Bonaparte is described across reviews as a refined Old Montreal destination for classic French cuisine, offering a romantic candlelit atmosphere and attentive, professional service. The menu shines with dishes such as duck confit, duck breast with maple syrup and wild berries, lamb shank, beef bourguignon, veal chop, and foie gras, with standout lobster bisque and desserts like profiteroles and chocolate mousse, all complemented by a superb wine list and thoughtfully paired tasting menus that many guests consider well worth the splurge. The setting is consistently praised for elegance, a quiet, intimate ambiance, and old world charm, making it ideal for special occasions and romantic dinners. While some guests note price considerations and occasional delays or variability in seasoning, the prevailing impression is that Bonaparte delivers excellent food, memorable service, and a standout Montreal dining experience that keeps visitors returning.
A must-do in Old Montreal. This cozy French restaurant had charm, warm ambiance, super delicious food, & an amazing staff! The staff were really friendly, fun, & knowledgeable about the menu & drink options. I tried Artic Char for the first time & now it's my absolute new favourite. My husband had duck confit cooked to perfection. The dessert souffle was not only delicious but also a beautiful treat! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Bonaparte is consistently a great experience. The service is always top notch & feels like such a luxury. My favorite dishes are the vanilla shrimp & scallops, the brie chicken entrée, & the profiteroles for dessert. They also have amazing French fries & cocktails.

Excellent classic French resto … I just wish they would name after Louis XV who loved his people so that he entrenched French language rights for Quebec … while Bonaparte sold off the people of Louisiana'à la vache'
One of my favor restaurants in Montreal. Bonaparte is a timeless gem in Old Montreal, offering classic French cuisine in an elegant, candlelit setting. Every dish, from the foie gras to the duck magret, is beautifully prepared & full of flavor. Service is attentive & professional, & the wine list is superb. Perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion.
We enjoyed our meal last evening. Family out of town gather here to have a good French cruise. We got the multi choice menu with wine paring. 4 of us loved our server. He was polite. Friendly. Warm. & great sense of humor. & the smile.....(Matthew I believe was his name)
My only complaint is I find my mushroom ravioli was over cooked. Water down. But overall presentation on every plate was beautiful. Food delish. I would recommend this gem of a place to tourists.
Matthew: I hope u do try my tip. Blue cheese with a dab of honey

My wife loved her multi-course meal-she thought both the food & wine pairings were wonderful. I, however, didn't enjoy it as much. While the cuisine is clearly traditional French, I found the staff unhelpful when I asked for guidance on the menu, & the portions felt small for the price. The food was good but nothing stood out to me-except for the chocolate chip soufflé, which was truly excellent. Perhaps this is simply a matter of taste, but for me, it wasn't worth the cost.
A classic & impeccable bistro cuisine. Come ready to delve into the generous menu of french delicacies. I had the veal chop & it was marvelous. Perfectly charred yet juicy & cooked to perfection. Wine selection is great & the staff equally incredible. This place is date quality - so if the purpose is celebratory, bring your significant other for a special occasion. Romantic & elegant.
God bless Canada & Montreal!!
An old-world style restaurant with a surprisingly varied menu. Something for everyone, fancy, simple, vegan, gluten-free, & adventurous. Impeccable service, relaxed atmosphere & reasonable prices for a fancy French restaurant.
With a gluten-free dinner they serve a fabulous gluten-free bread. Also, for non drinkers there are a wide selection of mocktails.
It connected with the hotel Bonaparte, which is a boutique hotel.
A truly incredible dining experience. The staff are welcoming, & I appreciate the patience they with us had as my group stumbled through broken French! The meals were amazing, the drinks were amazing & the desserts were… also AMAZING. I'll definitely be back for the tasting menu in the future. I will be recommending Restaurant Bonaparte to anyone & everyone I know that will be visiting Montreal! :)
I was looking for a nice French restaurant in Montreal & found it with Bonaparte! C'était magnifique & très très délicieuse!! Georges did a great job telling us about the food & wine & greatly appreciated the service. Between the lobster bisque, fois gras, filet mignon, & paired wines from all over, the experience was exquisite.

There are two restaurants that are our favorites in Montreal. Those are Bar George & Restaurant Bonaparte. Bar George has been our favorite for the last few years. Our all-time favorite has been closed for more than 10 years & that was known as the Beaver Club. Bar George has tried to kind of make itself similar to that but unfortunately I'm noticing it's a little bit not quite what it used to be. I would have to say our current favorite is Restaurant Bonaparte. It is located in the Napoleon Bonaparte hotel. Where is Bar George is what you'd call British, restaurant Bonaparte is full on French. When you sit here you're in a nice white dining room with crisp white linens. True high-end French dining. For my course I had the filet mignon topped with a nice large lobe of foie gras. It really doesn't get much better than that. There are high-end steakhouses such as Joe Beef etc. the food in those places is excellent but the noise can be very distracting. Add Bonaparte you have the epitome of fine dining. The staff knows your likes & dislikes. You are exceptionally well cared for in that restaurant. It has become our favorite now. Seafood, Steak, Pork & Duck dinners are all wonderfully prepared. The desserts are simply elegant without being over the top. We found the Profiterole to be among the best we've had anywhere. It is a fairly expensive restaurant among the most expensive we were at during our vacation. But this kind of fine quality dining attention to detail does not come cheap.
A wonderful traditional French restaurant with a great atmosphere in the Old Port. You will be amazed by the fantastic ambience, sparkling Christmas tree, warm lights, elegant table cloths, romantic music & 5 stars service. We chose the 7 course tasting menu without regrets. Every dish was perfect! It was pleasant to sit a table by the window having delicious meals while it was snowing outside. An unforgettable night! We will come back!
By far the best place I've ever eaten. It's been two years since my husband & I went for our anniversary & I since dream about this restaurant. The duck with maple syrup is amazing. The napoleon rivals that of any French restaurant. I will count down the days which I can come back. Please never change!
I was in the mood for classic French food. That was exactly what I got. Oh wow, the food was absolutely amazing. If you don't believe me, look at the photos. The interior decor was comfortable & the service was excellent. It was a Monday evening & not crowded at all. I started with a kir to whet my appetite. Then had the shrimp & scallop harmony which was tasteful & beautiful to look at. Of course I had to go with a traditional duck confit which is my go to favorite. A succulent duck leg cooked so slowly with that moist juicy interior & served with the jus. It came with a few vegetables, more for decoration than taste. For dessert I had a glass of ice perry & the calvados souffle. It was huge but so light & airy, truly a stunning creation. The golden-brown crust was crisp & when I bit into the souffle the apple brandy taste just melted on my tongue. I can't wait to visit again.
