The Boquerones & Stracciatella at Au Coin in Montreal's Mile End is an absolute masterpiece of a pizza. Served in a cozy, wood-heavy space that shifts from a daytime café to a bustling natural wine bar at night, this dish perfectly balances bold coastal punches with creamy luxury. It all sits on a 100% sourdough crust featuring an airy interior & a distinct, tangy char from the open kitchen's high-heat Italian oven. A generous layer of cold, velvety bufflonne stracciatella acts as a rich canvas for silver-skinned Spanish boquerones, which deliver a clean, vinegar-kissed brine. Dark Taggiasca olives & crispy, golden fried capers burst with texture, while sweet cherry tomatoes & a bright green sorrel pesto sourced fromParcellesprovide a lemony, sour snap that beautifully cuts through the fat. Finished with aromatic oregano, the play between the hot crust, cold cheese, & tender marinated fish makes this a destination-worthy 8.2/10 pie.
It pairs spectacularly with a glass of orange natural wine from their rotating list, though you will want to arrive early to grab a seat on their communal benches since they operate entirely on a no-reservations policy. We also got the tartare, radicchio salad, steak & batavas bravas, all hits as well!
The caesar salad was insanely good, the pizza as well! Nice cozy little spot with good food & coffee but the service was so bad. We were clearly being rushed because of their long lineup & they looked annoyed when we ordered more.
Amazing food & great neighbourhood spot, but expect to be treated like the host is doing you a favour having you wait in line outside the establishment… ordered many of the appetizers & a pizza & pasta dish - all were delicious & I will certainly be going back for the food. Good wine selection as well. They don't take reservations & both times I went the two different hosts were extremely dismissive; they do not greet you as you enter, do not make any effort to have you feel welcomed, you need to try a few times to get their attention to be added to a wait list, & they refuse to provide any indication on wait times. At least they allow you to order a drink while you wait, if you can manage to get their attention.
Our experience at Au Coin was fantastic. Aside for the 30 min wait to be seated ( it was a Saturday night) , everything was excellent. The waiter was very attentive, the cocktails were delicious, they were generous with the alcohol,& the food was superb! I would highly recommend the Ceasar salad. It is dressed perfectly & is very flavourful. The pizzas are delicious, the dough is light. I would definitely return to Au Coin.
Waiting over 1h15 just to get a pizza…. My boyfriend got his plate of pasta & my pizza arrived over 40minutes later. When I mentioned it to the staff they apologized & said it was because everyone has ordered pizza all at once & they were under staffed but definitely not the best experience :(
Discovered this cute place while strolling in the neighborhood. Service was attentive. A great place for light & airy neo-Neapolitan sourdough pizzas.
Quick seating, friendly staff & good music
Food looked great but was disappointing & underwhelming.
Tomato salad was ok.
Tuna crudo had no flavor, lacking salt & citrus. It was dressed with bland tomato juice. Had some spicy chili & green grape over it that didn't pair well in my opinion.
Pizza was undercooked & dough was raw & soggy. We politely let our waiter know.
3rd time there, always poor service. It has potential, good pizza, great terrasse, & interior. But wait for drinks & getting bill is too long. & I don't blame the servers. 2 of them for the entire packed terrasse. Time to hire more staff in order to actually make this an enjoyable dining experience.
