At 316 avenue du Mont-Royal Est, we've been loving the kouing-amann for over 30 years.
A true neighborhood café, the owner and employees work together to offer gourmet pastries (made with passion!), fresh sandwiches and the famous kouing-amann.
Let yourself be tempted by a moment of greed in a warm family atmosphere that has lasted for nearly three decades.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A True Montreal Gem - Absolutely Delicious!
Pâtisserie Au Kouing Amann is one of the most memorable bakeries we have ever visited, & it deserves every bit of a 5-star rating. If you love pastries, this place is an absolute must. The moment you walk in, the air is filled with the rich, buttery aroma of freshly baked goods, & you know you're in for something special.
We tried their famous kouign amann, & it was perfection - beautifully caramelized on the outside, flaky & tender inside, with just the right balance of sweetness & butter. It's one of those pastries you remember long after you've finished eating. We also sampled a few other treats, & everything was consistently fresh & full of flavor.
The bakery itself has a cozy, authentic feel, & the staff were warm, welcoming, & happy to help with suggestions. You can tell they take pride in what they make. It's not a huge space, but it feels like a little hidden gem tucked into the heart of Montreal.
This place alone is worth a detour if you're visiting the city. I would come back in a heartbeat & highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates top-quality pastries. Easily one of the best bakery experiences in Canada!View more
I visited Kouign Amann Bakery in the heart of the Plateau with a good friend, & it was a delicious little escape. Their namesake pastry-the Kouign-amann-was perfectly caramelized & buttery, easily one of the best I've had. We also tried their croissants, impossibly light & flaky. It's a cozy spot with just a few tables, ideal for sharing pastries & good conversation. A true taste of Brittany!View more
What a delicious selection of pastries! I was in line at around 10:45 & got in to order by 11am on a saturday. I suggest going earlier in the day if you can because they had already run out of almond croissant & chocolatines. I grabbed the last regular croissant as well.
My favourite has to be warm kouing
amann slice! Although it tastes more bready than croissant-y, the top & bottom was crunchy & glazed which added to the fluffyness of the center. The raisin bread itself & regular croissants were also light & airy! However, the only pastry i wasnt fond of was the milk bread. This bread was stuffed with some chocolate but the texture just didnt suit my taste.
I would definitely be back earlier next time to try the almond croissant & chocolatine!View more
Absolutely amazing!! I can't sing enough praises for Au Kouign Amann -- this petite, no-frills bakery is serving up some of the best pastries I've ever had. You, of course, have to get their signature item, the kouign amann. Unlike most kouign amanns you find in the US / Canada, they bake the full-size pastries & cut them into slices vs. making single-serving mini kouign amanns. This helps preserve the buttery, flaky texture in the center, while still highlighting the crunchy crust & sweet / savory syrup coating. The pastries are certainly sweet from the caramel, but they also have a great saltiness & savoriness from the salted butter; it's also extremely dense & will easily fill you up, so I'd recommend splitting it if you wanted to try anything / anywhere else.
I don't know if I'll ever make it to Brittany, but I feel like I've had an authentic taste of this classic pastry here; absolutely check out Au Kouign Amann if you're looking for a delicious, but slightly more unique, pastry in Montreal!View more
Amazing pastries & espresso, great service, friendly staff.View more
Awesome place. Very affordable yet delicious fresh pastries. Some of my favorites are the croque monsieur, kouign amann, quiche, & the almond croissant. Definitely will stop by again when I'm in town.View more
All of their pastries are very good but the kouign amann is stunning. So delicious.View more
Finally I visited here! The store was closed when I visit here last time. I was really happy to have the iconic Kouign amann! The shape is unique! I wish I could purchase the whole one. It's very soft, & buttery. The bottom is slightly caramelized. I would say not crunch but the taste is amazing. I didn't try another pastries. I want to try some next time!View more
very good & line moves fast. only 2 tables inside so more of a grab & go place but plenty of benches outside to sit & enjoy the warm pastriesView more
Just do yourself a favor & go get a slice of the legendary kouign Aman, you won't regret it. All the pastries tasted were freshly made & delicious & the owner was so kind. Highly recommend.View more
Amazing place, It's a shame that they don't go open that much & close earlier than the times they put online, came all the way from the Netherlands expecting that they were still open as they said online just to get a taste, but they weren't & now I will leave in 3 days without having the opportunity to taste their pastries.View more
Everything was delicious. My favorite was the almond croissant. Coffee was also good. Enjoyed watching the pastries being made. Feels like a neighborhood treasure. Judging by the foot traffic, has quite the following but not uncomfortably busy or crowded. Just steady.View more
The hype is real. Hands down some best pastries we've had (& we are frequent travelers to Paris). Affordable & smiles aplenty from the lovely folk that work there.View more
Stopped in on a weekday morning about 2 hours after opening. Was able to pick up a good selection of pastries & 2 of the small kougin amann. Some things were sold out but we still had enough to choose from. Service was efficient, & they even made sure to give us the freshest pastries. A good place to grab & go - not a lot of seating, if that's what you're looking for.View more
Must visit when in Montreal! Their kouign-amann is so buttery but not overly sweet. Their apple puff pastries, their pain au chocolat, their croissants (cheese croissants, almond croissants, plain croissants) are all amazing, classic textbook viennoiserie tradition. Their hot chocolate is not overly sweet, which goes very well with a slice of warm kouign-amann on a cold winter day. The place is near Mont-Royal station. It has this lovely vibe of old historic Montreal store in the inside, from the decor to the music they play. There are only two small tables (2-3 chairs per table), but the pastries get sold so steadily that, whenever I visit, the pastries are always warm & fresh of the oven. I've never able to take a picture because I forget everything except eating when I hold their pastries.View more
Been going here for years. Will never stop returning so long as they continue to have those buttery pastries (kouign amann) & fresh delicate croissants.View more
Their speciality is a must try. The other pastries I tasted were very good as well.View more
If you are looking for incredibly authentic french croissant then look no further. So light & buttery & the chocolate inside is rich & high quality. Perfect place for pastries!View more
I wish I lived in Montreal. The pastries are so yummy!View more
We went here twice on a 3 day trip. Don't sleep on the other pastries & coffee. Very friendly, helpful staff too.View more
Lovely little spot to stop at on the way to Mount Royal. Everything is extremely fresh & made with care, the pricing is very good especially considering the high quality of their pastries. Definitely our new favourite spot when visiting Montreal.View more
Very attractive smell when you come to the bakery store. Pastries are good, but basically only for take out. Always packed with customers, most likely no seats.View more
Amazing pastries. The best thing I had was the regular croissant nature. It wasn't too busy on a Tuesday morning when I went but I hear that the lines can be crazy.View more
