The last of my favourite restaurants finally has fallen. Once my first choice for birthdays or any celebration but now I will definitely think twice before going back.
Service left a lot to be desired. Waitress seemed bothered anytime a request was made, making a big deal about having to'go down to the kitchen'. Pickles & bread took forever to arrive, along with taking our order. Sat nearly 30 minutes before we were served & another 20 before any food hit the table.
Food was good but not excellent. Prices have increased but the quality has gotten worse. Steak was not cooked correctly.
Overall not the experience I expect for $100+ a head. Very disappointed & I am sad to say that I will be looking elsewhere for a high quality dining experience.
Edit: Management responded to my concerns promptly, assured me that changes are going to be made at the restaurant & offered some compensation. Will see how my next experience is & update the review.
Edit 2: Went back tonight & my experience was much better, while there were still some issues with the kitchen they certainly made up for it. Service was much better & I would definitely return.View more

This steak house has Valet parking.
Easy to get a table without a reservation.
Warm & comfortable ambience. Just lovely. Something that is missing from most restaurants these days.
The service was good but not what it used to be twenty years ago.
The warm bread & butter are delicious. The bread is a fluffy white & on the sweet side. Watch these, as they can derail your appetite.
The pickles are good. Crunchy & flavorful.
Both the house & blue cheese salads were good. Very generous with the salad dressing. Nice touch of croutons, real bacon bits & fresh pepper.
As always the lemon sorbet, to clean the palette, was perfect!
We all loved our filet mignon & steak. The Montee Carlo baked potato is delicious. The asparagus & pepper are not worth belly space.
The Oysters Rockefeller were ok. For the price I would have preferred to try something else.
The French fries aren't bad.
Both the sauce Diane & the Peppercorn ROCK!
The crème brûlée was good. I appreciate the vanilla custard. It is not phenomenal but it is good.
The gentlemen at valet were great.
It is not an inexpensive restaurant. However, unlike many other restaurants, included in the price of your meal you get a salad & potato.View more

Visited Gibby's after over 20 years. The service was very friendly but painfully slow taking over 3 hours to be served. Although busy, the restaurant was not full.
The escargot were minute, the Gibby salad was excellent & our steaks were cooked to perfection. The price was outrageous. There are better & less expensive steak restaurants in Montreal. Caters mainly to the tourist clientele. Would not return.View more

Delicious food & great service in between courses. We were never waiting for a long time.
They had a great way of adding a few little things to make the experience better. Pickles with the bread, a small lemon sorbet in between appetizers & the main course to clear the pallet, & mint chocolates at the end to have you leaving refreshed.
They didn't know the family / a la cart style we were looking for (different steaks cut for each man to try on their plate) but they learned 😏
Would recommend the Burrata, dipping the bread in the escargot flavoring, the sirloin, the lamb chops, &/or the beef Wellington as a must.View more

Such a classic. They servers are so… feeling nostalgic at the level of service that's not found anywhere else. They make it feel like you're their only guests.
Ok so here's the thing. It looks like expensive prices (steaks for example) but there's a lot that comes with it. The appetizers, either a salad or a wedge. Try the wedge!!!! It's a meal on its own but soooooo good. Never seen lettuce this size. Also on the table, bacon, pickles & bread as soon as you get there.
Steaks were awesome as you'd expect, perfect cooking & lots of choices of sides.
2nd time we come here for a birthday, if you say it ahead of time, you'll actually get a birthday cake.
Also fun to watch them do their show with alcoholic coffees & pouring with the flame.
Of course the restaurant is gorgeous & so classy.
Go there! Must visit if you're in Montreal, everyone knows this place !View more

Me & my husband actually visited here over a year ago but l couldn't not leave a review for this place! We visited Montreal as part of our Canada honeymoon travelling over from England & this was one of the first reservations we made after reading about it! We fully enjoyed the steak experience & all the food in each course was exceptional. My husband enjoyed a margherita (one of the best he's had!), & myself possibly the biggest glass of prosecco I'd seen! Cynthia who looked after us was second to none, & even got a polaroid photo of us after hearing we were on our honeymoon. Thank you Gibby's for a brilliant experience.View more

We have been to Montreal many times, but this was our first visit to Gibbys. I can easily say that this is now my favorite restaurant ever! The food, the service, the atmosphere, everything was perfect!
We ordered the grilled shrimp for the appetizer, & it was delicious. We loved the wedge salad with blue cheese & our steaks were perfectly cooked. All I can say is, come hungry because they feed you well.
My only regret is that I didn't come to Gibbys every time I had been to Montreal in the past!View more

