Damas centers its culinary identity on authentic Syrian preparations that highlight traditional Levantine techniques. Diners encounter an expansive array of mezze including velvety hummus and smoky baba ghanouj alongside expertly seasoned grilled meats. The kitchen prioritizes high-quality spices and fresh produce to construct complex, layered flavor profiles characteristic of Middle Eastern heritage. Signature dishes such as fattoush and kibbeh exhibit a commitment to meticulous preparation and bold, aromatic herbs. The interior design mirrors the cultural vibrancy of the region through intricate textures and warm, ambient lighting. This establishment represents a significant destination for those seeking a comprehensive exploration of Mediterranean-inspired dishes prepared with technical precision. Each plate emphasizes the rich, diverse culinary landscape of Syria while maintaining a focus on structural balance and traditional ingredient sourcing.
Damas is widely recognized as a premier destination in Montreal, celebrated for its refined take on Syrian and Middle Eastern cuisine. Many diners describe the food as exceptional, highlighting vibrant flavors, high-quality ingredients, and creative presentations that elevate traditional dishes into an unforgettable dining experience. While the atmosphere is frequently praised for its beautiful, ornate decor and warm, celebratory energy, the level of service is consistently noted as a primary strength, with staff often described as professional, attentive, and highly knowledgeable. Although the restaurant is considered pricey and some patrons have noted concerns regarding the cost relative to portion sizes or inconsistencies during particularly busy shifts, the majority of visitors view it as a must-visit institution. Whether opting for the curated tasting menu or à la carte selections, the consensus among many is that the combination of exquisite flavors, top-tier hospitality, and immersive ambiance makes it a standout culinary landmark.
Damas is not just a restaurant, it is one of Montreal's true culinary treasures. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere, the service & the attention to detail make you feel that you are somewhere special. The food is rich, elegant & full of soul. Every dish carries deep Middle Eastern flavors, beautiful presentation & real craftsmanship. You can taste the passion, the technique & the respect for tradition in every bite. Damas is the kind of place that reminds you why dining out can still be an unforgettable experience. Truly one of the best restaurants in Montreal.
Dropped in for a random dinner at night & we had a great time at the restaurant. The staff was very accommodating & attentive, from the host greeting us to our wait staff member Beatrice. Recommend cocktails & the à la carte items. Would love to visit again next time in MTL 🙂???

Got the tasting menu (party of 4). We had a new waiter that didn't really know the menu. We had to ask for cutlery & sharing plates. Random staff were dropping off the plates with no explanations & the courses seemed disorganized & rushed. Some plates were difficult for us to divide & the portions were small (we had to cut a piece of meat into 4 & portion out sauce). Our waiter never checked up on us. Towards the end of the meal, a new staff member asked what we thought of the bread (at this points we realized they had forgotten to bring it). No one refilled our waters. Based on recommendations, I guess it was an off evening, but this is completely unacceptable given the insane price... Definitely in the bottom 0.1% of restaurant experiences...
Service impeccable & quelle surprise dans la découverte des différents plats. J'ai rarement mangé une nourriture aussi savoureuse. Ce n'était pas un repas mais une expérience.
Had a wonderful experience at Damas, where Beatrice, our host, curated the entire dining experience with great care & attention, making the evening feel seamless & special. The service was consistently strong, with servers thoughtfully describing each dish as it arrived, adding to the overall enjoyment. We sat on the patio, which had a relaxed & enjoyable atmosphere, & the meal was perfectly capped off with a complimentary mint digestive drink at the end.
Damas was quite the experience.
Take a look at the pictures for an impression of the ornate interior.
Lots of love in every detail.
But of course the food is the star, once you have made peace with the price tag of $160 for the six course (9 items) tasting menu, which gives you an amazing tour of Syrian flavors as interpreted by Damas.
Everyone of these comes with a thorough description by the server that gives you the details.
I discovered something I had never tasted before, a caper berry I thought was a pickled pepper.
I'm not a food expert & this was unforgettable. Try a smoked cocktail, which you can also get without alcohol.
Our server, Nick, was a local foodie who happily answered my hundred questions. At the end he gave us a list of recommendations for other places to try, for experiencing the amazing Montreal food scene.
Come & be impressed!
BRUNCH. We ate dinner here one night & brunch 2 days later. The front of house & the wait staff were amazing both visits. Very friendly, just as helpful, & food recommendations that were extremely enjoyable & right on point. As amazing as the entire series experience is the food is even still the star. The flavors are creative & well put together. I highly recommend this place if you eat, & you're in Montreal, you need to try it!
I wish I took more pictures of the food but it was just that good we couldn't be bothered.
