Review Summary

Comète BAKE SHOP is a highly regarded destination in the Plateau neighborhood of Montreal, celebrated for its authentic and meticulously crafted Japanese pastries. Visitors frequently praise the exceptional quality of items like the matcha melon pan, curry pan, and miso cardamom creations, noting that the textures are consistently light and the flavors are balanced. The shop features an open kitchen concept that allows patrons to observe the bakers at work, contributing to an inviting and transparent atmosphere. While the owners receive widespread acclaim for their warm and welcoming service, the small size of the space means that seating is very limited and queues can form quickly. Because these popular items often sell out early in the day, it is highly recommended to arrive early to ensure a wider selection of treats.

Pâtisseries sucrées salées authentiques
japonaises faites à la main. Matcha de qualité. Aucune attente !

Comète BAKE SHOP is a Top tier Japanese-inspired bakery for Montreal thanks to the gifted Pastry Chef that they have, & that shows in the elite skills on display (high-end pastry artistry, elite textures, elite technique). Excellent service as well.

Pâtisseries, thé & service authentiquement japonais. On aime! (Pas assez cher pour la qualité j'ajouterais.)

Very calm & peaceful tiny bakery specializing in Japanese sweet & savoury bakes. I have been several times & always try something new - everything is so good!

Leurs viennoiseries sont exquises, mais malheureusement ils n'en font jamais assez pour durer même la moitié de la journée. Donc aussi tôt que je peux arriver à la boulangerie, je peux rarement goûter à leurs produits :(

I've been to Comète twice & both times the staff were lovely & welcoming. Also appreciate the open kitchen concept & watching them bake.

I love the texture of the buns: soft with a bit of bite & chew. The cookies were my preferred texture of slight crunchy rim with a moist & crumbly centre. All the flavours are more pronounced than what is usually expected of Japanese flavoured pastries that can be too subtle sometimes. It's also not overtly sweet.

I shared a hand poured coffee (on special during weekdays when you buy a dessert) which was smooth & not too bitter. My mom who never drinks black coffee loved it black.

My only critique is the yuzu chocolate bun, the bun itself was little dry.

Highly recommend going early if you want to try one of their viennoiserie as they sell out quick!
