The Holder brothers welcome you to their beautiful Brasserie Bernard for a pleasant evening or a friendly lunch. This place has become a classic on Bernard Street in the beautiful Outremont district; the neighbourhood’s charm contributes greatly to the charm of the restaurant. Try their fine but unpretentious European cuisine, in a warm, elegant and vibrant atmosphere
Brasserie Bernard is frequently described as a charming, Parisian style bistro in Outremont, offering a warm, attentive service and a lively yet comfortable atmosphere. The menu earns praise for classic French brasserie fare such as moules frites, tartares, duck confit, escargots, fish and chips, and steak frites, with many diners calling the dishes delicious and well prepared and the wine list a notable plus. The terrace and interior are highlighted as beautiful settings, though seating can be tight and the room can be noisy at peak times. Service is repeatedly described as impeccable and friendly, with staff often praised for wine recommendations, while a few visits note slower pacing or uneven attention. Value is mixed: some consider the prices worth it for quality and ambiance, while others feel portions or some dishes do not match the cost. Overall Brasserie Bernard remains a popular go to for a reliable, enjoyable French bistro experience, drawing couples and groups back for a special night or casual dinner alike.
This was our first time at Brasserie Bernard. It was a great experience overall. The ambiance is very pleasant & the restaurant is roomy so very comfortable for a couple or a larger group. We were there when it was full & we had no problem having a conversation. The service was very friendly & attentive with many people serving you throughout out the night. Finally the food was excellent (the fried calamari & onion soup were great as well as our steaks. A friend said it was one of the best cheeseburgers she ever had). The desserts were lovely (pudding chomeur & lemon tart).
It was a nice restaurant with great service, they spoke French but also spoke English! The food was great, between all of us, we got to try many of the dishes which were all great as well! Loved it. Thank you Brasserie Bernard!!
Toujours un plaisir de se retrouver à la Brasserie Bernard. Le menu du jour du mercredi 18 était particulièrement réussi: potage Goddess & morue islandaise avec risotto aux moules. A renouveler.
Très bonne brasserie française classe & elegante. Très bons plats , service attentionné sans être trop présent, bonne viande , bon poisson, très bons desserts .

Great food, friendly service, wonderful ambience. The menu is varied, but not too large. All of the dishes we tried are well-executed, but some are a bit better than others. The poached salmon was my dish & it was very good, but not outstanding. The steak frites was good, but not quite worth the price. The service was friendly, but a tad slow once the dining room filled up. What was outstanding was the ravioli, the duck, the chicken, & the french onion soup. Dessert was also incredible, with my chocolate pear pavlova being among the best things I have ever ordered at a restaurant. Come to this brasserie for a special occasion & with an empty stomach. You will not be disappointed.
First, the ambiance. Big place, usually packed but it still feels warm & just sort of cozy.
Service is impeccable, knowledgeable & friendly.
Cocktails are superb, too. But the real draw is the food! Exquisite! The calmar was top notch & the veal ravioli was the best ravioli I have ever had. Seriously. My friend had the canard confit & exclaimed throughout how delicious it was.
It's worth every penny (if you skip cocktails, it's not that pricey).
