The Holder brothers welcome you to their beautiful Brasserie Bernard for a pleasant evening or a friendly lunch. This place has become a classic on Bernard Street in the beautiful Outremont district; the neighbourhood’s charm contributes greatly to the charm of the restaurant. Try their fine but unpretentious European cuisine, in a warm, elegant and vibrant atmosphere
Overall Brasserie Bernard earns praise for its warm Parisian brasserie vibe, comfortable and spacious setting, attentive and friendly service, and a varied menu that delivers well executed classics such as moules frites, onion soup, ravioli, duck confit and steak frites, with desserts like pavlova and pudding chomeur also mentioned; the ambiance and wine list are frequently highlighted and the place is described as lively yet suitable for couples, groups or special occasions, though a few reviews note noise levels and occasional slower service when busy and a few dishes that lack salt balance or are priced high for the portion; many guests say they would return, recommend Brasserie Bernard, and consider it a top French bistro experience in Montreal
As a first timer to this restaurant, I was immediately impressed when we were warmly greeted at the door by a perfectly bilingual individual. Our table was being prepared when we arrived & were seated when ready.
We ordered drinks first. I had an Espresso Martini & my husband had IPA ber on tap. Beer is not difficult to serve but a martini should be in a martini glass. Thus was not. Since I am not a big drinker, it was enough, but wow was it small. There was definitely seemed like less than 2oz of liquor. Won't do that again.
We then ordered our mains: a burger for the husband & I had the steak & fries.
Service was pretty quick, considering how busy it was on a Wednesday.
The steak arrived first. It was served with mayo for the fries & a pepper corn sauce for the steak. The steak was delicious. Perfection. Perfectly cooked to med/rare. The only issue I had, was that the fries were greasy & not hot.
According to my husband, the burger was the best one he has ever eaten. His fries were also only luke warm.
For dessert we shared the warm chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream. Wow..how rich.
Service was amazing. When our waiters shift was over, in the middle of our service, he came over, let us know & assured us that we would be well taken care of. Antoine, thank you for everything. You're the best.
Would we go back? For sure.

This was our first time at Brasserie Bernard. It was a great experience overall. The ambiance is very pleasant & the restaurant is roomy so very comfortable for a couple or a larger group. We were there when it was full & we had no problem having a conversation. The service was very friendly & attentive with many people serving you throughout out the night. Finally the food was excellent (the fried calamari & onion soup were great as well as our steaks. A friend said it was one of the best cheeseburgers she ever had). The desserts were lovely (pudding chomeur & lemon tart).

Great food, friendly service, wonderful ambience. The menu is varied, but not too large. All of the dishes we tried are well-executed, but some are a bit better than others. The poached salmon was my dish & it was very good, but not outstanding. The steak frites was good, but not quite worth the price. The service was friendly, but a tad slow once the dining room filled up. What was outstanding was the ravioli, the duck, the chicken, & the french onion soup. Dessert was also incredible, with my chocolate pear pavlova being among the best things I have ever ordered at a restaurant. Come to this brasserie for a special occasion & with an empty stomach. You will not be disappointed.
I had the salmon tartare as an entree & sea bass a main, both very delicious As for dessert I had the pear meringue with chocolate ice cream covered in i believe a cream praline. Need I say more - scrumptious!
My friend, daughter, & I had a fabulous time at Brasserie Bernard. This spot is our go-to bistro every time we visit Montreal. We ordered from the table d'hôte, & each dish, from the soup to dessert, was delicious & perfectly suited to the cold, rainy day we were there. The food was superb, the service was gracious, & the ambience offered that expected old-world charm-warm & truly welcoming.
Table for five, welcoming, nice music, service impeccable as usual. You can hear each other talk at the table. The steak, fish & chips, mussels & hamburger were great. The fries are always perfect as well as profiteroles & chômeur dessert🙂Thank you again for a wonderful evening!

First off it's a really beautiful place & the food is ok. Def overpriced though. $25 for an octopus carpaccio which was so so & cooked (not raw). $36 for their main sized tartare which is the same size as an appetizer portion anywhere else. I had the salmon tartare & bf had the beef & honestly it was just ok not more. We had the desserts & they were just ok. We had drinks too & they were pretty expensive. Overall if you wanna take pics it's nice inside but I wouldn't go for the food as you can find better & less expensive elsewhere.

On a adoré !!
My local friend had heard good things about this place so three of us went there to celebrate our birthdays. Fantastic! We knew we were in for a treat when the butter for the delicious bread tasted better than any butter I've ever had! Then we started with oysters & the calamari, both delicious! For mains I had the veal ravioli & my friends had duck & steak. Again we were all transported by the rich flavors! We finished off with dessert & we all loved what we asked for, but the lemon tartlet was our hands-down favorite! Through it all the staff was really attentive (despite every table in the place being occupied), & our French waitress, Salome, was absolutely delightful!
This restaurant is INCREDIBLE. The service is spot on, the food is out of this world, the ambiance is perfect. We rolled in after a six hour drive, probably looking a little shell shocked, & the staff took such good care of us. Escargot, tartare & mussels were to die for, excellent quality, ample servings & at a very decent price; I only regret that we didn't have room for dessert because those pastries looked divine! We will, definitely, definitely return the next time we are in Montreal!
Everything was delicious. We got rabbit, beef, lobster(my favorite meal of the night) & mussels as main course. For appetizers, we got oysters,3 different tartrates & scallops carpaccio. Desserts, we got lemon tarte & many others. Service perfect & "attentionné".
