For the price of the tasting menu the portions are really disappointing & our group left feeling ripped off. For $500 including 2 cocktails & tip, we expected a lot more.
An absolute disappointment & let down. If you are going to spend on a great night & create memories with their sampling menu I believe it goes without saying that the service should be respectful & consistent. The staff thought we were their best friends & that they could say anything at any moment. Comments were made on our outfits, the fact that we used the lady's room & alcohol was pushed on us like the bill was not high enough already & we need to add more. I have dined in several of Montreal's best & this is not it. The staff needs a lesson in manners, respect & kindness. The amount of judgements passed, stares & innuendos gave the food a very bland taste. I am not going back nor would I encourage anyone to try it...
One of the best meals I've EVER had & I travel a lot (& I'll try anything). Incredible dishes & impeccable service. I would highly recommend the tasting menu, as it's totally worth the price.
Restaurant Damas is an absolute gem - a place that captures the soul of Montreal through flavors & atmosphere. No visit to the city ever feels complete without dining here. It's a must-have experience for any guest seeking something truly special.
As a vegetarian, I'm constantly amazed by the richness & variety of the plant-based options. Their roasted cauliflower dish is simply out of this world - tender, spiced to perfection, & unforgettable. From velvety dips to vibrant salads & aromatic stews, every plate is a celebration of Middle Eastern culinary artistry.
A heartfelt thank you to Mark for making every visit to Damas feel so personal & memorable. Your warmth, attention to detail, & genuine hospitality elevate the entire experience. It's rare to meet someone who brings such authenticity & care into their work - & it never goes unnoticed.
Damas isn't just a restaurant - it's a destination. An immersive & beautifully curated experience that brings me back every time.
Amazing Food & Ambiance, but Not Fully Kid-Friendly
I've been living in Montreal for two & a half years, & I only discovered Damas recently thanks to a friend's recommendation. It took a while to find a reservation for the dates we wanted-it's always fully booked, which is definitely a good sign.
Highlights:
• I was lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the restaurant, but the street seemed busy, so I recommend arriving early for your reservation just in case.
• The ambiance is beautiful-dark & cozy with just the right amount of light to highlight the décor. It feels intimate but still easy to have conversations & see everyone at the table.
• Service was quick & available in both French & English.
• The food was absolutely amazing. You can go for individual dishes if you're really hungry, but they're also a good size to share with a child if you're not looking for a huge portion.
• The drinks were diverse, beautifully presented, & just as good as they looked.
Downsides:
• It didn't feel like the staff were fully prepared to accommodate families with small children (ours is 3 years old). We were given a table with very high chairs & asked to switch to a regular table, but they couldn't accommodate the request. I'm not sure if it was because none were available or because they prefer not to seat young kids near other diners. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt & assume it was simply a lack of options.
• No booster seat was offered until I specifically asked for one. My son had been kneeling on the chair just to reach his plate. Once I requested it, though, they brought it quickly.
• Drinks were initially served (like water & juice) in regular glasses intended for adults. After noticing our son was struggling with the large glass, a team member kindly brought a smaller one for the water-but when it came to the orange juice, they used a large glass again, so we had to continue helping him drink.
• Speaking of drinks, they actually forgot to bring ours until after the food had arrived. We had to remind them.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, Damas is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding food & a great atmosphere. I'd happily go back for a special night out with friends or a date. Just be aware that if you're bringing little ones, you might need to be a bit more proactive in asking for what you need.
A very enjoyable evening! My husband & I went with two other friends & we all got the tasting menu. Highly recommend! A great way to get a taste of everything & it was all delicious.
