My new fav Mexican spot in MTL.
The food is crazy good. Well balanced & full of flavour.
The menu is perfectly curated. Every dish is well thought of & you don't have random items in the menu that don't make sense. It all goes so well together.
The drinks are amazing. Their signature cocktails offer flavours I haven't seen anywhere else. & even their classic margarita has zest in it?! Never occurred to me but definitely the best idea ever.
I'll for sure come back & tell everyone about it 💖
Oh & they have a pastor trompo ppl! A MUST!!!View more
Positive point
-food were fresh & good enough
-waiters were really nice & try to do their best
-the decorations is really nice & warm
Negative
-first off we booked a table & when we got there there was no table available so we had to sit at the bar 🙁
-service is disorganized, definitely not short staff & yet not a smooth flow.
- food was correct , it was warm & fresh but i expected more flavor in my food especially with such a small menu.
-food was so not impressive i did not try their dessert but after appetizers & tacos i wasn't expecting much from the dessert section
- mocktail was good, well balance but 75% of it was ice 🧊
Overall not a bad experience, if you like more fancy vibe & cocktail it's not a bad choice.
However if you rather find a good & simple mexican restaurant there is better place within montreal.View more
Lovely place, delicious & authentic Mexican food. Great spot to eat on a Friday night.View more
Best mexican food I've ever had. Staff was also amazing & attentive & there was a vibe going on. Some of the staff were dressed up Cinco de Mayo style.View more
I recently came here with a group of 8. We all had really high expectations based on the amazing reviews. Unfortunately most of us were pretty disappointed. On the plus side, the cocktails were really good, our serveur was nice despite things being really slow, one person in our group really enjoyed the quesadillas, & there was a DJ playing good music which created a nice vibe. On the downside, the tacos were really saucy & overloaded making the tortillas soggy & broken, so they were hard to eat. The batter on the fish tacos was soggy & not crispy. They don't offer any guacamole & chips which is really uncommon for a Mexican restaurant serving tacos. Finally, one of the desserts was pictured as having a crispy taco shell & it came with something soft & completely different than was described.View more
Amazing food, amazing service, amazing fun atmosphere! Would recommend to anyone looking for good authentic Mexican food!!View more
The taste of the food is OK, however the portions are not enough as well as the prices high. Missing authentic mexican experience. Service is super bad, very slow, we had to wait for the waiters to come more than 35min. I will not recommend this place.View more
What a wonderful experience we had at Caifan. The food the was excellent, an elevated Mexican experience! The service was amazing, & the drinks were well crafted, we'll be going back!View more
Best cocktails I've had at a Mexican restaurant in Montreal. Clean & refined tacos & Mexican food. Recommend.View more
Great Venue, great location with friendly staff. I think this place is not your mainstream Mexican cuisine, but rather a historic take on classic recipes you may not find everywhere. I'm no expert on Mexican cuisine, but to be frank, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for the day we came in, simply because I was expecting large portion, & bold seasoning & flavors, but instead got more refined, earthy & smaller sized dishes. I'd say come here well dressed, & with a group for a relaxed brunch, & not after six hours of driving, starved, from Ontario. Would recommend otherwise.View more
I'm not well versed with high end Mexican cuisine so my review should be taken with a grain of salt. Atmosphere is very nice. Beautiful decor. Food was good, but nothing I see myself going back for. Service was as good as it could be when you only have 1 waitress working (terrace was full but only 2 tables inside, ours being one). We didn't try any of their specialty drinks. I simply had a vodka cranberry. Way too long to get drinks at our table. 1st drink took upwards of 15 minutes to arrive. I ordered another drink for my wife & myself after a couple of appetizers arrived. By the very end of our meal our drinks still were t ready. We had to cance them because we were ready to leave. I know they take pride in their drinks but perhaps you should have a faster solution when making simple drinks that can be done in a matter of seconds, like a vodka cran. Cool place, fresh tasty food, but with the explosion of Mexican restos in recent years I don't think I'll be going back to this one..View more
Amazing mexican restaurant! Traditional flavors with a new twist. It's spicy, flavorful, & intense. The portions are not copious but they would be too heavy if they were. The presentation & the ingredients are outstanding. Drinks are incredibly good too (& super strong). The service was great. Caifan & Piel Canela don't cease to impress me. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.View more
Food was beyond this world. They transformed typical Mexican food into an art piece. Quesadilla El Gobernador & Pozole de mariscos were so filling & deliiiiicious. A must-try!View more
I had a great experience at Caifan Mtl, the modern interpretation of Mexican cuisine was very enjoyable. It was a memorable meal that was accompanied by great service. A big thank you to Quentin for providing exceptional services. A real pro that made sure our meal went accordingly.View more
CAIFAN is a urban style Mexican restaurant with authentic soul in the heart of Le Plateau offering unique Mexican cuisine & cocktail. Surprising your eyes & taste from the "Entradas", "Quesadillas", "Costars de queso", "Especiales" & "Tacos" ending with creative "Postres". If you like graffiti, must check in here to appreciate the mural art from @teetzworld. If you like the cocktails & vibe @barrancomtl. @caifan_mtl is your "must-go place. They also have a big VIP space with your own bar for your special day & functional event.View more
