Display Allsteak(226) gibbs(72) salad(57) gibbys(57) steakhouse(44) recommend(39) wine(32) quality(30) wellington(30)I recently dined at Gibby's & had a rather disappointing experience. While the service initially started off well, it significantly deteriorated as the meal progressed. After finishing our initial glasses of water, beer, & soda, we were never offered refills. It felt as though we were being actively ignored by the staff. It wasn't just our table experiencing this issue; the table behind us also had to ask the server if they were being ignored. We ended up sitting at our table for 20 minutes before we could finally flag down our server to ask for the bill. The one redeeming quality of the evening was the food. It was really good & met our expectations in terms of taste & presentation. However, for the price of the food, I expected a much higher level of service. Unfortunately, the lack of attention & the poor service left a sour taste in our mouths. Judging by recent reviews we may have just come on an off night, but I can't honestly say I have any desire to return.View more
We are visiting Montreal with friends & Gibby's was recommended by locals. The restaurant has so much charm & you can tell it is loved by all ages of guests. The service was wonderful, Diane, our server, was attentive, friendly & patient when we took our time ordering. We all ordered various steak entrees & felt they were prepared perfectly. It's not often you get an actual "rare" steak when you ask for it so I was thrilled. Gibby's is a proper steakhouse, they let the meats speak for themselves. However the black pepper mushroom sauce on the "Diane" was really good too! The blue cheese salad was phenomenal & loved the Monte Carlo potato. As we were all quite full from the pickles, bread & steak entrees we decided to split a sorbet dessert. It was enough for our party of 4 to have a few tastes & feel satisfied. Plus it came with a cookie & dinner mints.View more
Since 1984 this was our go to place for our wedding anniversary. Gibbys was sold last year & subsequently food preparation, quality & menu selections have declined. Prices have increased dramatically. The salad's not what is used to be; my shrimps were tough & my wife's chicken kiev was overcooked & burnt. The service was good, although not quite what we were used to. One can tell the restaurant has changed management. Sadly & regretfully we will not be returning this year.View more
Montreal is known for its culinary excellence, our experience was far from it. On recommendation, we reserved. The location & ambience were lovely, we looked forward to the experience. I'm not sure what the problem was with our seating, there seemed to be ample space, however 2 waiters continuously bumped our chairs when going by, not just a few times but over & over. My husband ordered beef carpaccio to start, which they did not have. When it came to dessert, he ordered crème brûlée, which they didn't have either. My beef wellington boasted approximately 2 tbsp of duxelle, I took the pastry off because I found it hard to believe they would send it out of the kitchen like that & sure enough the duxelle was almost non-existent. We overheard the table next to ours order a second bottle of wine & were told there was no more of that brand, so they would have to order something else. It can also be noted that our server seemed to go out of his way to be rude. Each time I thanked him he would just walk away as I was speaking to him, he seemed unhappy that we were there. Not having ample product, repeatedly banging into customers & overall rude service, I have had a hard time choosing which steak house has been my favourite during our travels, Gibbys has made it very easy to determine which was the worstView more
Such an amazing experience! Celebrated my birthday & Gibbys made it so memorable! Excellent service by Melodie. I definitly recommend the restaurant. Unique service, we feel very much appreciated as clients going there. Gibby's never fails I swear.View more
Gibby's is an absolute classic located in Vieux Port. The building is cozy, rustic & nostalgic. Steak is a must, they will cook to your liking. The portions are big, & the value is worth it. Service is top notch, they are real pros of the industry, thank you Christian! Highly recommend you check this place out.View more
So happy to leave this review. My ex-boyfriend & I had a reservation at Gibby's & it was such an experience. We arrived, they were extremely busy & I think reservations weren't organized too well, but nonetheless, we were seated & greated by our server Christine. She was incredible, fast, busy, hustling but really incredible. Definitely ask for her service! The food was amazing. Very large portions. Pricey but worth it.. well done Gibby's. Will absolutely recommend it as the best steakhouse in Montreal.View more
So happy that Gibby's was recommended by a business colleague. Will definitely return!View more
One the best places to try good steak. If you are hungry I suggest the RIP eye steak(gibby's cut) which is large & juicy. Try the salad with blue cheese... 👌🏻View more
Still a great old Montreal experience. Impeccable service as always, even though there was an ownership change. Best old fashioned in Montreal! Amazing raw oysters. I'm a beef wellington afficionado, & it's getting more & more difficult to find. Gibby's still has it on the main menu (most places now are a special if you're lucky), but it's smaller than it used to be (8 Oz) , like everything else post-pandemic. One thing they don't have anymore are the showmanship table desserts like bananas Foster or cherries jubilee. Still worth a visit especially coming from the USA taking advantage of the good exchange rate.View more

