Absolutely GOATED. Simar & his team have worked together & created an experience that punches far above its weight class. They have mastered the basics of service & gone well beyond in service, with Simar personally taking into account your tastes when preparing dishes.
& let me get to the food. They have a life changing murgh malai, the texture & flavor pushing the limits of perfection of what chicken is capable of.
The mains continue to impress, with a jalfrezzi that changed the mind of a pepper hater & a tikka masala that will top the list of any indian food enjoyers. The spice can challenge you, if you've chosen to ask Simar to crank up the heat a bit, but if it's what you asked for you'll find yourself wanting more & more.
Finally the desserts. While I was filled nearly to the brim, I was presented with two lovely scoops of experimental kulfis. A beautiful falooda & a nice mellow malai, each complementing the complexity & simplicity of each other.
Simar understands amazing food & I hope he continues to advance his passion when it comes to darbar.
Without a doubt a must-go for anyone in Montreal.
Small tip: While they may have seats available, make sure to book a reservation to make sure you get a seat as it is a pretty small place.
I didn't know what to expect because we have our go-to Indian restaurants in the city, but finally decided to try it. We were very pleasantly surprised! The food really stood out & set itself apart. The dishes were all very flavourful & you can tell a lot of love goes into it. The chicken tikka masala was a standout.
Amazing service from the moment we walked in, with a warm & inviting atmosphere. The chef & server were both incredibly welcoming & attentive. The butter chicken was absolutely delicious, & every dish we tried was excellent-go with the Chef's recommendations! A true hidden gem!
Our family of 5 went to Darbar for our 8p reservation on last Sunday. We ordered masala tea, chicken malai kebab, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, garlic naan, & gulab jamun. The food was wonderfully delicious. The lady who waited our table was very friendly & attentive. Coming from NY, we are not easily impressed with Indian food. This small family run restaurant is a gem. Highly recommended!
SOOO INCREDIBLE!! My partner & I visited 2 years ago when we were last in town & haven't forgotten it since, we knew we had to be back. This time was even better than the last! The service was outstanding, the head chef, Simar, made sure to personalize the experience for us to make our night extra special. The food was phenomenal, we went off recommendations for the korma & a lamb dish, both were exceptional. We had a chicken starter that blew us away. Cocktails were excellent as well. We will be back again next time we're in town!
Food was great! But overpriced. You pay for a lot of good sauces but very few chicken or paneer pieces. Service was fine but very slow, dont go there if you have a show after, youre gonna miss it. Elseway the staff is very friendly.
Ambiance? The terrace was awful, so if you cant eat inside, skip it. I mean, its not entirely their fault, its the city. Loud arguing junkies the other side of the street. Junk & yellow liquid smell, many homeless come & ask for change while youre eating. & the non stop loud traffic doesnt help either.
Very delicious food & the service was top notch, including from the chef himself who stopped by the table to say hello & offer customized dishes for our kids. The Carolina reaper & coconut curry was a stand out, as were the chicken kebab appetizers. It's clear that everyone at Darbar takes great pride in their work & the restaurant. I would recommend to anyone visiting Montreal!
I've been a long-time fan of this place, but hadn't been back since the father & original owner passed & his son took over. I'm so glad I returned.
We were greeted by the son/chef himself, who was warm, attentive, & clearly committed to carrying on his father's legacy with care & passion. He took the time to ask us a few questions to'get to know us,' then chose our dishes himself, which made the whole experience feel personal & thoughtful.
I love when there's a real family story behind a restaurant, & you can feel it here.
The appetizer was outstanding - a chicken kebab dish served in an oven-style presentation, full of flavor & beautifully done. Our mains & dessert were equally delicious. Best naan I have had in a while.
My friend & I both loved the experience. We ate very well & found the pricing fair for the quality & care. Service was warm & attentive.
