Chez Mère Grand is described as a cozy, welcoming cafe in Old Montreal with excellent coffee and freshly baked pastries, with croissants, chocolatines, and lavender scone highlighted by many visitors. Friendly staff and a charming vibe make it a reliable spot for a morning coffee or a leisurely bite. Several reviews note a warm Parisian inspired atmosphere and in house baking, and the location near the lake and the Old Port is frequently praised. Some comments mention occasional busy times, mixed experiences with staff, and practical details such as cash payments and limited vegan or gluten free options. Overall, the place comes across as a beloved local gem with high quality coffee and pastries and a homey feel that invites return visits.
Beautiful little cafe in a convenient location near hotels & Old Port. Baristas are skilled & professional-Jacob & Justine provided great service & made me a delicious coffee. Beans are locally roasted, wide selection of teas. Almond & oat barista quality milks available-unfortunately no vegan or gluten free options available currently. Pastries, sandwiches are made fresh in house. In house syrups as well. Selection of local jams, spices, oils, etc. for purchases-good gifts for tourists. Small terrace outside & plenty of seating inside.
Nestled into a cozy corner in old Montreal, this split level cafe caters to tourists & locals alike with kindness, care to detail, & with grace. Food is fresh & the coffee beans can also be purchased by the bag.
If you order an iced cafe latte, you will be pleased to see what patience & care they take to create this refreshing & energy boosting beverage. It's like alcohol mixology & they even use a shaker to chill the espresso, creating a smooth frothy'crema'. All I can say is go.

Our weekend away with friends was made even sweeter by waking up to a delicious coffee & yummy croissant, served by the awesome Colin! It felt like we were in someone's kitchen! Started our day there all 3 days! Highly recommend!
Super cute coffee shop! Unfortunately I arrived just as it was closing but got an iced latte & tea to go! Both were delicious! Service was also excellent!

i love this place so much. the café itself is beautiful & the food is always consistently incredible. i've been going there for years & it's still my favourite café in the city. the owner is super friendly & gives top notch service every single time. i definitely recommend! their croissant sandwiches, they are superb as well as their coffee which is made with care. & their desserts are on another level! can't wait to come back.
I was on a business trip to Montreal & was looking for a coffee & some pastry. The cappuccino was excellent, as well as the croissant (crispy outside, flaky & buttery on the inside). Staff is very friendly, & the decor is unique. Will definitely go there again next time I'm in Montreal!
Great place for a coffee & cake. Our coffees were delicious. Very cute & welcoming place with very friendly staff. A must stop in Montreal to have a break in the middle of your walking around. It's only a few minutes walk from the White Tower along the river. Also good to do some work or read a book.
Moved in down the street about a year ago, & this was the first place I went. The owner, who is here every day, was very welcoming, & is a great guy. I am learning French, & every time I come in, he practices with me a bit. He makes amazing coffee, juices, & food. I especially recommend the hot americano or allongé, & appreciate that he doesn't offer a saturated amount of iced or artificial options like you would get at Starbucks. The atmosphere is really amazing, feels very comfortable & inviting, & I especially love the music. Once again, I want to emphasize how great the owner is, & it's respectable that he runs his business the way he wants, rather than jumping onto quick dying trends. I come here all the time with my boyfriend, & will always recommend.
