Restaurant Bonaparte offers a refined French dining experience in Old Montreal, consistently praised for its elegant, candlelit atmosphere and professional, attentive service. Guests frequently highlight the quality of classic dishes like the duck breast and mushroom ravioli, alongside an impressive wine list and exceptional desserts such as the soufflé. While experiences vary, many patrons cherish the restaurant as a romantic and memorable destination for celebrations, often noting the warmth of the staff and the consistency of the culinary offerings over time.
I was visiting Montreal for a few days with my mom who loves fine dining. I booked here based on all the glowing reviews & top Montreal dining spots. We were disappointed. The service was good until we were done & after a 20 min wait I had to call the waiter over to get the bill. The wine was not poured at the table & in small port glasses for a pinot & cab. Strange. I ordered the Lobster bisque & it was gritty bland & had maybe 2 tiny lobster pieces in it. I order this at any restaurant that has it on the menu & this was by far the worst. My mom ordered the rabbit appetizer & she said it was good. They scoffed a bit at us wanting to share a main dish, but allowed it & we ordered the filet. It was cooked ok, but not evenly & not a lot of flavor. 1 small piece of potato & 2 tiny pieces of asparagus on the side with a smear of carrot creme. Needless to say we were unimpressed by the food & the prices were high for quantity & quality. The atmosphere was nice & we were sat by the window which was cool. The assistant server/busboy was the best part of the evening! He was very professional, attentive, took his job seriously & was so kind.
It was a Sunday evening & our last night in Montreal & all that we wanted was to grab a glass of wine before turning in for the night. We tried other places, & while they were still quite busy, they wouldn't take other guests despite us only wanting one beverage & we're much older! (We would have been out of there long before the other groups finished!)
We stopped at Bonaparte, & despite them winding down, Fredrick was so welcoming, kind & accommodating, that he was gladly willing to put us each a glass of wine. We were conscientious of their schedule & closed out our tab ASAP, & all throughout, Frederick was gracious & shared his amazing customer service skills with us. We didn't take advantage, yet appreciated that when all we wanted was 1 glass of wine, & others were still dining, that he allowed us to enjoy our final night in Montreal. Thank you so very much, Frederick. We will seriously plan to stay at your hotel next time based on how welcoming you were to us! 🤗
Another fantastic meal at Bonaparte's. We celebrated our anniversary with the ravioli & the Beef Bourguignon. All paired with a Hidden Bench wine. This restaurant never disappoints.
We highly recommend duck confit, lamb shank, catch of the day (walleye) & rabbit confit. The terrine & wine was not super impressive but was still good. Service was good & they treated us very well for my birthday. This was the second visit for one of us.
This was our second time & Restaurant Bonaparte does not disappoint. Always creative & delicious appetizers & mains. Juicy lamb chops, perfectly cooked meal... all was extraordinary. Excellent wine list.
I came to Restaurant Bonaparte to celebrate my partner's birthday & other life events. We were met with lovely staff who made us feel welcome despite our younger age & inexperience with fancier dining. We tried the tasting menu with wine pairing & we're not disappointed. The rabbit & lamb are phenominal, as well as the cheesecake. Would recommend this spot to any couple looking to celebrate over a fantastic dinner.
A six star experience & my favorite dinner in Montreal during this trip .
Bonaparte hit all the marks with their exceptional service & attention to detail .
We made reservations weeks in advance & it is highly recommended to plan accordingly.
We were greeted & taken to our table which was a great location overlooking the outside . Quiet & able to hold a conversation without noise or disruptions making the ideal ambiance.
Bonaparte restaurant style & surroundings take you make to an old school elegance & charm . Dress for the occasion .
Our waiter was amazing . He explained the menus perfectly & made note of a gluten free guest also offering their own gf bread & butter . A must .
Cocktail menu & wine menus were extensive & detailed . We asked to try some local gin based cocktails . He did an amazing job proposing two cocktails that set the tone for the dinner .
Soup of the day was a potato & leek . Simple flavorful & filling . What else does one need ? Together with the delicious breads was a good starter .
Main dish was out of this world . Roasted duck breast cooked to perfection . Prepared with a maple syrup sauce & wild berries (including tart cranberries) which elevated the dish . Vegetables mix balanced the dish . In combination with the herbal cocktail this dish was extraordinarily special .
After dinner digestif menu included some nice choices to wrap up a delightful dinner
Many thanks to the entire staff that made our event so memorable . We will be back again next time we are in Montreal
I enjoyed of my lamb shank but my friend ordered medium well filet mignon but the meal was well done cooked, she was mot happy with, about wine 🍷 we think the waiter mixed up our order.
Atmosphere is good & almost quiet.