We've tried a lot of Mexican food in our travels but the flavours here were something completely different & creative in a such a delicious way. The cocktails were excellent. We had the pork belly appetizer (so tender) & the stuffed jalapeno, & I had the pulled pork quesadilla & my husband the Res tacos - both mains were so good & again, very interesting & elevated flavours that we were pleasantly surprised. Our server Quentin was very friendly & attentive, unfortunately for some reason the kitchen was slow with our food this evening when everyone around us was getting served their orders, so not sure what happened there. We were out on the terrace which was great on a warm Montreal evening. The value of the meal was excellent as well in our opinion, for the quality of the food, the dishes were really well priced. If we lived here we'd be regulars, but we'll definitely tell our local friends & colleagues about this place & recommend they all try it. Thank you! 🙏🏽View more
My boyfriend & I tried this Mexican restaurant recently & arrived to find it was not that crowded so we were seated promptly. We opted for costras de res (beef cheese mix like a crunchy tortillas) it was really good & flavory. For the drinks we opted for classic magarita & the Mayahuel (sweet with rhum) Staff was nice, over all great experience will come back again!View more
Amazing place with authentic mexican food. Love the decoration & presentationView more
What a terrific experience! The vibe of this restaurant is so great, their bar is beautiful, the food is DELICIOUS & super authentic (they have so much more than just tacos on the menu - try some other typical Mexican dishes!) & the service -- wow! The team is all so friendly, & they are clearly being managed with lots of love & care. Portions could be a tinyyy bit bigger for the price, but won't clock them for it. Hope to see Caifan remain as a staple on St. Denis for many years to come!View more
If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine look no further. Coming to Montreal from California , it has been a long difficult search for something even remotely close to the amazing Mexican cuisine. Caifan delivers! The bartender Johnny is knowledgeable & his cocktails take you to another place! The chef & Arturo the bar manager took it above & beyond with suggestions & telling us about brunch that is designed by an all female staff (love that!) please give this place a try. You won't be disappointed :)View more
This place is a gem! Im so happy to finally see good Mexican restaurants opening in Montreal. The food is delicious, the drinks are to die for, & the service is impeccable! Worth the visit!View more
We had such a lovely evening at this restaurant! Service was great, cool ambience & delicious drinks. As a Mexican, I was a bit disappointed tacos didn't come with limón & charged us for hot sauce on the side.View more
This is overall not a good value. 3 Pastor tacos for 18$. Pork belly entry with 4 small pieces for 17$. Everything was good, not amazing. Tacos are supposed to be cheap & delicious street food. Then, charging 8$ for hot sauces felt again like we are trying to squeeze to the maximum the customers' lemon. Mocktails were 13$, & the less expensive cocktail at 16$? Yeah, we stayed with water thank you. I understand there is inflation & restaurant is a difficult business to operate, but this value proposition is off for anyone who already knows Mexican food.View more
The atmosphere is great & it has a modern Mexican feel! The food was great but somehow the portions can improve (considering the price). We were a bit surprised they charged for the salsa we asked for, especially given the quantity. Being a Mexican & used to have all sorts of salsas on the table at no cost, this just doesn't make sense. My brother ordered a beer & it took 2 reminders for him to finally get it. In general it was a great experience & we very much enjoyed the ambience.View more
Amazing Mexican Restaurant in MTL. Experiencing the vibrant charm of this Mexican restaurant was delightful. The ambiance transported me to a lively Mexican street with colorful décor & festive music, adding an authentic touch to the dining experience. The service was exceptional; the staff was friendly, attentive, & knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. As for the food, the quality was outstanding. Each dish showcased fresh ingredients & bold flavors, staying true to authentic Mexican cuisine. From classic tacos to sizzling fajitas, every bite was a burst of deliciousness. The variety of cocktails was impressive. The bar offered an extensive selection of margaritas, each uniquely crafted & bursting with flavors. The diverse options catered to different tastes, & the mixologists were skilled in creating exquisite drinks that perfectly complemented the meal.View more
I'm Latino to begin with. Food wasn't that bad but too expansive for the portions. I've been to cheaper, more tasty, & bigger portions per order places in Montreal. Now, where they really lost me was on the service!! It was horrible!! I asked for extra limes more than once to different waiters & never got it. The waiter wasn't properly informed about their own menu. There's an option where you can add extra tacos for an extra fee. We asked for it & she said it was too late. &!!!!! They had no agua de horchata like!!!! The place ain't authentic at all. Almost forget, they charge you for a tiny sauce which in any other Mexican restaurant is free & the waitress said it was included!!!!!! I'll go make my own tacos !View more
Great New Mexican spot in the Plateau. Service was very memorable because it was extremely fast! Also, make sure you listen to the waiters when they say it's tapas & the portions are small. 2 people can easily finish 4 dishes. Since the restaurant is only 3 weeks old, I'm sure there will be some changes to the menu - I'm really hoping they substitute the tortillas for tortilla chips for their salsa platter & maybe even adding a guacamole to the menu. Highly recommend going here on a date or with friends, they have great cocktails too!View more
