A really disappointing experience for the price. Over 500 dollars for the two of us
Mediocre service, & the food was lacking in flavour.
I was expecting a lot more
Très bon menu Montréal a Table & service excellent !!
Un grand merci !
I had been looking forward to trying Bonaparte for quite some time, especially during MTLàTABLE, but unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations.
It took over an hour for our first course to arrive, which immediately set a disappointing tone for the evening. When I mentioned the delay twice, the response I received was far from professional - instead of an apology or a gesture of goodwill, I was simply told,'I already told you it's coming.' For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, that lack of courtesy was truly surprising.
As for the food, it was uneven. The lobster bisque was fine but nothing remarkable. The salad was very bitter & in general lacked flavor, almost bland. The goat cheese was enjoyable, & the terrine was decent though not memorable. The lamb & the salmon mousse were good. The beef was tough & difficult to chew, while the pork was tender & well-prepared. The desserts followed the same pattern - the carrot cake was pleasant, but the chocolate mousse felt ordinary.
Overall, the evening was disappointing. After such a long wait & indifferent service, the experience did not live up to Bonaparte's reputation or my expectations. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning.
Service is excellent & food is great. We really enjoyed the duck leg & duck breast. Chocolate chips soufflé takes 20min so order ahead. Convenient location from the Notre Dame.
The food was delicious, fresh, & of outstanding quality. It's among Montreal's best French food, & I adore it. The service is top-notch.
Atmosphere:
pretty cool for an old building.
Feels like eating at a Downton Abbey type of establishment. Not a huge place but enough to be cozy.
Tables are tightly placed & it can get quite warm & loud in there, but that's the perks of older buildings ☺?
Service:
super excellent & cared for every detail. They made us feel welcomed & staff was friendly & attentive to our needs. 🤩
Food:
Maybe the chef that night (Oct 31 2025) was not around or something was off, the food overall lacked proper seasoning. Presentation was so-so. Perhaps the menu or chef needs an overhaul or reinvent something to bring the spark back. 😕
Overall very good restaurant but lagging a bit behind compared to other venues.
Still worth a try…but not for a special occasion
This was our second time & Restaurant Bonaparte does not disappoint. Always creative & delicious appetizers & mains. Juicy lamb chops, perfectly cooked meal... all was extraordinary. Excellent wine list.
I came to Restaurant Bonaparte to celebrate my partner's birthday & other life events. We were met with lovely staff who made us feel welcome despite our younger age & inexperience with fancier dining. We tried the tasting menu with wine pairing & we're not disappointed. The rabbit & lamb are phenominal, as well as the cheesecake. Would recommend this spot to any couple looking to celebrate over a fantastic dinner.
We were traveling in Quebec & had been to several other'same level' restaurants, this one for its price range was the most mediocre food & definitely the worst staff. The restaurant decoration was ok-ish.
Definitely the worst money/value we spent for food in Quebec.
Our family goes here for every big occasion. The service & food are always impeccable. Whether sitting by the window overlooking the cobble stone street, or next to the large fireplace, the atmosphere always delivers.
A six star experience & my favorite dinner in Montreal during this trip .
Bonaparte hit all the marks with their exceptional service & attention to detail .
We made reservations weeks in advance & it is highly recommended to plan accordingly.
We were greeted & taken to our table which was a great location overlooking the outside . Quiet & able to hold a conversation without noise or disruptions making the ideal ambiance.
Bonaparte restaurant style & surroundings take you make to an old school elegance & charm . Dress for the occasion .
Our waiter was amazing . He explained the menus perfectly & made note of a gluten free guest also offering their own gf bread & butter . A must .
Cocktail menu & wine menus were extensive & detailed . We asked to try some local gin based cocktails . He did an amazing job proposing two cocktails that set the tone for the dinner .
Soup of the day was a potato & leek . Simple flavorful & filling . What else does one need ? Together with the delicious breads was a good starter .
Main dish was out of this world . Roasted duck breast cooked to perfection . Prepared with a maple syrup sauce & wild berries (including tart cranberries) which elevated the dish . Vegetables mix balanced the dish . In combination with the herbal cocktail this dish was extraordinarily special .
After dinner digestif menu included some nice choices to wrap up a delightful dinner
Many thanks to the entire staff that made our event so memorable . We will be back again next time we are in Montreal
I enjoyed of my lamb shank but my friend ordered medium well filet mignon but the meal was well done cooked, she was mot happy with, about wine 🍷 we think the waiter mixed up our order.
Atmosphere is good & almost quiet.
I really enjoyed my experience at Bonaparte restaurant. I felt very welcomed when I arrived. The staff is very warm & attentive. I loved the wine list. Many to choose from. The food was exquisite. I might return a second time. A must try if you visit Montreal. Thank you for a memorable night.
Cheers
This was an incredible fine dining experience. The wine list is a novel. Choosing our meal was hard because everything sounded amazing. We tried the duck breast & beef bourguignon, & they were incredible delicious. Prepared perfectly. The sweet potato puree that came with the duck was very tasty (I wanted much more of that). The only thing that disappointed was the Brussel sprout that came on each of our plates. But dessert more than made up for it. Their dessert cocktails were out of this world & the souffles are really a work of art. Great place for a fancy date night.
Amazing 5-course degustation menu with beautifully crafted dishes. The atmosphere is charming, quiet, & welcoming, & the staff are absolutely lovely. I've been here a couple of times & will definitely be back again!
One of my favor restaurants in Montreal. Bonaparte is a timeless gem in Old Montreal, offering classic French cuisine in an elegant, candlelit setting. Every dish, from the foie gras to the duck magret, is beautifully prepared & full of flavor. Service is attentive & professional, & the wine list is superb. Perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion.
