I find the food to be excellent quality for the price point & have had many lovely excursions. This evening however was such a bummer. I'm leaving this as feedback so hopefully it can be addressed. Friday night, summer vibes. Came to BL with a table of friends for bevs. There was a DJ, which should have been the red flag. The music was SO LOUD no one could hear each other, it was all millennial hits from middle school (I don't mind that fully, as a millennial it's nostalgic) yet there's no dance floor, so what's the point? We are here to chat & have background music. It was srsly so, so loud. & it was all dudes. When did BL become a meat market? Finally, I had 3 cocktails - they were all awful 😞 the margarita was so sour, like lime-aid heavy but no balance w simple syrup. I had a vodka martini'a little bit dirty' it was nearly pure olive brine, so over salty. I had the French something, sour again, a bit lukewarm, no balance again. If this was my first time I'd give one star it was so bad. The staff did their best but the service was still chaotic, sparse. I love BL but this was a true dive bar experience - without dive bar pricing. I hope this does not repeat. Will need some breathing room before returning, hopefully future experiences redeem this local staple. Please don't ruin a good thing.
This place is a classic. The food has definitely changed over the years, but you can't go wrong with a burger or fish & chips. Also the bangers & mash are so good. The staff is great too & the vibes are awesome.
The best pub vibes in Montreal. The new menu is a big improvement. Adding some more shareable plates like nachos & vegetables & dip would be HUGE.
I recently had a wonderful afternoon tea experience at Burgundy Lion. If you are looking for a relaxing spot to chat & enjoy some great treats, this is a fantastic choice.
The Atmosphere
We sat on the second floor, which is beautifully decorated like a greenhouse. With the glass roof & plenty of lush green leaves, the vibe was perfect for a long catch-up with friends. It felt bright, airy, & very cozy.
The Food & Drink
• Tea Service: Each person gets their own pot of tea, & the best part is that refills are free! The tea quality was excellent.
• Three-Tiered Tray: The presentation was lovely. We received three trays of pastries including:
• Top Tier: Macarons, canelés, & bite-sized chocolate treats.
• Middle Tier: Warm scones served with cream, jam, & butter.
• Bottom Tier: A variety of fresh finger sandwiches on different types of bread.
• Taste: Everything was very delicious & tasted fresh.
Value
The price was $60 per person, which included tax & required no extra tips. Given the quality of the food, the unlimited tea, & the beautiful setting, it felt like a very fair price for the experience.
Final Verdict: Highly recommend for anyone looking for a high-quality afternoon tea with a unique greenhouse atmosphere!
I sat at the bar for an afternoon of beer & whiskey (because, why not?!). The server suggested the perfect local brew but the star of the place is the extensive whisk(e)y selection. Not just the heavy hitters (Scottish, Irish, Bourbon, etc.) but also a great selection of other countries. I had a whiskey from Mexico (I had no idea that Mexico produced whiskey). Loved the automatic addition of the eye dropper to add a little water if your whiskey choice is a little fiery. All the staff were fantastic & the vibe was fabulous. If you're in the neighborhood you need to pop in. Heck, if you live 100 km away you need to pop in!
Pub Burgundy Lion is a true gem in the heart of Little Burgundy, offering a perfect blend of traditional British pub charm & Montreal's vibrant personality. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere with dark wood interiors, vintage decor, & a lively yet relaxed crowd. It feels both familiar & unique-like stepping into a classic pub with a twist.
The food is consistently excellent, with comforting British staples like fish & chips, shepherd's pie, & a proper Sunday roast. Everything is made with care, & portions are generous. It's the kind of place where you'll want to try everything on the menu over time. The staff is friendly, attentive, & knowledgeable-especially when it comes to drinks.
Speaking of drinks, the whisky selection is exceptional-one of the largest in Quebec. Whether you're a casual sipper or a connoisseur, there's something to discover. Their beer list is also solid, with local & international options that complement the hearty menu.
What really sets Burgundy Lion apart is its community feel. From quiz nights & sporting events to afternoon tea service & whisky tastings, there's always something happening. It's a place where locals & visitors feel equally at home.
In short, Burgundy Lion isn't just a pub-it's an experience. Delicious food, great drinks, & a welcoming vibe make it one of Montreal's most beloved spots.
We had to wait exceptionally long for service from the waitress. Fish & chips were as good as expected, the fries were excellent. The music too loud & not a choice that mirrors the British vibe.
A Montreal classic. Good vibes, best whiskey selection in the city, great food as well