WOW. What an amazing dinning experience. Emile was our waiter & I will strongly encourage to ask for him. From start to finish we felt like royalty! Food was out of this world & came exactly as requested. A must visit if you haven't been & a must revisit if you haven't been in a while (It had been 13+ years since we had last been). Montreal has been hit & miss lately with service but Gibby's did not disappoint.View more
A restaurant with a wonderful old stone building & beautiful design. Very professional & friendly staff & very delicious food. The price is very reasonable for the excellent service & food & having a good time. 😍. & the best & good ending of our dinner was Gibbys chocolate, wow 😋😋😋View more
Was looking forward to my birthday dinner at Gibbys. Started with a rude hostess & moved to an indifferent waiter. Meal was very average, including dessert. Waiter didnt ask if our steaks were cooked to liking, had to ask for dessert menus. It had been a while & was excited to share Gibbys with my sons. Won't be back. A lot better places in Montreal to have a great steak dinner.View more
Gibbys proclaims "Experience the finest seafood, fresh plump chilled oysters, a large choice of the freshest fish & Gibbys' expertly aged delectable steaks, cooked to perfection." I have been to some of the finest steakhouses in North America (yes that is only my opinion) but they would include Bern's inTampa, Golden Steer in Las Vegas, Gibsons in Chicago, Charlie's in Orlando, Peter Luger in NYC, etc. Expectations were high. Ambiance did not disappoint. Selection was promising. Ordered the Gibby's cut. Looked perfect, but on 1st few bites it was obvious to me it was slightly overcooked. I would have managed, but before I could even draw attention to the waitress, the manager (his name is Adil) was at our table asking if everything was ok. I mentioned it was a bit more overcooked than I was used to & without hesitation or question he asked if he could replace it for me. I said it was fine. He insisted & said it was his responsibility to ensure they offered their best. Promptly replaced, it was perfect. No questions asked, no guilt involved, they made it right. To me, that separates the elite experiences from even the best. Attention to making the evening perfect is what Gibbys does exceptionally well. Enjoy the experience. Relish in the service. Highly recommended.View more
We were at Gibbys for my mother's birthday. Our server Mourad was amazing, attentive, patient & always smiling. The included salads, baked potatoes, fresh bread & birthday cake were all delicious. The Beef Wellington & steaks were good. This wasn't our first time dining here & as usual the ambience was inviting & warm.View more
Feb. 2024 - it seems like every 2 years, we come to this historic establishment for a great Gibby's dinner. You can never go wrong with the food. I've been eating here for over 50 years, & it is consistently excellent. The salad is ample in quantity, the steaks are perfectly cooked & the sides, vegetables & potatoes are always amazing. This was, however, the first time that I was NOT impressed with the service. Yes, it was busy, but there's more that enough staff. Forks went flying, tea, coffee, & chocolate mints were thrown on the table, & I never received my birthday cake that Gibby's was so famous for. It's unfortunate. I was so looking forward to it. When my husband called to make the reservation, they even asked for my name & how it was spelled. Because I was so unhappy my husband went to maitre d' & mentioned the fact. They were nice about it & said that they had a cake mentioned in the reservation. They will give it to us to take home. Ten minutes later, the waiter says there is an issue, they don't have a cake but her will give us 2 pieces of a dessert to take home. I got a box. Not sure what's inside, but I will let you know once I get home. Well, inside were two pieces of Blueberry cheese cake & 2 containers of blueberry coulis Thank you Gibby's. Customer satisfaction all the way. Feb 2022 - Another birthday was spent at Gibby's Montreal. I had the Petit Filet Mignon & a Lobster Tail with the Monte Carlo potato. Never disappointing. The lobster tail was small but excellent. My husband ordered the Gibby's cut 22oz steak with fries. He ordered it medium, but it came medium-rare. It was a little too blue for him, so he returned it. This is now the second time we have eaten here & had to return food. The waiter was nice about the issue, & it was immediately corrected. The birthday cake was great as usual. It's a vanilla cake with whip cream & fruit in the center. Don't forget the pic they give you to take home. It may be for some a bit pricey but well worth it. It is a good value because everything is included. All mains come with salad, potato, & veggies.View more
I really love Gibbys. I've been a handful of times for different occasions but it's always magical returning. This time, we came for Christmas dinner with our baby & they seated us upstairs in the quieter area, along with another couple & their baby. It was very cosy! The food was good but not as good as I remembered. Services was also good but not as good as I remembered. Overall I would return but not 5 stars this time.View more
Today was my first ever visit to Gibby's, & I will definitely be back! Incredible food! Incredible staff, especially George B!!! Hands down the best service I've ever received in Monteal! I will be back & sitting in George B's section!!!View more

