I've been up & down Wellington to find a coffeeshop that checks off all my boxes & even though I haven't found it yet, there's one box that matters the most to me & it's the customer service.

By far, HUGO IS THE BEST BARISTA ON WELLINGTON! Yeah, I said it. Not only does he know how to make a great cup of coffee/matcha latte, but he knows how to turn a one time customer into a regular!

He does this by consistently meeting you where you're at. What this looks like is engaging with his customers, getting to know them, ensuring that he's making them exactly what they want by asking questions & continuously iterating it to their preferred taste. When he serves it to you, you can tell he gave his best effort to your beverage & when he picks up your empty cup, he truly hoped you enjoyed it.

& even towards the end of the day, if you're in a deep work flow or conversation, he doesn't rush you out & allows you to come to the end smoothly.

That level of care should be the standard for all coffeeshops, but I'm just grateful that he's in my neighbourhood.

Coffee & snacks are good. A bit expensive. They do not get refilled during the day so there's often not much choices left in the afternoon for pastries. I'm not always convinced with the service, however. The baristas are nice but they don't seem too concerned when there is a line up & coffee prep is slow. I have sometimes experienced waiting in a line of 4-5 people, 2 baristas but only 1 at the counter... & yeah, I know they have to refill & clean, etc... however, although I don't expect ultra fast but I still think it's a bit much to wait 7-10 minutes for a coffee AFTER having paid... So, yeah, I'd recommend it but only if you're not in a hurry. Nice plants.
