Award winning cocktail bar tucked away in a Montreal Chinatown. Authentic Cantonese food available for clients who want to snack while enjoying an all-natural libation. Live DJ sets every night.
Bar Le Mal Nécessaire stands out as Montreal's cocktail destination, blending a refined lounge vibe with vibrant nightlife through creative, tropical-inspired cocktails that are often flawlessly executed. The service is consistently attentive, helping guests navigate crowds and a sometimes steep price tag, while the atmosphere remains intimate, stylish, and energized by nightly DJs. Some reviews note entry queues and variable experiences across visits, and a few nights can be loud or pricey, but the overall consensus is that the cocktails, presentation, and hospitality make Bar Le Mal Nécessaire a top pick for a memorable night out in Montreal.
Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is a fun, unique, retro bar definitely worthy of a stop in Montréal. Although it's gained its popularity for the aptly named "Champagne Papi", the menu offers tons of diverse cocktails to choose from. The service was fantastic & the drinks were incredible, the Champagne Papi actually tasted incredible for what may be considered a "gimmicky drink". I would order it even if it did not have Drake's face on it.

Stopped by this bar for a late night drink, & it did not disappoint. The drinks were solid, loved the Champagne Papi "Drake drink" & fruit loop shots (they were as good as they sound). The prices were decent. Definitely worth checking out if you're out late & looking for a good vibe
This bar was an absolute must-visit on my list with my partner, she had been to a previous iteration of this bar - & it shows that this place has consistently been a success since it's grown into a space 3x its original size. We were served by Elyssa & she was so helpful, I don't know how she knew that I was craving a pineapple flavoured drink, but she suggested I try the house special (also called Le Mal Nécessaire) - which was delectable. My partner got Elyssa's take on a hurricane & only superlatives could suffice to explain how good it was. Everyone should visit this bar when they're in Montréal.
Decent drinks in a beautiful new venue. The biggest problem was there weren't enough bartenders to provide adequate service, & we waited too long between orders & to receive the bill. The pina colada was surprisingly just okay. We found the venue got very loud as it's a fairly cavernous space.
Amazing nights guaranteed at this bar which used to rocks the Chinatown & now is bigger & better in its new location. The DJs are great, decor settings beautiful, drinks are a work of art of the service personalized & friendly. Special kudos to Yohan who made my visit so great I went back 2 days later with a larger group of friends. My new hangout when I'll be in Montreal !

This was our "home bar" while visiting Montreal. The drinks were fun & delicious, but even better was the service. Our servers (New Brunswick & Hugo) were extremely kind, engaging & made our experience fabulous every night we were there. Check it out yourselves people!!
This bar is super underrated & a strong contender for one of the coolest spots in montreal. Very chique & modern but with a classic ambiance. Felt like I stepped into a Mad Men episode. Definitely a spot to return to as the service & their range of cocktails are amazing.
L'ambiance est sur la coche. Les serveurs m'ont très bien accueilli & je me suis senti à ma place malgré que je me suis tenté à la découverte en solo de ce bar!

We only went for a few drinks before going out for dinner but what a great experience at the bar with the bartender, he was wonderful & engaging at explaining the various cocktails. We enjoyed the conversation about drinks & spirits. I would definitely go back at a time when it's not to busy to enjoy that time again. I highly recommend to anyone looking for imaginative cocktails both avec & sans alcohol.
Very swanky cocktail bar with a book of a menu. Five star drinks, service, & atmosphere. Our waitress (long, dark hair with tatts) was amazing - very friendly, knowledgeable, & welcoming. Highly recommend the coco supremo drink.
Bar discret avec une ambiance tamisée parfaite pour un tête-à-tête ou une rencontre entre amis. Service professionnel avec une carte des drinks bien détaillée & diversifiée.
Finding this place took a minute, but the effort was so worth it. We were seated at the bar & thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails while watching the seriously AMAZING experts behind the bar make these original blends. The DJ was fantastic. Montreal has an incredible club scene... don't miss one of the very best!
Double review, of the old place & new First went there about a year ago. Small, but the drinks were great, staff was friendly & quick. I loved the little food menu from the place upstairs. The special drinks were amazing & i ordered several. Fast forward to the new location. The bar looks amazing. Lot more open then the old place. The bouncers were friendly & joking with us while we waited for a place. This is where the slight disappointment started. Once seated we waiting almost 30 mins for a server to come see us. People seated after us got served their drinks before the even took our order. In 1 hour we saw our server once. I'll give them that it was a busy evening, but it was irritating. The drinks were ok, I am not sure if they changed the recipe or ingredients since the old location but Le Mal Necessaire tasted a lot different then the old one. Maybe the pineapple was from concentrate? Something didn't taste the same in it. Still good but I'd drop the rating a star of how it used to be. & they don't have the snack menu anymore. SO over all great looking place. But maybe a victim of its own success? I didn't have the rude experience that some seem to speak of but our server took even longer to bring our bill then to take the drinks. another server saw us getting annoyed & came to help us. So service was mixed, drinks were better at the old place. But they layout was great. Good atmosphere. Maybe it was an off day.
