Gibbys was sold last year & subsequently food preparation, quality & menu selections have declined. Prices have increased dramatically. The salad's not what is used to be; my shrimps were tough & my wife's chicken kiev was overcooked & burnt. The service was good, although not quite what we were used to. One can tell the restaurant has changed management. Sadly & regretfully we will not be returning this year.View more
Enjoy an upscale dining experience in a historic building which used to be a stable. This classic steakhouse features your typical cuts of steak with optional seafood additions for surf & turf. Wine selection is good & the service was exceptional so expect to be pampered. Alejandro was very attentive & kind. The homemade bread & the kosher pickles were great. The steaks were pretty good & the house salad was delicious.View more
Clam chowder was great, salad was great, bread was great, asparagus was great, Monte Carlo potatoe was dry & lifeless, shrimp cocktail shrimps were poorly prepared (over cooked) - rubbery & tough.View more
One the best places to try good steak. If you are hungry I suggest the RIP eye steak(gibby's cut) which is large & juicy. Try the salad with blue cheese... 👌🏻View more
I had been curious about this restaurant for a while after seeing many great reviews. The exterior & interior atmosphere of the restaurant are superb. The staff are kind, friendly, quick in their work, & very attentive. Before the steak, a salad & lemon sherbet for palate cleansing are served. The steak is so large that it overflows from the plate! The cooking is also perfect! This is my favorite restaurant that I visit every time I travel to Montreal.View more
its always good to come eat here, also loved the one in Saint Sauveur especially in Winter. Everything was good even kids liked & ate some of the salad. Grilled salmon is a safe choice for kids. Carré D'agneau Grilled & Steak & Frites are also perfect. Crab cake & sautéed shrimps with garlic are awesome for appetizers/starters.View more
We were at Gibbys for my mother's birthday. Our server Mourad was amazing, attentive, patient & always smiling. The included salads, baked potatoes, fresh bread & birthday cake were all delicious. The Beef Wellington & steaks were good. This wasn't our first time dining here & as usual the ambience was inviting & warm.View more
Feb. 2024 - it seems like every 2 years, we come to this historic establishment for a great Gibby's dinner. You can never go wrong with the food. I've been eating here for over 50 years, & it is consistently excellent. The salad is ample in quantity, the steaks are perfectly cooked & the sides, vegetables & potatoes are always amazing. This was, however, the first time that I was NOT impressed with the service. Yes, it was busy, but there's more that enough staff. Forks went flying, tea, coffee, & chocolate mints were thrown on the table, & I never received my birthday cake that Gibby's was so famous for. It's unfortunate. I was so looking forward to it. When my husband called to make the reservation, they even asked for my name & how it was spelled. Because I was so unhappy my husband went to maitre d' & mentioned the fact. They were nice about it & said that they had a cake mentioned in the reservation. They will give it to us to take home. Ten minutes later, the waiter says there is an issue, they don't have a cake but her will give us 2 pieces of a dessert to take home. I got a box. Not sure what's inside, but I will let you know once I get home. Well, inside were two pieces of Blueberry cheese cake & 2 containers of blueberry coulis Thank you Gibby's. Customer satisfaction all the way. Feb 2022 - Another birthday was spent at Gibby's Montreal. I had the Petit Filet Mignon & a Lobster Tail with the Monte Carlo potato. Never disappointing. The lobster tail was small but excellent. My husband ordered the Gibby's cut 22oz steak with fries. He ordered it medium, but it came medium-rare. It was a little too blue for him, so he returned it. This is now the second time we have eaten here & had to return food. The waiter was nice about the issue, & it was immediately corrected. The birthday cake was great as usual. It's a vanilla cake with whip cream & fruit in the center. Don't forget the pic they give you to take home. It may be for some a bit pricey but well worth it. It is a good value because everything is included. All mains come with salad, potato, & veggies.View more
Had not been in a while & was really looking forward to dinner. Salad was pretty much iceberg salad from a bag. Steak was good. Three skinny little pieces of asparagus was pathetic. Oysters Rockefeller were ok but seriously the quality was not there & definitely not for that price. Many better nearby options including moishes. Hope they improve but I won't be back unless things change.View more
The oysters were honestly amazing. We preferred the fresh ones but the Rockefeller were really good as well. They give you warm bread, pickles & bacon at first & all the mains come with soup/salade & a side dish. We weren't fans of the Gaspacho (we found it was a little bit too spicy & trust us we love spicy food) but the salade was good! Our waitress was great & on point with everything. They even have a cake included with the meals if you guys are celebrating a birthday which was really good & not too sweet like you would think. They also have a valet service at the front so you don't need to break your head with the parking. The place itself is also very cute & cosy!View more
