sauce was very rich & nice.View more
Nice little japanese restaurant located in a quiet alley in Chinatown. Seating is limited but the food is very nice. The menu is not that extensive as well. Food is not too pricey & is surely filling. I tried the Menchi Katsu & Hiru Katsu Udon. The Menchi Katsu was okayish, but the Hiru Katsu Udon was delicious. The udon had an amazing texture & the curry sauce was very flavourful. They even give out a creamy mushroom soup in the beginning, which is absolutely delicious. Would surely want to visit again & try the other dishes they offer.View more
Nice gem in Chinatown & one of the best katsu in town if not in all of Canada. The service is nice & friendly both times I visited in November & recently in March. The person working there was welcoming & I appreciated chatting with them when we left. Food is great, the portions are ample & the price is good. Highly recommended spot.View more
First time to try, ordered ten don & katsu don to go. They are good. They have variety of tempura 🍤, seaweed, eggplants, 🎃 pumpkin & lotus(i think). No scallop on the Lunch set. Still great value & good portion for me. Pork katsu is on the meaty side, but soft. 👍🏻View more
Katsu was really juicy & tender ! Probably the best in town! Sake don (salmon bowl) was decentView more
Service attentionné & très bon katsu & tempura!View more
Great service with amazing quality & authentic Japanese food. Best Katsu I've had in a while & definitely the best one in Montreal!View more
We came here twice on our trip to Montreal. Everything about this place is fantastic! We had the Curry Katsu, the Katsudon, the Ten Don & the Katsu Sando, & every dish was just as authentic as we had on our trip to Japan in November! All the compliments to the Chef & all staffView more
Cute small restaurant vibes. Loved their assortment of sauces & plating of their rosu katsu. Came with a yummy side of miso soup.View more
Hoshi in Montreal's Chinatown is a delight! The Tempura Udon was loaded with crispy shrimp tempura, savory tare sauce, & a perfect soft-boiled egg-pure comfort in a bowl. The katsu don with tender pork, scrambled egg, & fresh green onions was equally amazing. Great flavors, cozy vibe, & friendly service. A must-visit!View more
Found about this place not that long ago. The food is great, so much so that my partner wants to come back to try out everything else. Creamy soup is offered at the start, I enjoyed it. Then entrées of Menchi Katsu & Spicy Tuna Salad are also tasty with the avocado on both. Then, I went for Hire Katsu Curry Udon while my partner went for Katsudon. Yeah, I really need to go back again when I feel the hunger 🤤
Note: Spicy Tuna Salad spiciness is from the slaw beneath the few tuna slices. If you can't handle spicy, I'd suggest not to or bring someone that can handle it & willing to take it from you 😅View more
Excellent Katsu. Just as good as what I used to eat in Japan. 100% recommendedView more
Room for improvement. It was the dinner rush but even then the food took longer than expected to come. Curry was good but katsu seem too dark in color.View more
We went to Montreal for a quick weekend trip, & I had high hopes for Hoshi! We got the fried pork meatball appetizer, ten don & the curry katsu. The ten don was good, it could use a bit more rice at the bottom. It had 3 shrimps, 1 scallop, an egg, fried nori, sweet potato & I think radish? Curry katsu wasn't my favourite, it was a bit dry, & the curry was extremely heavy on onions. I prefer my curry smooth. Serving was generous, we ended up taking the leftovers home. I'm usually used to katsu having coleslaw, & sauce & grinded sesame on the side. The fried meat balls were dry & a bit flavourless. There's dots of sauce on the side to make the plating look nice, & it was, however, I feel like sauce on the side in a separate container would have been better. The avocado at the bottom was a bit out of place. The restaurant is cozy but it's too tight in between the tables. It did take ~30-40 mins for our food to come out though. Not my favourite place, but for a ten don fix, I would go here specifically for that!View more
Very good! Definitely the best Hire Katsu I've had outside Japan.View more
Hoshi was an okay experience. My partner & I came after seeing an ad on Instagram. We started off with complimentary mushoom soup that was a great way to beat the cold. I ordered the Katsu-don, & my partner got the katsu. The katsu were as thick as the pictures showed. It was crunchy & maybe a bit overdone as it was slightly chewy. I personally would've liked the cuts to be thinner if anything because I value the crunchy outside. The egg didn't seem to be seasoned, maybe intentionally, but the sauce with the rice was really good. My partner's comments were that he also found the katsu to be a bit tough & would've liked more of the seasoning on the side. There was also a lot of salad. Overall, this is a cute hole in the wall Japanese restaurant that really tries to give authentic Japanese food. Personally, I don't see myself coming here too often, but it was good.View more
good food & really feels authentic. Best katsu in town.View more
Great, well-priced food. Might be the best katsu I ate in mtl. Issue with the door not closing which made the place colder - hopefully it's fixed. Not worth dinging a star over itView more
I dont usually leave reviews, but this is the best katsu I had in Montreal hands down. This place is new but they definitely know how to make good Japanese cuisine. Great service as well. Would definitely come again!!!View more
Excellent katsu! Best I've had in the city & best tempura too. The batter is light & crisp, the pork is moist & perfectly cooked. The ingredients for the tendon is high quality & also perfectly cooked. A must-try for sure! The space is quite small so it might be a good idea to go during off peak hours. Their area in chinatown is a bit hidden so I hope everyone who hears about it will go! Disclaimer: My meal was comped.View more
