Review Summary

Cafè In Gamba is described as having excellent coffee and a welcoming, laid back vibe with a cozy seating area and a sunny terrace that captures the Montreal atmosphere; reviewers praise friendly, knowledgeable staff who can tailor drinks and keep the pace during busy rushes, as well as a wide selection of roasted beans to buy by the bag, pastries and seasonal drinks like pumpkin spice lattes and caramel beverages, with favorites including cranberry gluten free cookies, muffins and biscotti; the cafe is seen as a great spot to study or meet friends, with comfortable sofas and a no computer policy that some find refreshing; the coffee is described as strong, flavorful and among the best in Montreal, though one review notes a service misstep where a latte was dropped and the response did not fully compensate the customer; overall the place is praised for atmosphere, value, and consistent quality, with many highlighting the terrace and inviting interior.

Hands down some of the best coffee I have ever had. So smooth & creamy just excellent quality beans. Friendly baristas & a lively environment. Absolutely love everything about this place.

This is my top coffee spot in the montreal!!! Not only do they have the best coffee, the staff is absolutely incredible. They are so friendly & chatty but also super efficient! I was there during a big rush & they were able to make coffees in record time while keeping the atmosphere light & laid back. Huge shout out to the tall, blonde barista.... I forgot her name but she is the best!!!! Also i love the cranberry gluten free cookie, its addicting :) I highly recommend this cafe to study or meet with a friend. I also often visit the other locations, you can call me a gamba enthusiast !

Barista au top. Je suis toujours à les embêté en faisant des boissons personnalisés car je n'aime pas le café & ils arrivent toujours à trouver quelque chose que j'aime & ils sont vraiment fin avec moi. J'adore y retourner encore & encore

This used to be my fav spot in the mile end, I have being going there for a decade. I'm also the type to never leave reviews but I couldn't believe how rude this chick was. I was with my daughter & we had a busy day but enough time to grab a coffee. Well it was just me in line & one other person. The barista was chatting up a storm & after 15 mins of just straight waiting while she yapped, I politely said I was in a rush. Instead of apologizing for the fact that she was socializing instead of serving me, she bluntly looked in my face & told me the area had plenty of coffee shops available to me. Well she's right, there are & now they get all my business.

Great baristas who are trained in making great coffee. Also provide a wide selection of roasted coffee types from around the world that you can buy by the bag, which the staff is very knowledgeable of.

Good coffee, Service fails when it matters most.

The coffee at Café In Gamba is excellent, which is the only reason this isn't a one-star review.

However, my experience this past Saturday highlighted a profound gap in their understanding of customer service.

After the barista accidentally dropped an entire hot latte on me, soaking my clothes, staining my running shoes, & drenching my watch, a quick'sorry' was offered. But that's where the service ended. What might have seemed like a trivial accident to the staff had a very real cost for me:

- $15 for two coffees, including the one I was now wearing (the gave me another one).
- Two hours of a beautiful Saturday lost, driving from Mile End to my home in Pierrefonds & back just to change clothes.
- An hour late to an important appointment that was just five minutes from the café.
- A pair of stained shoes & orthopedic soles.

I simply cannot comprehend the mindset of apologizing for such a major inconvenience & then, still needing to pay for the coffee. A true apology is backed by action. The smallest gesture, comping the drinks, offering a pastry, would have shown that you value your customers' time & experience. Instead, I left feeling that my considerable trouble was worth less than the price of a coffee. I sincerely hope this serves as a lesson for management on what true service recovery looks like. This needs to be addressed in staff training…

My favorurite coffee shop in the city by far! Unbelievable coffee (their cortados & mochas are particularly delicious) & very yummy croissants. The best part about Gamba, though, are the baristas! Everyone is so kind & has a great sense of humour. ♥️

I have been going to Caffè in Gamba for years! Since they expanded & renovated (& one of the partners started his own venture in Little Italy) their customer service has gone downhill. Today, I bumped into a neighborhood friend & was chatting. As she was leaving I went to get my coffee & was ordered by the barista to sit where she was sitting, when I had already made myself a space. I told him that they were about to leave & we had just bumped into each other. That I had come because I had work to do. He proceeded to order me to sit there again. I decided to leave instead. Ending my relationship with the establishment. Do they have great coffee? Yes. Is it a beautiful place to sit & work? Yes. Do I want to support a business that has 0 sense of customer service? Absolutely not.

While when you walk in past the pretty terrasse, the lineup, to the left, of serious geriatric students of the internet are a little imposing (unless it is there is a seat for YOU & your MAC), this place (equipped with TWO pristine & functioning bathrooms! You could use both!) is pretty much a temple to good coffee (& good cheer). The baristas are charming & charmingly precise with their drinks, & never once have I had a milky flower design on my coffee that didn't seem absolutely necessary. True, it ain't free, but the cortado (providing they are using a servicable bean) is pretty superlative. Baked goods, good for the neighborhood, but croissants often deflated & somewhat salty. That said, it is EXCEEEDLY rare to find a flaky fresh croissant, in part because they are too MORTAL a pastry. The place used to be a little monastic with...what do you call them, teleworkers? But in recent years the vibe is good, the patio upbeat & fillled with pretty people in the good times, & the proximity to the SAQ just perf.
