My hotel was nearby & I kept seeing people gathered outside or walking in this place. Around 4:30 one evening it was quiet, so I walked in to check out the food menu.
You walk in & there's a clothing store on one side & black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared & escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, & into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy.
The space is tiny-maybe 6-8 seats at the bar & a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like & don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous & the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink & a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately & had to leave.
The staff was friendly, personable, & chatty, & because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you.
Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.
Bons cocktails, sans plus. On donne un point pour l'originalité de la recette personnalisée, on en enlève un pour la présentation - aucune garniture, seulement un liquide dans un verre, on fait mieux à la maison.
L'endroit est excessivement bruyant. Nous entendions à peine notre conversation, & nous n'avons rien compris de la description qu'on nous a donnée de nos cocktails.
Pas un ratage complet, mais difficile de comprendre pourquoi les critiques sont si entichés de cet endroit.
Solid bar & the staff know their shit to a T! Loved our mixologist Sam, well traveled, well trained, & very social. Made picking a cocktail (NO Menus btw) very simple & easy!
Highly recommend. Cute little date night spot, or after dinner night cap.
It's a very unique concept as a mixologist would ask for your preferences & specific flavour profiles. In return, they would try to create a cocktail that suits your tastes. I'm not a very experienced enthusiast when it comes to alcohol but I appreciate the drinks.
The best cocktail place in Montreal. From a fair margin. Cocktails taste amazing. The alcohol selection is not just broad, it is curated.
The staff is very good, professional & creative.

The Cloakroom Bar is genuinely one of the best cocktail experiences I've ever had - & the accolades back it up. Ranked #2 bar in Canada & #31 in North America, this intimate 25-seat gem in Montreal's Golden Square Mile is the real deal.
What makes it truly special is the no-menu approach. You tell the bartender what you're in the mood for - a spirit, a flavour profile, a vibe - & they craft something extraordinary just for you. The collection of rare vintage spirits, including some truly remarkable aged amari & bourbons sourced from European cellars, is unlike anything you'll find elsewhere in the city.
The atmosphere is warm, intimate, & quietly sophisticated - the kind of place where time slows down & every sip feels considered. Beverage director Andrew Whibley & the team are passionate, knowledgeable, & genuinely love what they do.
If you care about cocktails at all, this is a non-negotiable stop in Montreal. One of a kind.
What a place! We felt really welcomed a Mexican, he gave us really good recomendaciones about the drinks. 🍹 The concept of the bar is interesting… there is no menu, therefore you just say what you are in the mood of… it's fine cause they know the exact questions to make in order to give the best choice. Definitively a must on the bar hop night. My husband was really in the mood for a Negroni & even though it was a cocktail per se… they made him a version of a similar drink. He was really happy about the choice of the waiter.
Speakeasy vraiment sympa. La salle n'est pas très grande mais on était bien installé. Pas de carte, vous dites ce que vous aimez & le bartender improvise un cocktail. J'en ai pris un sans alcool, & il était excellent également.
I love this place. Shout out to Ulysse (spelling?) for the absolutely outstanding hospitality. He made me feel welcome & at home (when I was attending solo). & he made the best cocktails.
I highly recommend. Staff here is phenomenal. Just make sure you know what you like. Important as you need to tell the bartenders.
Clockroom Bar feels like a hidden gem, tucked beside a tailor shop. We were lucky to get in with no wait, but there was a line when we left.
The concept is great - no menu, just tell them your preferences & they create a custom cocktail. Mine was sweet & fruity, & I loved it. Service was smooth, & they even took our coats at the entrance.
The only downside is the space - it's very small & can feel cramped, with limited seating options (you sit side by side). Great experience overall, just not ideal if you want more comfort or privacy.