My wife & I were celebrating a very special anniversary, so we decided to dine at Gibbys, & it turned out to be a great choice. We have been satisfied customers for over 50 years & have had some very memorable meals during that time period. Gibbys is located in a historic building built during the 18th & 19th centuries & there is an incredible feeling of stepping into Montreal's past which only adds to Gibbys ambiance. Now for the most important part of our meal, the food. We both started with a generous portion of Gibbys mixed salad. My wife chose a delicious Grilled Salmon & I ordered a thick & juicy Filet Mignon Steak cooked to perfection. Both plates were garnished with a Monte Carlo Baked Potato & asparagus. Because it was our special occasion the waitress brought to our table a beautiful cake for dessert, & I also have to add the service was splendid throughout our dinner. We left Gibbys with a full belly & a happy heart & with another memorable meal to remember.View more
Beek Wellington with the blue cheese wedge salad as a starter. I'm still thinking about those.View more
Ambience was top notch & just the experience I was looking for visiting Montréal from Texas! The food was outstanding, everything I had was delicious which included the Petit Filet Mignon, broiled shrimp, Gibby's salad, the Monte Carlo potato & the key lime pie! I definitely overdid it, but it was worth it. I hate that I can't remember my server's name but she was excellent & very attentive, even when it got busy. She had just come from vacationing in Jamaica if that helps! She was so kind & friendly. Thank you for making my last meal in Montréal unforgettableView more
Went with a group of 10 on Saturday evening. Don't waste your money here. This place is not what it was 15 years ago. First time in my life I've not eaten more than two bites of a piece of meat given to me. Steak en croute was not edible, overcooked & far from tender, with a very strange texture. Left the entire lump of meat there except for the two pieces, & not once asked if everything was ok (due to the fact that there's a second service, everything is rushed). Rice undercooked as well. Salad was passable, but barely. Everything is so timed that three other groups had their birthdays sang right at same time/one after another, candles burned out before could blow them out. & they offer to take a group picture but don't take the time to tell you that two people aren't in the frame.
There are sooooo many places in Montreal where you can get a better meal with better service.
Having heard many positives about Gibby's I finally had a chance to visit. Very rustic & charming inside. The female attire should be updated though. I'm sure they would be much happier.
I ordered the Gibby's cut ribeye with a side of lobster tail. My friend ordered the same but with the scampi side. She shared with her daughter.
Dinner started with free pickles & a great loaf of bread followed by a very a tasty salad. Other option were a also available (see web menu). After our salad, a small portion of sorbet was served to cleanse the pallet. A nice touch.
The steaks were served & they were done exactly as order. My friend loved her steak while I & her daughter found the steak just average. It tasted a little bland. It was not a melt in you mouth rich steak that I'm accustomed to from a well marbled rib eye.
While I'm glad to have the Gibby's experience (great service), Gibby's will not be the my first choice when I get a craving for a good ribeye.
Completing my touring of Montreal finest steakhouses. This time, dinner at Gibby's, an institution that I have not visited since 2009. In 2009, when I first visited Gibby's, I had not much experience with steakhouses & I was very impressed at that time. Years later, I have tried many steakhouses not only in Canada, but also in the US & in other countries where beef is as revered as in the US. The reason I am writing this is because I do not think that Gibby's is bad. They are doing things the same way they used to, but I believe that I am not impressed by it anymore only because my taste has evolved. So Yes, my rib eye was cooked to requested doneness, but no it's no more one that seduces me because nowadays my ideal rib eye steak is the like of a corn-finished 40 days dry aged Black Angus, A 40 days wet aged USDA prime, bone-in, etc.. which are clearly not what was offered on this dinner (this boneless rib eye steak was firmer, had less fat distribution, less expressive meat flavor ...but again, compared ..to what i idealize as great today ). So less impressed, indeed, but only because my taste has switched to something else, NOT because it is bad! & yes, if you start comparing to some other hot steakhouses, well no it is not playing in the same league as it is not its purpose neither. Still, it's a generous steakhouse: nice warm bread, palate cleanser, pickles of great quality, plenty of salad did accompany my rib eye. The only thing that i can't put on the back of the evolution of my palate is this : the wine service...leaving a glass of Pinot noir on my table without showing the bottle to me, without pre-tasting NO & NO! You serve me my glass of Pinot Noir while I haven't finished my other glass of sparkling wine, again..NO! & what about the year of that PN? Its description (region, etc) There's no excuse for that.
