My first experience here. The ambiance was very pleasant. My waiter Alessandro was a nice & helpful person. The octopus was good but I have experienced much better at 40 westt. The rib steak was up to par & the side were simply delicious. How when I attend a restaurant at pay over 300$ for a couple , I would expect that any waiter pour the wine & water. At no time did anyone pour it. Very disappointed in the service. But I did tip myself for pouring it. Lol Whenever I attend a classy restaurant, the waiters usually share that responsibility. Another waiter saw me pouring the wine & never offered. Sad. That was my only negative experience. Hope the owner reads this post & corrects this because I really like this place. Note: the people that can destroy your business are your employees.View more

It was my first time visiting this steakhouse. The rib steak I had was well cooked & seasoned, I would order that again. However, I did find my baked potatoe to be a bit on the dry side, but it still tasted good. Overall, my disappointment comes from the lack of attentive service from the wait staff. We were a large group & felt like the service could have been sharper. For example, the wrong dishes being served to some, errors for a number of people with their bills at the end of the night & even the way our drink orders were taken (we had to ask them) & how long we had to wait for it. I expect better from this kind of steakhouse for their wait staff service.View more

Great selection of steaks. Well executed dishes. Rack of lamb was a delight! & OMG the carpaccio! The truffles scent on the carpaccip was so aromatic! One of the best we've ever had. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a good ol' fashion steakhouse.View more

A true 5 star steak house experience in Montreal! An absolute must! The experience starts off in a beautiful heritage building in Old Port of Montreal. You will find helpful staff & white tablecloth tables. We came here with a large party so we ordered almost everything on the menu to try. The cowboy steak is a true show stopper. Flavorful, well served & not chewy. Perfect to share. The mains come with a salad, a trou normand & side (Monte Carlo potato is a must) Beef wellington was so well done! Flaky on the outside, tender meat on the inside. The sauce that came with it was also excellent. For dessert, the chocolate Gibby's is excellent. Like a chocolate hazelnut mousse with a nice textured layer in there. Staff was attentive & knew the menu well. Highly recommend!View more

Service was rushed right from the start. They were very busy so the minute we sat down they went over the menu with us before we were even able to order a drink. They also charge you a fee to split meals & have an issue with chopping a salad for you or cooking the steak more than med well. But mostly it was the rushed feeling we got from the minute we sat down. Our waiter was very nice just moving at a million miles a minute. It didn't feel relaxed & enjoyable like we had hoped.View more

Sadly they botched the service. Sat at 9, steak showed up at midnight. Food was meh. Half our party left when they learned the kitchen hadn't even placed their food order two hours in. & to top it off I've made better ribeye at home. It was sad as this place was good. We are visiting Montreal with friends & Gibby's was recommended by locals. The restaurant has so much charm & you can tell it is loved by all ages of guests. The service was wonderful, Diane, our server, was attentive, friendly & patient when we took our time ordering. We all ordered various steak entrees & felt they were prepared perfectly. It's not often you get an actual "rare" steak when you ask for it so I was thrilled. Gibby's is a proper steakhouse, they let the meats speak for themselves. However the black pepper mushroom sauce on the "Diane" was really good too! The blue cheese salad was phenomenal & loved the Monte Carlo potato. As we were all quite full from the pickles, bread & steak entrees we decided to split a sorbet dessert. It was enough for our party of 4 to have a few tastes & feel satisfied. We went to this resto with high expectations, to have the best steak in Montreal! The place is amazing, the waiter top top but the manager ZERO! My bf & I ordered 2 steaks (medium) mine was perfectly cooked but his was medium well/well done... When the waiter nicely asked the manager to come see us, the manager said "I'm not going to argue with you about what medium is or not". Our steaks were clearly different, & in any case, there is no reason to be rude & condescending when your customers are trying to have a great night at a very famous steak house.. in summary, sadly, I won't be going back!View more

I do not understand the good reviews. I ordered the French onion soup & ribeye steak medium. Server forgot to punch in the French onion soup, & my steak was overcooked. Service was extremely slow. The restaurant itself looks old & dungee, tables were not steady & slanted. Judging by the extremely high price of the food, they have no excuse for the terrible service & subpar food. Enjoy an upscale dining experience in a historic building which used to be a stable. This classic steakhouse features your typical cuts of steak with optional seafood additions for surf & turf. Wine selection is good & the service was exceptional so expect to be pampered. Alejandro was very attentive & kind. The homemade bread & the kosher pickles were great. Montreal is known for its culinary excellence, our experience was far from it. On recommendation, we reserved. The location & ambience were lovely, we looked forward to the experience. I'm not sure what the problem was with our seating, there seemed to be ample space, however 2 waiters continuously bumped our chairs when going by, not just a few times but over & over. My husband ordered beef carpaccio to start, which they did not have. When it came to dessert, he ordered crème brûlée, which they didn't have either. My beef wellington boasted approximately 2 tbsp of duxelle, I took the pastry off because I found it hard to believe they would send it out of the kitchen like that & sure enough the duxelle was almost non-existent. We overheard the table next to ours order a second bottle of wine & were told there was no more of that brand, so they would have to order something else. It can also be noted that our server seemed to go out of his way to be rude. Each time I thanked him he would just walk away as I was speaking to him, he seemed unhappy that we were there. Not having ample product, repeatedly banging into customers & overall rude service, I have had a hard time choosing which steak house has been my favourite during our travels, Gibbys has made it very easy to determine which was the worstView more

Staff: friendly & polite Food: really good, great for the price but both of our rib steaks were overcooked! If you're a steakhouse, you need to be able to serve a steak at the right temperature!!
