Always tasty, classic steakhouse fare. The New York cheesecake is the best in town. Only downside is the price, somehow $35 for a side plate of mushrooms for 2.View more

Been wanting to come here for years just to realize it was pretty much just an expensive steakhouse.
Food & service was great! I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but for the price I was expecting that the place would've had a much more intimate atmosphere. Most tables were very much close to each other to maximize space (a wheelchair wouldn't be able to pass around as easily). & the music was also slightly loud.
Totally fine to come for a special occasion.View more

With the new ownership & menu Gibby's has lost its Lustre. The menu is not nearly as varied, the salad has slipped in quality & the service is not the same experienced crew that I loved. The dessert was actually stale. I would recommend RibnReef as the premier Steakhouse. I would only go back if you are looking for the old Montreal experienceView more

Nice ambiance steakhouse near Old Town Montreal. It's an old converted horse stable. Very cozy with fireplaces. My steak dish was okay but not as impressive as I had expected. Very good wine list & attentive service.

L'ambiance est unique, le service excellent & quoi dire de la nourriture! La salade gibbys, buratta, cowboy steak & la patate toute garnie débordaient de saveur! Notre serveuse s'est assurée qu'on ne manquait de rien, du début à la fin, & a même pris la peine de nous prendre en photo polaroid. Gibby is one of the best steakhouse in Montreal, they offer high-quality meat cuts, the Rockefeller oysters, & my best dish there is the garlic snail, & when you take the bread & dip it into the garlic sauce. I highly recommend this place.View more

We had dinner at the wonderful old-school Montreal steakhouse & were truly impressed with the evening. It is very much a throwback to the old steakhouse style restaurants & they pull it off extremely well. Montrealers told us it was great but expensive & they were right on both.View more

Gibby's is expensive. The service was excellent(Nancy) the food was great. But the place is perhaps too casual for the price you pay. The wine list was shockingly simple, with wine prices at around 2.5X retail value - which is what you would expect from a good Steakhouse - but the choices were boring. Either they underestimate their clientèles tastes or I over-estimate what somebody spending 💰 expects from a wine list. For an above average steak & a night out Gibby's is a certainly great quality but not great value. The Keg is where I would go for a night out surrounded by people in jeans & T-shirts who aren't that into wine.View more

I gave Gibby's 3 chances in the last 3 years & they've disappointed every time. This is a restaurant that relies very heavily on its history & "pedigree" & caters mostly to unsuspecting American tourists looking for a decent steakhouse in Old Montreal & Montreal natives who are clinging on to a relic from their past. The food in unquestionably not worth the price. The steaks are so chewy, that I'd recommend ordering them medium-well because they become more tender the longer they're cooked. The appetizers & sides are average;the Romanian style sausages were hard & tasteless, & I know because my wife is Romanian, & the side of rice they serve tastes as good as a greasy Greek dive. The service is friendly but slow & clumsy, despite the uniforms & overall "look" & for your money you're better off at any French restaurant nearby that will cook you a much better steak for less money...sorry Gibbys, I really tried my best!View more

It was my first time visiting this steakhouse. The rib steak I had was well cooked & seasoned, I would order that again. However, I did find my baked potatoe to be a bit on the dry side, but it still tasted good. Overall, my disappointment comes from the lack of attentive service from the wait staff. We were a large group & felt like the service could have been sharper. For example, the wrong dishes being served to some, errors for a number of people with their bills at the end of the night & even the way our drink orders were taken (we had to ask them) & how long we had to wait for it. I expect better from this kind of steakhouse for their wait staff service.View more

I've been going to Gibby's for my birthday going on 8 years now. Unlike most other steakhouses, you get all the trimmings with your meal. I love this restaurant but since it was bought by another company, there are some minor differences that changed the experience for me. • they can only serve the pickles, bacon bits & bread once you place your food order. ( we were waiting for the rest of the party to order the food but had ordered drinks, we were kind of hungry so waiting wasn't fun) • the staff don't get their tips like they used to so it wasn't the nicest news to hear since they work hard. • the staff feel like their new uniforms are not as clean cut because their arms are exposed. They used to have long sleeves & it brought extra class to the establishment. (They are 100% right. • the drink prices skyrocketed. • I don't know what they changed in the crab cakes, it wasn't the best. • I have 8 years of pictures they take for your birthday & the new ones they took ... it's so small. I put it next to my other ones & it's so sad. The rest was great but don't change a good thing.View more

We are visiting Montreal with friends & Gibby's was recommended by locals. The restaurant has so much charm & you can tell it is loved by all ages of guests. The service was wonderful, Diane, our server, was attentive, friendly & patient when we took our time ordering. We all ordered various steak entrees & felt they were prepared perfectly. It's not often you get an actual "rare" steak when you ask for it so I was thrilled. Gibby's is a proper steakhouse, they let the meats speak for themselves. However the black pepper mushroom sauce on the "Diane" was really good too! The blue cheese salad was phenomenal & loved the Monte Carlo potato. As we were all quite full from the pickles, bread & steak entrees we decided to split a sorbet dessert. It was enough for our party of 4 to have a few tastes & feel satisfied. Enjoy an upscale dining experience in a historic building which used to be a stable. This classic steakhouse features your typical cuts of steak with optional seafood additions for surf & turf. Wine selection is good & the service was exceptional so expect to be pampered. Alejandro was very attentive & kind. The homemade bread & the kosher pickles were great. Staff: friendly & polite Food: really good, great for the price but both of our rib steaks were overcooked! If you're a steakhouse, you need to be able to serve a steak at the right temperature!! So happy to leave this review. My ex-boyfriend & I had a reservation at Gibby's & it was such an experience. We arrived, they were extremely busy & I think reservations weren't organized too well, but nonetheless, we were seated & greated by our server Christine. She was incredible, fast, busy, hustling but really incredible. Definitely ask for her service! The food was amazing. Very large portions. Pricey but worth it.. well done Gibby's. Will absolutely recommend it as the best steakhouse in Montreal.View more

I have been to some of the finest steakhouses in North America (yes that is only my opinion) but they would include Bern's inTampa, Golden Steer in Las Vegas, Gibsons in Chicago, Charlie's in Orlando, Peter Luger in NYC, etc. Expectations were high. Ambiance did not disappoint. Selection was promising. Ordered the Gibby's cut. Looked perfect, but on 1st few bites it was obvious to me it was slightly overcooked. I would have managed, but before I could even draw attention to the waitress, the manager (his name is Adil) was at our table asking if everything was ok. I mentioned it was a bit more overcooked than I was used to & without hesitation or question he asked if he could replace it for me. I said it was fine. He insisted & said it was his responsibility to ensure they offered their best. Promptly replaced, it was perfect. No questions asked, no guilt involved, they made it right. To me, that separates the elite experiences from even the best. Attention to making the evening perfect is what Gibbys does exceptionally well. Enjoy the experience. Relish in the service.
