Brasserie Artisinale L'Amere a Boire first opened its doors in 1996 and is still going strong. As one of the only brew pub in Montreal to sell both ales and lagers made on the premises, L'Amere a Boire has made quite an impression on Montreal beer aficionados. With a cavernous 25 foot ceiling, the two-floored establishment provides an inviting atmosphere that includes two outdoor terraces and a rustic brick interior.

Review Summary

Reviews describe Brasserie artisanale L'amère à boire as a beer focused spot with a wide, highly praised lineup that includes refreshing blonde lagers, IPAs with fruity finishes, and German and Czech styles, along with unique ales and a stout; the food is noted as interesting and well paired with the drinks, with occasional event themes. The atmosphere is repeatedly described as welcoming and lively yet comfortable, with a clean space and a small terrace that adds charm. Service is usually friendly and efficient, with many mentioning attentive staff, though a few notes reference uneven service or a difficult server. Prices are considered reasonable, and the place is often hailed as a standout brewery in town. Some critiques mention music being too loud at times and the open door letting in smoke, but overall the reviews show strong enjoyment and a likelihood to return.

Lovely bar close to sherbrooke metro station. Great ambiance & a nice collection of beers. A pint of beer costs 10 cad after tax.

The best brewery in town! Delicious beers with fresh bretzels :) We always enjoy our stops & encourage others to do the same.
We loved the Nitro & the Czech specialties. Terrasse on St-Denis!

2025: had a good negroni, service was friendly & efficient. Music could be more interesting, but it has nice decor.
2024: Friendly & efficient service. I don't really drink beer but I liked what I had.

Beer was good, I tried 2 kinds of Czech Plsener style, both are what I'm used to. Service was not that bad, actually, however the servant rudely tried to coerce me to give him a bribe. I don't ever bribe anywhere since it's corruption & we, Ukrainians, are advised not to ever bribe since Canadian assistance to Ukraine depends on our ability to fight corruption

Beers were fantastic, but the service was brutally slow on a very calm night (we were one of maybe 4 tables in the whole place), & the food was an absolute joke. $16 for a grilled cheese sandwich so small it would leave a mouse hungry, & - to add insult to injury - half of a miniature pickle. We had to go elsewhere afterwards to get a proper meal. Again, the beers were great, but I can't believe the food was served with a straight face.

One of my favourite brew-pubs in Montreal. It usually has a half dozen of its own beers on tap on offer & last time I was there, many of the menu options were using ingredients from small, family farms in the La Petit Nation region of Quebec, near the Ontario border. Get there early if you want to take advantage of their (tiny) back patio.
