Review Summary

Fondue Chinoise Express is seen as a no frills spot with an intimidating ordering experience and very large portions that may require help finishing the soup; the menu covers a great range of authentic Chinese dishes, with favorites like pickled cabbage and pork and a spicy beef soup; chili oil, garlic and coriander are common toppings for these dishes; appearances aside, the cuisine is good, portions are generous, and prices are affordable; best dandan noodles in town and hearty noodle soups are recommended, with straightforward quick service noted; the food is consistently delicious and fresh, portions are big, and the broth is described as heavenly.

My wife & I love this place - but we always choose flavour over ambience. This is a no-frills place. The dishes are around $15, but you'll struggle to finish. A great range of authentic Chinese dishes. My wife's favorite is the pickled cabbage & pork. Mine is the 5-spice beef soup. If you can handle chili's, they offer a chili-oil; garlic & coriander are common toppings to these dishes.

Hole in the wall Chinese spot with very straightforward & quick service. I recommend the hearty noodle soups.

Amazing soups. You know this because a lot of legit Chinese ppl eat there.

5 spice porc is amazing.

They close randomly when they feel like it. But that's ok if you have a following I guess.

Incomprehensible signage, great noodles. This place, tucked away in the faubourg building, is one of the best kept secrets of the city. The place is covered in menus & signage in Chinese, French & English, telling you the various items on offer, (soups, noodles, stir fry, didn't see hot pot/fondue chinoise on there but hey) & the various instructions on how to navigate the ordering process. Order here, don't step here, after mandarin, try French, bring back your bowl & get your $2 deposit back, & also some political messages? One sign says, in French English & Chinese, something to the effect of "nuclear waste dumped into the ocean is a crime against humanity." Yeah, it does sound bad, but I'm not conversant enough in Chinese politics to understand what this means. Some of the more political signs are in Mandarin & are... perhaps more direct in their intent. In any case, this 2 person operation is serving up the best Dan Dan noodles I've had, so an esoteric ordering process & propaganda don't mean much. 10/10.