Beautiful old place with lots of character. Staff were very nice & the service was impressive most of the time but they sadly weren't on top of filling our waters even though we went later & the restaurant was pretty empty. The food was very good overall, best part was the steak, well season & grilled however I had to send back my steak due to it being overcooked, asked for medium rare & got it medium well, luckily they were quick to rectify this! Overall, the experience was very good! For the price & class of the place I did expect a bit more though, would go again & recommend!View more

The service & atmosphere are stellar. I went for my birthday & got a complementary cake.
The food: I've had the filet mignon & beef wellington. They were both amazing, cooked to perfection & seasoned wondefully. The only complaint I have is the borderlaise sauce for the beef wellington was too sage-heavy, but the steak, duxelle, & puff pastry were so good sauce was not necessary. The iceberg salad is one of the best salads I ever had, & you can get extra bacon to your liking. The mocktails are sweet & flavorful. The fries were okay, not much seasoning but cooked perfectly.

Nice ambiance steakhouse near Old Town Montreal. It's an old converted horse stable. Very cozy with fireplaces. My steak dish was okay but not as impressive as I had expected. Very good wine list & attentive service.

L'ambiance est unique, le service excellent & quoi dire de la nourriture! La salade gibbys, buratta, cowboy steak & la patate toute garnie débordaient de saveur! Notre serveuse s'est assurée qu'on ne manquait de rien, du début à la fin, & a même pris la peine de nous prendre en photo polaroid. Après avoir fait plusieurs steakhouse à Montréal, je peux dire sans équivoque que mon expérience au gibbys est de loin la meilleure & la plus mémorable! C'est une vieille cuisine qui tourne des steaks sur un grill & qui enfourne des patates.
La salade maison est ridicule, ma fille de 8 ans fait mieux.

45 minutes d'attente pour une surlonge de steak, la salade Gibbys est embarrassante… trop originale & sans saveur. Les prix sont ridicules pour le qualité du steak; sans goût & goûte le brûlé. L'accompagnement du steak est à désirer.

Very tasty & well presented food (we had the Gibby's salad & the cow-boy's steak for two). The espresso martinis were delicious, the service very attentive, professional & friendly & the vibe is very cozy.
The perfect place for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends or family!

The Monte Carlo potato was delicious. Steak IGA quality. Very tough & fatty for a New York strip. Bread at the beginning average grocery store quality. Pickles whatever. Blue cheese wedge was kind of tasteless. Our waiter was super nice. He forgot a few things but the ambiance was so warm & cozy that it wasn't a big deal. He was also very polite about it. Was a disappointing experience. We've heard a lot of good things about Gibby's & had high expectations, but I don't think we will ever return. The dining room has nice ambience but it was cold since the restaurant is old & does not have good isolation or maybe the heaters are not powerful enough. the server has changed our table & made us sit next to the heater which is nice. The bathroom is very dated & doesn't seem to match the price we are paying for dinner. The major disappointment is the steaks. We are 4 so we ordered 2sirloin, 1 rib steak & 1 fillet mignon. All of them are under seasoned, dry, & like rubber. The steaks are pretty thick & we ordered either rare or medium rare. I can see the meat were cooked uneven. They also seem to be cold & the plate was not heated. Our server was nice & she changed my boyfriend's dish for another cut of meat because he didn't like his plate at all, but the replacement was also mediocre, blend & rubbery. It was my parents who is treating us so we didn't want to appear too picky. When I told the waitress our steak has not taste she brought more spices & asked us to put salt on it. I don't think i should season my own steak at the restaurant but I guess she tried the best she can do. The service was the only thing that kind of matches the price of the restaurant.View more

We dined at Gibbys during a family trip to Montreal. After making reservations months in advance, (we live in the U.S), Gibbys was absolutely the highlight a of our trip. My parents have been to Gibbys before during their anniversary & insisted we visit again due to the outstanding steak & incredible atmosphere. However, we were extremely underwhelmed by the service. Server did not offer any help with the cocktail menu as we wanted to order things that appeared to be "not possible" (we ordered a Moscow mule, no suggestions of anything similar, just a "no"). One of our diners is a picky eater, we called before to see if rice could be served as a side, which they insisted it could. Our server denied this being a possibility & didn't offer to check due to the obvious misunderstanding. He also got a few things wrong with our order & gave excuses as to how "this is better or fancier". Our experience of him was rude & condescending as he was insistent that we need to know how he was charging us, "this will be extra, I'm charging you for that…". Also they were out of the kabobs which is not the servers fault but another unfortunate part of the experience as it is my mom's favorite dish. Overall this was very disappointing as we LOVE this restaurant considering the price we expect an award winning experience or at the very least a server who is kind & attentive.View more