We brought my mom there once for her birthday & It was her first time at Gibby's. We called to reserve & specifically told them that it was for a birthday. At the end, our waitress was not made aware of that & we missed the celebratory dessert. It was supposed to be a special night. The same thing happened to my sister tonight, she went for an anniversary dinner & did let them know prior to coming but their waiter was not aware of the special occasion. Love the food & ambiance but the service is meh.View more
My wife & I were celebrating a very special anniversary, so we decided to dine at Gibbys, & it turned out to be a great choice. We have been satisfied customers for over 50 years & have had some very memorable meals during that time period. Gibbys is located in a historic building built during the 18th & 19th centuries & there is an incredible feeling of stepping into Montreal's past which only adds to Gibbys ambiance. Now for the most important part of our meal, the food. We both started with a generous portion of Gibbys mixed salad. My wife chose a delicious Grilled Salmon & I ordered a thick & juicy Filet Mignon Steak cooked to perfection. Both plates were garnished with a Monte Carlo Baked Potato & asparagus. Because it was our special occasion the waitress brought to our table a beautiful cake for dessert, & I also have to add the service was splendid throughout our dinner. We left Gibbys with a full belly & a happy heart & with another memorable meal to remember.View more
The whole experience of it was top. From start to finish Gibbys was truly amazing with their own rich history of the "The Gate" & their location, the entry warm welcoming & greeting , the elegant high-end classy atmosphere with some low volume Sade playing in the background , the top notch most professional server , the best cuts of steaks & all the care to each single little details made it a strong steakhouse pillar in Montreal.View more
Ambience was top notch & just the experience I was looking for visiting Montréal from Texas! The food was outstanding, everything I had was delicious which included the Petit Filet Mignon, broiled shrimp, Gibby's salad, the Monte Carlo potato & the key lime pie! I definitely overdid it, but it was worth it. I hate that I can't remember my server's name but she was excellent & very attentive, even when it got busy. She had just come from vacationing in Jamaica if that helps! She was so kind & friendly. Thank you for making my last meal in Montréal unforgettableView more
We spent 4 nights in Montréal & went back to Gibbys twice because of Kasra. He offers 5 star service - we would highly recommend requesting him.
The food is delicious. Pickles, bacon & fresh bread to start per usual. We had the beef Wellington & Ribeye, each cooked to perfection. Do not pass this up on your visit to Montréal.View more
Having heard many positives about Gibby's I finally had a chance to visit. Very rustic & charming inside. The female attire should be updated though. I'm sure they would be much happier.
I ordered the Gibby's cut ribeye with a side of lobster tail. My friend ordered the same but with the scampi side. She shared with her daughter.
Dinner started with free pickles & a great loaf of bread followed by a very a tasty salad. Other option were a also available (see web menu). After our salad, a small portion of sorbet was served to cleanse the pallet. A nice touch.
The steaks were served & they were done exactly as order. My friend loved her steak while I & her daughter found the steak just average. It tasted a little bland. It was not a melt in you mouth rich steak that I'm accustomed to from a well marbled rib eye.
While I'm glad to have the Gibby's experience (great service), Gibby's will not be the my first choice when I get a craving for a good ribeye.
Completing my touring of Montreal finest steakhouses. This time, dinner at Gibby's, an institution that I have not visited since 2009. In 2009, when I first visited Gibby's, I had not much experience with steakhouses & I was very impressed at that time. Years later, I have tried many steakhouses not only in Canada, but also in the US & in other countries where beef is as revered as in the US. The reason I am writing this is because I do not think that Gibby's is bad. They are doing things the same way they used to, but I believe that I am not impressed by it anymore only because my taste has evolved. So Yes, my rib eye was cooked to requested doneness, but no it's no more one that seduces me because nowadays my ideal rib eye steak is the like of a corn-finished 40 days dry aged Black Angus, A 40 days wet aged USDA prime, bone-in, etc.. which are clearly not what was offered on this dinner (this boneless rib eye steak was firmer, had less fat distribution, less expressive meat flavor ...but again, compared ..to what i idealize as great today ). So less impressed, indeed, but only because my taste has switched to something else, NOT because it is bad! & yes, if you start comparing to some other hot steakhouses, well no it is not playing in the same league as it is not its purpose neither. Still, it's a generous steakhouse: nice warm bread, palate cleanser, pickles of great quality, plenty of salad did accompany my rib eye. The only thing that i can't put on the back of the evolution of my palate is this : the wine service...leaving a glass of Pinot noir on my table without showing the bottle to me, without pre-tasting NO & NO! You serve me my glass of Pinot Noir while I haven't finished my other glass of sparkling wine, again..NO! & what about the year of that PN? Its description (region, etc) There's no excuse for that.
