Review Summary

Cabane à sucre Au Pied de Cochon offers a festive cabin atmosphere and a creative, indulgent multi course sugar shack experience that blends traditional Quebec dishes with a French influence. Guests consistently praise the generous portions and the option to bring leftovers home in containers. The meals unfold in a four course rhythm with amuse bouche, starter, main and dessert, presented for sharing and paced to allow time between courses. The vibe is warm and convivial, though it can be lively and noisy, and some guests report waiting outside for pm seats in winter. Service is generally friendly and attentive, but a few reviews note inconsistency or delays when the room is busy. Menu highlights and signature items such as the foie gras cornet, pithivier and creme brulee are described as extraordinary, while a handful of dishes are criticized for being overly salty or heavy. Price and portion remarks vary, with some saying portions have shrunk while prices rose. Still, the overall experience is memorable and often recommended, especially for groups, with the seasonal menu repeatedly drawing guests back.

Drove up from Boston after making a reservation a month ago for a Friday night 8pm dinner seating. We had no idea what to expect but when we arrived there was a bonfire outside & a table to buy canned drinks while you waited. Loved the fire! The 5pm seating was running a bit late so we hung out for a bit & were seated at 820ish. We were a table of 2. Would go back with a large group since the menu is family style & the ambiance of the restaurant feels best for a group dinner!
We sat at the bar & Max the bartender was awesome - super attentive & made the experience even better.
The food was amazing, & we took home quite a bit of leftovers. We had no idea what to expect since you don't receive a menu & were told to pace ourselves but it is hard when everything is so good! Every dish was different & creative, playing on the seasonal ingredients of late September. The wine list was extensive & we went with a bottle that was amazing, as well as a cocktail & espresso to end the evening. Our favorite dishes happened to be the first two amouse bouches of the evening! 10/10 would recommend & go back.

Experienced the end of harvest dinner. There were a couple stand out dishes like the bison carpaccio, the ratatouille tart & the tomato soup. All of the other dishes were ok however the fennel salad was bland. Service was mixed- some waiters were attentive while others forgot to replace our cutlery in two occasions (while at other tables it was done right away) or asked the same question over & over, clearly having a miss communication. The drinks, specially the margarita, were on point though- kudos to the bartender.

Had a lovely time with friends here last night.

The food was great; not quite fine-dining, but definitely upscale compared to your average sugar shack, fusing traditional cabane dishes with a lot of French influence, fois gras & pithivier & millefeulle etc.

Service was very friendly (even to our mostly-anglophone group), & the pacing of the meal was great. Ultimately they grouped the dishes into four courses - 2x amuse-bouche, 3x appetizer, 4x main course, 4x dessert - with a good amount of time between each set of dishes.

Be prepared to wait outside for a while. We booked for 8:30pm but were not seated until 9:10pm. I don't really blame the cabane for this - like, what are they going to do, order other guests to get out? - but you'll want to have plenty of time. In the winter, wrap up warm; they had a fire going & were selling hot cider.

Many reviews mentioned bringing takeout containers. Most of the dishes are served in the centre of the table & shared, so the amount of leftovers will depend on your group size. Our group of 10 finished everything comfortably, with enough for everyone to try a bit of every dish but no leftovers. If you're just a group of 2 then the takeout containers will be more useful.

it was our first time (2 ppl) at the au pied de cochon's cabane à sucre & we left with a good experience but wouldn't return as it wasn't suitable for our palette. we arrived for our reservation time at 8:30 pm & left at 11:30 pm. pros: - meal highlights: tomato tart, butternut squash soup, burrata + fruit salad, pork + duck shepherd's pie & carrot cake - our servers/bartenders (we were seated at the bar) were friendly, & explained all our dishes clearly. they also had quick water pouring service! very impressive - generous amount of food - we took home 3 tupperwares - a new & nice experience for us - fire outside to keep folks warm cons: - does not accommodate dietary restrictions (which is highlighted on the website) - upon arrival it was hard to get ahold of the host to notify her that we were there as she was running around & very busy - we were seated at the bar where it was hard to get in & out of the seats due to the heavy chairs, so our servers would need to physically come from behind to push us into our seats - despite the above mentioned, people were constantly pressing into my seat & i was being knocked - with our menu highlights in mind, it didn't seem like the meal was too worth it because we weren't too big of a fan of the other dishes - my personal take: i learned from this meal that im not a fan of foie gras, which is a staple & included in several dishes

This is 3rd dining experience here but sadly it will be the last. Service wasn't great. The table wasn't ready when we arrived, it took a good 30 minutes before they took our drinks order, we had to chase servers for cutlery twice once shown the hand by one of the servers. Last "hot" food service was not hot & we had to waive for a server to explain dishes.

Didn't love the food, at all. We enjoyed one dish (the fish) & the others were all OK. Overcooked rabbit, soogy salad. Desserts were really disappointing. I was hoping the desserts would be delicious but got 3 desserts & one was good, other 2 were sub par. You need to be an adventurous eater. Fois gras, blood pouding, rabbit, duck, creton etc. Creative dishes but didn't deliver in good flavour & a lot of food but not well balanced at all. Also why do they bring 3 dishes at a time? Was really hoping for a better meal for my husbands birthday.

Reservation this year was online starting on Dec 1st. You can reserve for 2 people, but you'll seated at the bar. I've never had such a decadent sugar shack experience, literally foie gras in 1/3 of all the dishes. It was delicious & was stuffed by the time the entrees came. The waiters were bustling everywhere but still took the time to explain each item & filled out cups. The great thing is that you can bring your own Tupperware to bring it back.

We dined here on the second night of this year's sugar season. We were the last reservation of the night & had arrived early as we were eager to experience the fare, but were unfortunately seated 15 minutes past our designated time because our table had not been cleared in a timely manner. We figured that they would start kitchen service as soon as possible due to the delay to compensate for the wait, but were only served our first course 15 minutes after we had been sat, now half an hour behind our expected dining time. The service was extremely slow & awkward. There was no synergy between the staff, who were bumping into each other & miscommunicating all throughout the night when they weren't busy chatting with each other at the back. We perceived that we were being neglected despite being in the middle of the restaurant, & at times this seemed deliberate. The menu online is completely different than what was served, so I am unable to reference the dishes in the photos. The first few courses showed promise as they were very creative, but disappointingly the mains that followed got heavier & less balanced as the night went on. We found it difficult to pace with so many of the large plates containing beans & meat with nothing on the side to complement, & the portions were simultaneously too much & yet not enough. Overall, would not recommend. We drove from Toronto to experience this & left very disappointed.
