El Rey del Taco is widely described as an authentic Mexican spot with a warm, lively vibe near Jean Talon Market, where many reviews praise fresh, homemade touches such as chips, tortillas, salsas and guacamole, and flavors that feel true to Mexico in dishes like chilaquiles verdes, al pastor, burritos and tacos. The menu is large, with a store section and ready-to-go options that many diners appreciate for variety and convenience, and prices are often considered good value given the quality, though a few comments note small portions or occasional price quirks. Service is repeatedly described as friendly, attentive and efficient, creating a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere. While most experiences are positive, there are a few critiques including occasional temperature or flavor inconsistencies, and one notably negative incident involving a dental injury and disputed handling by staff. Overall, El Rey del Taco emerges as a reliable, recommended choice for Mexican cuisine with strong toppings, fresh ingredients and a hospitable welcome, inviting repeat visits for favorites like tacos and guacamole.
On mange bien, trop bien même.
Lengua Tacos: The lengua is tender & flavorful, perfectly complemented by soft & slightly chewy tortillas that hold everything together without overpowering the delicate meat. Carnitas Tacos: The carnitas are juicy & succulent but its not something I would go crazy about. They could have lightly toasted the tortillas.
Absolutely the best Mexican food in the city. The food is always incredibly fresh, & very well priced. I never go home without a giant tub of their guacamole too, it's so damn delicious.
