My new fav Mexican spot in MTL.
The food is crazy good. Well balanced & full of flavour.
The menu is perfectly curated. Every dish is well thought of & you don't have random items in the menu that don't make sense. It all goes so well together.
The drinks are amazing. Their signature cocktails offer flavours I haven't seen anywhere else. & even their classic margarita has zest in it?! Never occurred to me but definitely the best idea ever.
I'll for sure come back & tell everyone about it 💖

Quality food with attention to detail & good principles.
The pork belly was extremely good, the tacos I tried were upscaled & delicious. Definitely what I would expect from taking street food & turning it into fancy cooking. Will not disappoint.
I did not care that much for the white chocolate dessert (that is mostly on me, I am not a fan of white chocolate) & the creme brulee was good but not mind blowing.
The drinks felt expensive. But aren't they always in Montreal.
The service was lovely, attentive, & knew their food. Bravo!View more
We visited the restaurant &, while the overall experience was pleasant, there was a small miscommunication regarding one of our drinks, which turned out much sweeter than expected. The waiter kindly offered to prepare a new one, but I declined, not wanting to waste the original drink. I did ask if the sweetness could be adjusted, but unfortunately, they weren't able to do so. Instead, they provided me with soda & lemon to adjust it myself - a thoughtful gesture, but not quite the level of service one would expect from a full bar.
In situations like this, it would have been appreciated if the bartender had either personally helped adjust the drink or proactively suggested a better solution. More disappointing, however, was the lack of consideration on the final bill - the drink was still fully charged, despite my efforts to compromise & ultimately not enjoy it.
While I appreciate the small attempts made, it would have been much more meaningful to see greater proactiveness in ensuring guest satisfaction, especially for customers who are mindful about minimizing waste. A little more kindness & flexibility in service would have made all the difference.View more

I planned my husbands birthday in the private room at Caifan & we did the tasting menu & I can honestly say every SINGLE dish was absolutely delicious! All our guests LOVED the food. Caifan definitely has customers for life! Full of flavour & truly amazing! Not only the food was amazing but the drinks were to die for! Their signature margarita was my personal favourite!
The service & atmosphere was also impeccable! We could not ask for a better night! The staff was so attentive & so kind, we could not recommend this restaurant more!

I ate at Caifan many years ago, & I seem to recall it was a small joint with a few tables & a very authentic menu. The tacos were so delicious. So, I thought maybe they renovated & was excited to give it another try. Based on what I experienced, I'm not sure they are affiliated at all. Let's start with the good: 1) the drinks were delicious. 2) the servers were very kind & attentive 3) our jalapeno & pork belly appetizers were yummy. The not-so-good: 1) For a place that specializes in tacos, & considering there are a small number on the menu, I expected them to have more complexity & flavour. Were it just that, I would probably have given four stars. But all of our tacos were really salty! Everyone in our dinner party said the same thing.View more

My husband & I went to Caifan for dinner on a Thursday evening just after arriving into Montreal (we drove, so we were tired of being in the car & were really hungry). The staff was friendly & welcoming when we arrived & we were quickly shown to our table (we did have a reservation). Our server came to the table shortly after we sat down & took our drink orders, I had the Cubanita & my husband had the Valdiosera, both cocktails were fantastic. For an appetizer, we had the octopus tostada which was good, the sauce overpowered the octopus a little & it was just a touch overcooked, but not horribly. We then had two types of tacos, the gobernador & arrachera, both were tasty, but we liked the arrachera just a little better. The beef was so flavorful & all the toppings on the taco complemented the meat perfectly. The gobernador tacos were good, but they were a little light on the shrimp so there were more toppings/sauces than actual shrimp. We also had the cochinita pibil wrapped in cheese with black bean puree & all sorts of toppings/sauces. It was absolutely the best thing we had all evening. The meat was tender & had so much flavor, all the sauces were wonderful & the toasty cheese around the outside of the meat was nutty & had great texture. For dessert, our server recommended the Lokito, which was white chocolate in the shape of an ear of corn filled with corn cream & it also had pumpkin ganache & tajin. At first I thought the tajin was a little strange on a dessert but by after a few bites I really appreciated the tanginess & spice it brought to the dish. Our server was very patient with us not speaking French & did the best she could to communicate with us (we did a lot of pointing at the menu to order, which worked just fine). She kept our water glasses full & we never had to wait very long for anything. Overall, we would be happy to return & enjoyed our experience!View more

I'm not well versed with high end Mexican cuisine so my review should be taken with a grain of salt. Atmosphere is very nice. Beautiful decor. Food was good, but nothing I see myself going back for. Service was as good as it could be when you only have 1 waitress working (terrace was full but only 2 tables inside, ours being one). We didn't try any of their specialty drinks. I simply had a vodka cranberry. Way too long to get drinks at our table. 1st drink took upwards of 15 minutes to arrive. I ordered another drink for my wife & myself after a couple of appetizers arrived. By the very end of our meal our drinks still were t ready. We had to cance them because we were ready to leave. I know they take pride in their drinks but perhaps you should have a faster solution when making simple drinks that can be done in a matter of seconds, like a vodka cran. Cool place, fresh tasty food, but with the explosion of Mexican restos in recent years I don't think I'll be going back to this one..View more

Amazing mexican restaurant! Traditional flavors with a new twist. It's spicy, flavorful, & intense. The portions are not copious but they would be too heavy if they were. The presentation & the ingredients are outstanding. Drinks are incredibly good too (& super strong). The service was great. Caifan & Piel Canela don't cease to impress me. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.View more

La nourriture était excellente! Mais pour ce qui est du service... ce n'était clairement pas le rush cette soirée là & puis le serveur était peu présent pendant la soirée. Commander à nouveau des drinks a été une tâche ardue, parce que soit que le serveur n'était juste pas à la terrasse, soit qu'il passait vite fait à une autre table sans prendre considération la nôtre. Aussi, attendre 30 minutes pour avoir la facture alors qu'on la demandé 2 fois est inacceptable. J'ai vraiment été déçue par le service, alors que je suis déjà venue pour le brunch & mon expérience était out of this world!View more

The food was delicious, the drinks were on point, the staff very friendly & hospitable. The music isn't too loud which allows you to have a conversation without yelling. Small portion size, you can't serve someone a 3 course meal & have them still hungry. The service & atmosphere were both great. Drinks were amazing, slightly overpriced (17-20$) but still very worth it. Food tasted good but there's a major issue with portioning. We were two people ordering the shrimp appetizer, both types of beef tacos (total of 6 tacos, 3 each), & a dessert at the end for a total of 120$. For that price, I'm not expecting to still be hungry at the end of the meal. Increase the number of tacos or add a side dish to the mains, even if you have to increase the price. I would 100% revisit for drinks & an appetizer, not a for a meal.View more
