El Chalateco is widely praised for authentic Salvadoran comfort food with pupusas, yucca, tamales and other staples described as delicious and well seasoned, offered at reasonable prices and in generous portions. Reviews consistently note a warm, friendly atmosphere and attentive service that helps create a feel of Latin American hospitality. The menu is varied with vegetarian and vegan options and features combo deals that include a drink, which many say adds strong value. Horchata and maracuja juice are frequently highlighted as fresh and flavorful, while a few guests find some dishes a bit too salty or the service slower at times. Some comments mention smaller pupusas or occasional inconsistency, but overall satisfaction runs high and many say they would return, sometimes making the trip from afar to do so. The place is often described as one of the best Salvadoran spots in town, with generous portions and affordable pricing that keep customers coming back.
Recomendado 100%.
Love this place our whole family comes here for every since birthday, celebration & anytime we want delicious pupusas! We've tried several spots for pupusas before & nothing compares to this place! This is as close as it gets to authentic pupusas from El Salvador! Also the staff is amazing always really nice & attentive! Also love how they always have YouTube from El Salvador playing, making the whole thing feel put together!

Wow. Erick. You have made my day with your incredible & attentive service. Everything was amazing, i did not know about Salvadoran food before you & it's now my favourite food in the planet. I will be back.
Potentially everyday & potentially for the rest of the life.
Traditional food , reasonably priced. Taste of El Salvador with a Latin atmosphere ! Just missing a stunning mural of a beach. 🏖? Or a delicious canoa.

Finally was able to try Restaurant El Chalateco, a Salvadorean spot. The servers were all warm & welcoming. They have 6 combo deals ($11.00 to $16.49) if you order before 5:00pm. You get to choose your pupusa/tamale/drink.
- Curtido & salsa roja - salsa was thin, watery
- Platano con crema ($4.50) - decent but could have been crispier & more caramelized
- Combo #3 ($16.49) - 1 pupusa (de chicharron), yuca con chicharron & a drink (guayaba). Yuca was excellent & came with several chunks of fried pork
- Combo #6 ($12.50) - 1 tamal (pollo), 2 pupusas (revuelta & de queso y espinaca) & a drink (horchata). Pupusas were tasty. Tamale was moist & fluffy. Horchata was nicely spiced
I took my Salvadoran boyfriend there for dinner so that I could try authentic Salvadoran food. He was absolutely blown away by how good the food was, & how authentic it was, & a true representation of his food & culinary heritage. We were there about a week ago & he brings it up every day saying how he would like to go back sadly we live in Vancouver so it's pretty unlikely. We'll be back anytime soon, but we will return every time we're in Montreal.
Latinos are the best: great food with nice portion size, friendly service (even if they were really busy the day I went to). The employees aren't really from El Salvador, I think there's only one. I liked it, would come again :)
