We went to this coffee shop last week, & truly loved it! Tony (one of the owners) was very kind to help us pick some of their coffee beans they sell as they roast their own beans (Ambros Coffee Co). Looking forward to go back & try more of their in house specialty coffees & matcha & some more beans. The atmosphere is lovely & the staff are all very knowledgeable & welcoming. Highly recommend if you are in Montreal
I absolutely love this coffee shop. Their matcha & coffee are both incredible, super smooth, rich, & consistent every time. The service is amazing & the staff is very attentive & friendly. I also love that they sell their own coffee beans & matcha powder, so you can bring the same great flavor home. The vibe is cozy, everything is fresh, & it has quickly become one of my favorite places!
I came into café alphabet expecting to experience one of the best's coffee shops in Montreal. I was a little disappointed, sadly.
We ordered two matcha lattes with oat milk & one hot Freddo coffee as well as two biscotti, one almond cookie & one salt chocolate chip cookie.
I didn't enjoy the matcha lattes. As soon as I tasted the matcha I knew it was camellia sinensis. Then I turned around & guess what they were selling… camellia sinensis matcha. I feel like it tasted cheap & powdery or dry. It wasn't creamy. I would recommend for them to try the matcha from Monsieur thé or @Matcha for a richer matcha menu. The camellia one is very underwhelming in my opinion. Both drinks weren't really hot , they were leaning more towards ambient temperature/cold which surprised me since I saw them doing it in front of me.
The Freddo coffee (which they are famous for) was alright. The grains they use have an actually enjoyable & distinct taste. The coffee was good & the taste was particular to them. Sadly I didn't feel like the foam was foamy enough, the minute I started sipping it disintegrated, & it didn't really add to the overall taste of the coffee. It felt like a normal latte. I honestly would like to try their latte & see if I could taste the difference between the two.
The cookies were alright. I didn't enjoy the chocolate chip & salt one, I felt like the chocolate chips they used weren't dark enough so the salt overpowered the cookie & it ended up tasting like a butter & salt cookie instead. The almond cookie & the biscotti were good.
The music was a bit loud & the coffee shop was pretty packed even tho we came in the afternoon. It didn't feel like a comfortable ambiance. Not really a place to relax or have a calm conversation after a walk. It felt like a New York coffee shop.
The service was pretty good, the guys were smiling & explaining the menu to us even though there was people waiting in line, which I appreciated.
Overall I wasn't surprised & I don't think this is a coffee shop for everyone.

Tried the Freddo Cap & it did not disappoint. Not an option you see at most coffee shops & the outside seating area is great for a quick stop to enjoy your coffee.
I slept on this cafe for such a long time because it always seemed to be too busy to go inside & Omg am I kicking myself for that. Yes, it's busy, with good reason!!
The staff are so welcoming & kind & for how busy it is, that is so impressive; every customer gets their moment & it is so appreciated, thank you!
The espresso is fantastic, from roast to the dial in, it always seems consistent & the barristas are well trained (I've been about 5 times now & I'm never disappointed with the espresso's notes/balance)
The milk consistency is also so so so good, I just had the best flat white I've ever had in Montreal & I've managed two specialty coffee shops in the past 5 years so that's really saying something.
Alphabet is raising the bar for Montreal coffee standards & I'm very excited to keep coming back!
If you're a matcha lover, this coffee shop is a game-changer! The matcha is top-notch - smooth & perfectly balanced. Whether you go for a classic matcha latte or something more adventurous like matcha lemonade, every sip is heavenly. The vibe is cozy & modern, with friendly staff. Plus, pastries they offer is unique & delicious. Prices are fair, especially considering the quality.

Came into a busy shop on Boxing Day. They served the line up quickly. The tables cleared out by the time we got our drinks. The Freddo Noel (hot) is a delicious peppermint coffee. The hot chocolate was perfect. Their frothed milk is the creamiest I have ever seen. Friendly & efficient service. Wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.

A staff was very good & enthusiastic (English speaking man, seems to be Italian?). I ordered a dirty chai freddo at first & gave a tip, but the taste was not for me, I didn't like it, I took a sip & returned it to the staff. I didn't ask them to remake it or compensate. The English speaking staff took the initiative to call me back & remade a sugar-free latte for me. He did a good job! I was not in a good mood at first, but he made me a new sugar-free latte & I felt his attitude & his enthusiasm. He said "they are happy if the customers are happy." I don't really care about a cup of coffee (I am a serious coffee lover), I think his attitude is very good & I am happy. I don't particularly like the taste of your coffee shop, but I like the attitude of this staff.
Vibes are good outside in the sun & the viral matcha freddo with the foam is good, especially the foam, but quite sweet, so maybe ask for less sweet if you don't like your drinks too sweet. But we waited for it for like a good 20-30 minutes... wouldn't do that again... there's enough other good coffee shops in mtl IMO... ya sure you don't get a little foam pour show by a hot barista everywhere but like... 🤷🏼♀️
I'm new to the city & still exploring, but the drinks at this café have truly captured my taste buds! I stumbled upon it while searching for the best coffee shops in Montreal, & since it was in a neighborhood I hadn't visited yet, I thought, "Why not?" Little did I know that I would return for their Freddo Matcha, & then I discovered their specialty drink, the Greek Freddo Cappuccino, which I also loved & became my second favorite. Since it's not super close to me, I usually spend a few hours there working & enjoying my drinks. I get both drinks every time I am there & a fresh pastry on the side. Beyond the amazing drinks & pastries, the warm atmosphere really draws you in. The staff are incredibly friendly as well as the owners, remembering your name & favorite drink, making you feel like part of the community. I usually try every place once, maximum twice, & then move on to discover new spots, but I can't resist coming back here. The taste of their drinks is something I look forward to every time, & since I am still a bit homesick, this place makes me feel welcomed & at ease. They consistently deliver great quality & appreciate all their customers. Thank you, Alphabet!

I visited Café Alphabet for the first time yesterday after seeing it all over social media, & I WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK! I tried the matcha, even though I'm not usually a fan, & IT WAS AMAZING. But what truly sets Alphabet apart isn't just the incredible drinks; it's the people. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles & a genuine sense of hospitality. They take the time to make sure every cup is perfect, & you can tell they really care about & enjoy what they do. The aesthetic inside is stunning, & between their unique coffee blends & trendy merch, I honestly felt like I had been transported to a coffee shop in Greece!
