I was wondering how a restaurant can be open for 54 years. The answer? A well-curated menu of French classics with a Montreal spin. House made charcuterie & terrines. Excellent service & a true bistro atmosphere full of locals revelling in food & friendship. We wanted to try it all & ordered too much including the country terrine, racalette, risotto & bouillabaisse with a sauce that was simply melt-in-my mouth divine. I can't wait to dine at LC every time I visit Montreal!
A lot of people think that French Cuisine is expensive. Well, this place is the total opposite. They tried to make it good, focused on quality, friendly portion while remaining affordable. Easy to reserve. Great services & amazing french food. Definitely a go-to place.
Great French cuisine. One of the best three in Montreal
Top chef Romain
Update Very pleasant service
Best dishes: lobster bisque, Dover sole, nougat
Classic French offering & atmosphere, dishes are top quality & service is very French - it's like being on a trip to France. You'll find some dishes here that you won't find anywhere else in Montreal.
Cute French bistro in Outremont on rue Laurier. Has both indoor & outdoor dining.
Food is great & there's also a kids option for those under 14. Salmon served in a lemon sauce was phenomenal, loved the gazpacho, which was fresh, a dash of heat from the fresh pepper that was offered at the table. Perfect for a warm summer evening. Service is impeccable, friendly, attentive, & patient.
We dined outside, the traffic is minimal on a Thursday night with a pleasant breeze which made dining al fresco a delight. Atmosphere was more intimate & quieter than Leméac across the street that was much more lively.
Ordered the steak & fries & the daily fish. Expect service like if you are eating in France. Sometimes amazing, at other times expect a sprinkle of attitude. I'm ok with that since the food is reasonable priced & delicious. & the French bread is excellent- crispy exteriors & fluffy on the inside.
With the exception of one server (Marie) on the upper level I would rate this place at least a 5. So disappointed that we were not accommodated with English menus but only upon request. She refused to speak in English to us what so ever. Not even trying & we know 100% she could. A member of our 3some is French & she would only look & speak to him. So humiliating & frustrating at best. I am from Montreal & tried my best, she totally refused. We requested an English server & there were many. All were very pleasant but she continued to be our main server unfortunately. I would not return to this establishment knowing this behaviour towards customers was permitted. Our bill was over $325.00 & tipping was only given for the other servers. She would not have been rewarded for such rude & disrespectful behaviour otherwise. The chef was fantastic The Dover Sole Meunière was the best we've had. We made the best of the power outage although someone had stolen our umbrella from the coat room. Seriously people!
Let's start with the food. While French cuisine is known for its elegance & depth of flavor, the offerings at La Cuisine Française were regrettably lackluster. Take, for instance, the beef onglet dish-a staple that should be a showcase of robust flavors & careful preparation. Instead, what arrived at my table was a portion that barely seemed substantial, accompanied by a paltry serving of two beans & five pieces of carrots. This imbalance in portion size not only left me unsatisfied but also questioned the fairness in pricing for what was essentially an incomplete meal. Moreover, inconsistency marred the dining experience further. While an other person at our table received the exact same dish bursting with an abundance of green beans & carrots, which starkly contrasted with the sparse accompaniments on my plate. Such disparity in portioning & presentation not only undermines the credibility of the kitchen but also detracts from the overall dining ambiance. In terms of innovation, Chez Leveque seems to be stagnant. The menu, while featuring classic French dishes, lacks the creative flair & modern twists that could elevate it to a memorable dining experience. French cuisine has evolved significantly over the years, embracing new techniques & ingredients without losing its essence. It is disappointing to see a restaurant with so much potential settle for mediocrity instead of pushing culinary boundaries. Service, though courteous, was not enough to compensate for the culinary shortcomings. Attentiveness from the staff was appreciated, yet the fundamental issue remains: a lack of attention to detail & a failure to deliver on the promise of a truly exceptional French dining experience. Chez Leveque has a long way to go if it wishes to reclaim its potential & stand out in the competitive world of French dining. A revitalized menu that balances tradition with innovation, consistent portion sizes that justify the prices, & a renewed commitment to culinary excellence are essential steps towards achieving this goal. Until then, diners seeking an authentic & satisfying French meal may find themselves disappointed by what this restaurant currently offers
Exquisite French cuisine paired with impeccable service! Each dish was a masterpiece, delighting the palate with amazing flavors. The staff's attention to detail & warm hospitality elevated the entire romantic dining experience with my husband. From the delectable dishes to the thoughtful touch of warming our coats before departure. A five-star well deserved Thank you for this amazing experience!
Simple & so good. Service is amazing & the food is delightful. If you want a real French Brasserie experience, this is it.
Went there for a business lunch amd really loved it. Grrat french cuisine at a reasonable price. Finding parking is the only issue there
It was excellent.
The quality of the food & the atmosphere were what I expected.
The wine selection is very good.
& the restaurant is quite French.
It feels like you are in Paris with excellent service, food execution & European atmosphere.
Both Fish had crispy skin & was flaky
French baguettes crispy crust amd soft like cotton candy on the inside.
They have more famous dishes if you are more adventurous, just google them before going to the restaurant 😉

The three of us had dinner tonight & despite the fact that the food was good, the service was horrible.
The different servings came in way too fast, I had french fried with my course, I asked for mayo, which I never received. We had ordered an expensive bottle of wine, never once, a server came over to pour other than the first glass. We never saw the original server we had, & it looks like everybody else would serve us whenever they would come by or thought about it. Two of us had finished eating while the third person was still eating, & the young server came over & cleaned up everything in front of the two of us, despite the fact that she was told that one of us was still eating. The worst service we had in a long time!
