pub(121) fish(75) drink(61) fish & chips(44) beer(38) tea(36) recommend(35) selection(33) vibe(31) group(31) game(29) whisky(29)Went for trivia & the host hated our team name but gave us sour patch kids so that made up for it. Good mushy peas perfectly mushed the way they do it in England innit! Wish I took a clipping from the plant wall because they were getting quite overgrown but maybe it's morally better that I didn't
Perfect place to enjoy Sunday morning PL football games. Great atmosphere.
I really enjoyed the vibe at Burgundy Lion. It's a casual spot with good food & drinks. We went during happy hour & took advantage of the drink specials. The place got a little loud as it got busier but that is to be expected.
Im asked to talk about my High Tea experience (55$/pers)...
Well I would invite the kitchen to double check the definition of high tea online (more of a meal, vegetables, meat...), & also how scones are ALWAYS service with (cream, jam...).
Also, at 55$ per person, with 2 kids (who im paying 55$ each)... usually you can substitute tea for juice. I even substitute for a cappuccino elsewhere, no charge!.
There were 8 people in our party. Reservations were very easy to make online. Food was delicious. Modifications on the Bienfaisance drink to suit my alcohol preference was suggested by Tony, our waiter - & it was refreshingly tasty . Tony was very pleasant & attentive. Despite the vibrantly happy noise level, a wonderful dinner before a show was had by all!!!
Came in for a footy match, vibe was there with a crowd cheering for their team. Good pints, crisp fish & chips & excellent cock-a-leekie soup 🍲
Stopped here for dinner after a show at the corona theatre. I'm always wary of ordering fish & chips somewhere since a lot of places in the city really don't know how to make it well, & I get served a soggy mess with flavourless batter. This place, though? Easily some of the best fish & chips you'll find in the city. Crispy batter down to the last bite & delicious chips. It's well out of my area so I'm not sure when I'll be back, but if I'm in the area I'm absolutely going back for those fish & chips!
2025 edit:
Today I came for brunch! My first visit back from my initial review. Though the fish & chips were on the brunch menu & very tempting, I wanted something a little lighter in the morning & chose the shakshouka instead.
The poached eggs were absolutely perfect, runny like I like them. The cumin yogurt made the entire dish so creamy & delicious once you mixed it all together. The roasted garlic was so soft & spreading it on the sourdough toast & dipping it into the dish lead to a pefect bite each time. I only wish the dish had a little bit more heat, since shakshouka I've had other places has a bit of kick.
I do wish I lived closer so I could try more of the food. I'd love to try the full English breakfast. Hopefully I can return sooner than later!
Been going to burgundy lion for years. Music was too loud. Staff was friendly. It was too loud music to chat…left after a drink. Still a great spot though.
Food was just OK, although special mention on the fries which were very good. Place is super loud - very difficult to have any sort of conversation - louder than a typical pub style restaurant.
We hosted a birthday party there (50 people) & everyone loved the place!! They have a beautiful private space. The food was great & the staff is friendly. I got the mac & cheese & it was so good! Would definitely recommend Burgundy Lion!
Food was hit or miss - some things were good but the burrata was horrible. Service was great & great place to watch the hockey game
