At 316 avenue du Mont-Royal Est, we've been loving the kouing-amann for over 30 years.
A true neighborhood café, the owner and employees work together to offer gourmet pastries (made with passion!), fresh sandwiches and the famous kouing-amann.
Let yourself be tempted by a moment of greed in a warm family atmosphere that has lasted for nearly three decades.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A True Montreal Gem - Absolutely Delicious!
Pâtisserie Au Kouing Amann is one of the most memorable bakeries we have ever visited, & it deserves every bit of a 5-star rating. If you love pastries, this place is an absolute must. The moment you walk in, the air is filled with the rich, buttery aroma of freshly baked goods, & you know you're in for something special.
We tried their famous kouign amann, & it was perfection - beautifully caramelized on the outside, flaky & tender inside, with just the right balance of sweetness & butter. It's one of those pastries you remember long after you've finished eating. We also sampled a few other treats, & everything was consistently fresh & full of flavor.
The bakery itself has a cozy, authentic feel, & the staff were warm, welcoming, & happy to help with suggestions. You can tell they take pride in what they make. It's not a huge space, but it feels like a little hidden gem tucked into the heart of Montreal.
This place alone is worth a detour if you're visiting the city. I would come back in a heartbeat & highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates top-quality pastries. Easily one of the best bakery experiences in Canada!View more

Cute little shop
Yummy fresh pastry
Kind staff
Not enough sitting table , I got lucky & scored a hot almond croissant out the oven & a tableView more
Kouign Amann anywhere is the best tasting, richest pastry in any form. Theirs is no exception. Never seen it in this large pie form. Buy a full one to take home. Their heating-up instructions worked great to return it to almost as good as fresh (& DEFINITELY still better than the many stale croissants we kept getting at other shops in Montreal).View more
Awesome place. Very affordable yet delicious fresh pastries. Some of my favorites are the croque monsieur, kouign amann, quiche, & the almond croissant. Definitely will stop by again when I'm in town.View more
First time visitor. Bright & dainty place. Truthfully I didn't order their specialty menu item. I went in for an Americano & a fresh Croissant. The croissant was flaky & just the right amount of chewy. There were only two tables & I felt a bit guilty taking up a table just for myself. So I took off a star just because it seems like a place where you grab & go your order. There is a lot of foot traffic & I over heard a lot of customers say that this was their favourite spot! I would go back & try their Kouign Amann. Next time!View more
Cafe Mocha was great, the baked goods were incredible, all the croissants were light, fluffy, & fresh, will forever be a stop when visiting Montreal. Thank you for a wonderful experience.View more
Cozy little bakery. The smell of butter once you enter is amazing. There is not much seating, & it gets filled up pretty quickly. We had a slice of kouing amann (butter cake), & I heard the angels sing. It was crispy on top but with a soft middle. Very fresh. I have to come back for the croissants &, of course, another slice of the kouing amann.View more
The best crispy, fresh & unbelievable croissant in Montreal by far. My bakery that never missed visiting when in Montreal.View more
It is so buttery & just slightly crackly & so soft & spongey almost custard like interior. EAT FRESH. I miss it so much why do I live in Toronto 😭😭😭View more
An absolute must if you are visiting Montreal! I love that each slice is relatively inexpensive. It's ultra delicious when fresh & hot! Not a place for seating though, so expect to takeaway. Only has 2 tables in the shop & outside is too hot in the summeView more
The almond croissant & kouign-amann were incredibly fresh & delicious! 🥐View more
Must visit when in Montreal! Their kouign-amann is so buttery but not overly sweet. Their apple puff pastries, their pain au chocolat, their croissants (cheese croissants, almond croissants, plain croissants) are all amazing, classic textbook viennoiserie tradition. Their hot chocolate is not overly sweet, which goes very well with a slice of warm kouign-amann on a cold winter day. The place is near Mont-Royal station. It has this lovely vibe of old historic Montreal store in the inside, from the decor to the music they play. There are only two small tables (2-3 chairs per table), but the pastries get sold so steadily that, whenever I visit, the pastries are always warm & fresh of the oven. I've never able to take a picture because I forget everything except eating when I hold their pastries.View more
Been going here for years. Will never stop returning so long as they continue to have those buttery pastries (kouign amann) & fresh delicate croissants.View more
Lovely little spot to stop at on the way to Mount Royal. Everything is extremely fresh & made with care, the pricing is very good especially considering the high quality of their pastries. Definitely our new favourite spot when visiting Montreal.View more
