Review Summary

Damas is widely celebrated as a premier culinary destination in Montreal, offering an exceptional Syrian dining experience defined by vibrant, authentic flavors and meticulous presentation. Guests frequently praise the stunning, elegantly designed atmosphere, which serves as a warm and inviting backdrop for shareable dishes like the signature hummus, tender lamb racks, and flavorful mezze. The service is consistently highlighted as a major strength, with professional and knowledgeable staff members often going above and beyond to ensure a memorable visit through thoughtful menu guidance and attentive care. While some diners express differing opinions regarding the pricing and portion sizes, many view the premium cost as justified by the high quality of ingredients, the complexity of the culinary craftsmanship, and the overall immersive experience that keeps patrons returning for special occasions.

Got the tasting menu (party of 4). We had a new waiter that didn't really know the menu. We had to ask for cutlery & sharing plates. Random staff were dropping off the plates with no explanations & the courses seemed disorganized & rushed. Some plates were difficult for us to divide & the portions were small (we had to cut a piece of meat into 4 & portion out sauce). Our waiter never checked up on us. Towards the end of the meal, a new staff member asked what we thought of the bread (at this points we realized they had forgotten to bring it). No one refilled our waters. Based on recommendations, I guess it was an off evening, but this is completely unacceptable given the insane price... Definitely in the bottom 0.1% of restaurant experiences...

Service impeccable & quelle surprise dans la découverte des différents plats. J'ai rarement mangé une nourriture aussi savoureuse. Ce n'était pas un repas mais une expérience.

Je recommande & j'y retournerai sans aucun doute

Had a wonderful experience at Damas, where Beatrice, our host, curated the entire dining experience with great care & attention, making the evening feel seamless & special. The service was consistently strong, with servers thoughtfully describing each dish as it arrived, adding to the overall enjoyment. We sat on the patio, which had a relaxed & enjoyable atmosphere, & the meal was perfectly capped off with a complimentary mint digestive drink at the end.

Damas was quite the experience.
Take a look at the pictures for an impression of the ornate interior.
Lots of love in every detail.
But of course the food is the star, once you have made peace with the price tag of $160 for the six course (9 items) tasting menu, which gives you an amazing tour of Syrian flavors as interpreted by Damas.
Everyone of these comes with a thorough description by the server that gives you the details.
I discovered something I had never tasted before, a caper berry I thought was a pickled pepper.
I'm not a food expert & this was unforgettable. Try a smoked cocktail, which you can also get without alcohol.
Our server, Nick, was a local foodie who happily answered my hundred questions. At the end he gave us a list of recommendations for other places to try, for experiencing the amazing Montreal food scene.
Come & be impressed!

BRUNCH. We ate dinner here one night & brunch 2 days later. The front of house & the wait staff were amazing both visits. Very friendly, just as helpful, & food recommendations that were extremely enjoyable & right on point. As amazing as the entire series experience is the food is even still the star. The flavors are creative & well put together. I highly recommend this place if you eat, & you're in Montreal, you need to try it!

I wish I took more pictures of the food but it was just that good we couldn't be bothered.

My group of 5 had 10 lamb racks, the lamb dumplings & a hummus shawarma. Everything tasted very good, with the hummus shawarma being the highlight. Quite expensive though, personally i think its worth a try if coming to montreal.

Life changing experience. I have been to a lot of good middle eastern places around the world but this is by far one of the best. I did the tasting menu & every dish was incredible. I heard the guy next to me say that the food reminded him of his mom's cooking, that's how you know. I think my favorite was either the fattoush or the pastirma. If you sit at the bar you definitely gotta try to strike up a conversation with Amjad (not sure if I spelled his name right) - he's a really great guy.

It's rare to experience a restaurant where the level of service & hospitality & the taste & quality of the meal are constantly trying to outdo one another, but that's exactly what we experienced at Damas. We dined with a *large* group of ethnic Armenians with deep roots in the Middle East, including Syria (so we are connoisseurs of this type of cuisine). We brought our rambunctious children. We enjoyed every moment & every course. I'd like to specifically shout out the management & our head server Nick. Nick never made us feel like an inconvenience (even when we were). His team was attentive, helpful, & kind. &, as I mentioned, the food was out of this world.

WOW! We are not professional restaurateurs, but this was the most amazing experience we have ever had.
The food was phenomenal. The hummus platter was perfection for an appetizer.
You MUST get the cheese borek. Their warm flaky pastry stuffed with creamy cheese was mouth watering good.
For our mains we had the Fattet Mozat, which my fiancé said was the best dish he has ever had.
I was looking for something a bit lighter, & throughly enjoyed the Shish Taouk. The chicken was flavoured & grilled to perfection & the sauce under the potatoes was just the right amount of spice.

The most amazing thing we experienced & witnessed was how well the establishment was ran. From our server who was welcoming & very helpful with the menu & drink selections , to the staff who kept our waters filled, cleared our plates & cleaned our table in between each dish. To the staff we witnessed walking around making note to the status of each table to ensure everything came out in a timely manner. It was quite the spectacle & to everyone who made our evening special we thank you!
