Made a last minute reservation here for our last night in Montreal & we were incredibly impressed. What a demonstration of hospitality & passion for the food - the staff & head chef's warmth & attentiveness made this meal stand out above every other restaurant we visited. Our meals were flavorful, fresh, & the portions were generous. Truly felt like being welcomed into someone's home for a meal, but the ambiance was romantic & intimate. Highly recommend checking this restaurant out - it has entered the top of my list (& I'm based in NYC)!!
I've been to Darbar Restaurant several times now, & it just keeps pulling me back! This time, I celebrated my birthday dinner on July 8 with my son & my boyfriend, & once again, the experience was exceptional from beginning to end.
The food was absolutely amazing-delicious, rich in flavor, perfectly seasoned, & beautifully prepared. Every bite was a treat. Even my boyfriend, who isn't used to spicy food, absolutely loved his meal, which says a lot!
One thing that truly sets Darbar apart is the hospitality. The chef & owner is incredibly welcoming & takes the time to personally visit every table to make sure everyone is enjoying their meal. That personal touch makes you feel like more than just a customer.
The food, the service, & the warm atmosphere are why I keep coming back. I highly recommend Darbar to anyone looking for outstanding Indian cuisine. We can't wait for our next visit!
I've been a long-time fan of this place, but hadn't been back since the father & original owner passed & his son took over. I'm so glad I returned.
We were greeted by the son/chef himself, who was warm, attentive, & clearly committed to carrying on his father's legacy with care & passion. He took the time to ask us a few questions to'get to know us,' then chose our dishes himself, which made the whole experience feel personal & thoughtful.

The appetizer was outstanding - a chicken kebab dish served in an oven-style presentation, full of flavor & beautifully done. Our mains & dessert were equally delicious. Best naan I have had in a while.
My friend & I both loved the experience. We ate very well & found the pricing fair for the quality & care. Service was warm & attentive.
Will definitely be back.

Darbar has been one of my partner & my favorite restaurants in Montreal & we often celebrate special occasions there. The chef & staff are always accommodating & friendly & the food & drinks are fantastic. We always try something new when we're there & are always amazed by the complexity of the flavors & the quality of each dish. It's clear how much work & intention goes into every detail. Last night we went for my partner's final night in Montreal before he leaves for the summer & we had a wonderful experience. We ordered the non-vegetarian thali, the seekh kebabs, & the madrasi bakra to share & were blown away by everything we ordered. I also highly recommend the cocktails on the menu, especially the whiskey sour which is phenomenal.
What can I say-this place is truly amazing, from the service to the food. Everything is made from scratch, & you can absolutely taste it. The dishes are fresh, flavorful, & perfectly balanced.
What really sets this place apart is that the chef personally comes out to connect with every table, taking the time to understand spice tolerance & any special requests. You genuinely feel the love & passion he puts into his food.
From one chef to another, I truly admire & respect that level of care & dedication. It's something you rarely find in restaurants these days. I will be back forsure !
Amazing experience from start to finish. Despite my very embarrassing entrance (accidentally snagging a tablecloth with my winter coat & sending glasses flying 😅), the staff handled everything with so much kindness & professionalism.
The owner/chef personally came to ask about our tastes & brought us one familiar dish & one new recommendation - both were absolutely incredible.

We discovered this place (without realizing it's a fine dining) by chance during our last trip to Montreal, & it turned out to be a hidden gem. The food was delicious - full of flavor, authentic yet modern, & perfectly balanced. What really made the experience special was the service. My wife & I eat at Darbar often, & the cuisine is definitely a few steps above your typical Indian restaurant experience. The cocktails are thoughtful & delicious, & the staff are among the most welcoming I've encountered anywhere in Montreal. It's rare to find a place that balances warmth, flavor, & atmosphere so effortlessly - Darbar does it beautifully.
Sometimes in life you know what your want to eat & where & this place is great for that, the menu is full of high quality great food. But if you are wandering around the snow covered streets of Montreal not knowing what you want other than to eat this place is for you as well. The owner & staff are there to help you have a great night & serve you meal akin to a mosaic of flavor. They are also super accommodating to dietary needs (vegan in our case). If you are in this city you need to eat here!
