Great terrace in the summer months. Great spit!!
Good food - limited menu, which I appreciate. As an aside: I don't like bananas, cottage cheese, or pancakes, but their banana cottage cheese pancakes were divine.
We went here twice on our trip because the food was so fantastic. The strawberry syrniki (cottage cheese pancakes) were the star of the show. We have never tasted better pancakes. The eggs & salami was also delicious - fluffy eggs, really good challah but the latkes were average. The McArthur sandwich was juicy & really tasty. The roast beef sandwich was very well balanced. We had a couple of drinks, one that stood out was the Bonbon Bleuet (blueberry jam sour). The staff were extremely friendly & also entertained our toddler when they saw him getting fussy.
This is a place I wish I could bring my Grandma Sylvia. She would have absolutely freaked her beak over the most gorgeous platter of lox I've ever seen-beautifully presented & every bit as delicious as it looked.
The thick wedge of challah, rich & tender, felt like something from another era. & the stout cottage cheese pancakes, blanketed in maple syrup, were the kind of dish that makes conversation stop for a moment so everyone at the table can simply appreciate what's happening.
It's a feast in the truest sense of the word-abundant, joyful, & meant to be shared. May they be fruitful & multiply.
I ordered a bagel with lox & cream cheese to take out. service was great friendly & reasonably quick. To my surprise the bagel was not fresh, in a city that has great bagels in every part of town there is no excuse to serve stale bagels. FYI bagel sandwich was $27.00 with a 15% tip.
*EDIT*
After such a positive experience at Arthur's, I made a point to take my mom in her short visit to the city. Unfortunately, we were mostly disappointed by the experience!
The smorgasboard (which I ordered on my first visit) was still amazing. However, the syrniki (cottage cheese pancakes), although tasty, could really use some fruits to make it less heavy. We asked our waitress about this & she said they only add fruits when they're in season… it's mid-May & a quick walk to Atwater Market or even Super C will show you a wide variety of fruits.
Most importantly, however, was the disappointing customer service.
When we asked the waiter who sat us at our table if they had a washroom, he sarcastically said'obviously, we're a restaurant.' Yes, I know you have a washroom, it was a polite way I found to ask a question in a language that isn't my first. It's not a major issue, but it sets the wrong tone for customer service (as someone who's worked in the industry).
Further, the waitress who took care of our table was always rushing us, & it seemed like she avoided eye contact so she wouldn't see us when we asked for something. I was so confused by this, as I received much better service a couple of months ago, on a Sunday, when the restaurant was packed - on my visit with my mom, it was about half full, so not like the waiters needed to run around.
While we enjoyed the food, I was sad that the service was so poor in comparison to my wonderful past experience.

Wow, I'm amazed at how good the food here was! My friend & I shared a smorgasbord (we added avocado, bread, & scrambled eggs to make sure it was filling for both) & were so impressed by how good it was! The scrambled eggs were absolutely divine. Not sure how they managed to make something as simple as scrambled eggs taste as good as it did, but alas!
The space is lovely & well-decorated & the staff were very friendly! The only thing I'll say is that it gets rather crowded, we had to wait a bit over an hour to get a bar seats, so make sure to plan ahead.
As of drinks, we got an iced vanilla latte & a London fog - both were fine, nothing really special. The food truly is the highlight!
Arthur's Nosh Bar is a really good brunch spot in Montreal. What we like most is the cottage cheese pancakes & the fried eggs, everything is super flavorful & well done.
They don't have an espresso machine, but that doesn't bother us since we actually prefer filter coffee.
Overall, it's an excellent spot for breakfast or brunch in the city. Just keep in mind they don't take reservations, so you usually have to wait a bit, especially on weekends.
The cafe vibe is great. The decoration is beautiful.
We ordered The hot chocolate, tense & tastes good.
For the food. We ordered the cottage cheese pancake. First bite, heavenly delicious. Little crispy outside, soft inside. Love it. The egg & salami also amazing.
The mc arthur sandwich (fried chicken sandwich) is ok, personally not that special, a lil bit dry.
Fantastic brunch spot!! The Latke Smorgasbord is a great option to have a little bit of everything. The standout however are the pancakes….i believe they are made with cottage cheese. They were unlike any other pancakes I have had before. Soft, fluffy & slight savoury, a perfect combo with the maple syrup.
